On Exodus I often get my first rmt tell of the day before the zone has even finished loading. If I don't blacklist the teller I'll get another tell from them every few seconds until I DO blacklist them. With 7-8 blacklisted every day I regularly have to clear out older names from the list to avoid a continuous barrage of tells.

I think gill buyers should be bound to rocks with serpents hanging over them constantly dripping venom into their eyes.

I'm still trying to figure out what I actually need Gil for other than repairs. so buying Gil doesn't really make sense in this game to be honest.

I agree with gil being easy to make. I made 1m gil yesterday by crafting and all I'm really spending it on is vanity stuff and melds, which are both fun but not needed. I hate RMT, the constant spam all the time, the bots that ruin other people's enjoyment.

As far as detecting people buying gil, I have seen in the past few days several sales where someone sold something like a piece of wool yarn for 300k. What are these kinds of transactions about? Obvious gilseller/gilbuyer activity if you ask me.

RMT is bad for the game but it wouldn't exist if the game wasn't doing well I suppose, so there's that...

on a budget, but sounds like you had a little in the buget for gold buying from time to time :)

Diablo 3 no longer has an integrated RMT auction house (or any other kind of AH.) It was a poorly conceived idea that failed miserably. Now the loot system has changed so that getting gear upgrades from playing is much more reliable and the game has improved greatly.

I don't understand your logic here. As has been said in a million other posts, SE does everything they reasonably do to handle this. But let's look at the possible other solutions and why they don't work:

1. Ban IP Addresses - You can change this easily client-side.
2. Prevent low-lvls from sending /tells - Not really a solution. Alienates part of the community and only makes it so the tells are not sent, sites still up. Google search "ffxiv buy gil", you don't need a /tell to give you that one.
3. Police the common areas you find RMT - Not reasonable, as this involves people standing by and waiting on server waiting for a suspicious name or activity to pop up. This is a waste of man-hours and would have to me monitored night and day, which is ridiculous to assume of anyone.
4. Immediately respond to any tickets sent - Read above. In addition, they need to make sure the investigation is fairly thorough, otherwise you could be banning innocent players.
5. Make RMT illegal and punishable by law - This would have to have a truly logical, logistic reason to be passed into a law. Also, it would have to be enforced across all countries, otherwise it's infringing upon sovereignty.

So given the above, yes, I believe they are doing "all that they can do" currently aside from ridiculous circumstances. If the RMT problem gets too high, they know people will leave, and that is their incentive to combat it as much as possible. Maybe it's just because I'm on Balmung, as others have pointed out, but I only receive about 0-1 tells per day from RMT. Maybe I'm biased in that regard, but I believe the statement was silly and uncalled-for.

Whilst I don't agree with blocking tells from low levels, as pointed out it will alienate, surely a level one sending 1000s of tells is a bit obvious, so why not introduce a limit so until say level twenty you can only send two tells a minute, I can't see anyone that level needing to send more than that

As much as I hate these blood-sucking, endlessly harassing RMT spammers and the idiotic players too lazy to figure out how to make gil, I do have to admit to one thing:

As a crafter, I am completely dependent on RMT accounts selling shards and keeping prices on them much lower than they would be without these bulk sellers.

Any other crafter worth the title who disagrees is someone I call BS on, unless you yourself are botting shard farming. Which is also against the ToS.

With the opening of the game to China, it seems like these leeches have multiplied by a factor of 5 on my server. I do not understand why SE cannot change the /ignore command to ignore accounts, not characters. Guild Wars 2 does it. The Elder Scrolls Online does it. I am sure that our servers are running background processes to flag reports of harassment and/or abuse -- /ignores should be included. It shouldn't take more than a few (dozen) lines of code to flag any account that receives a certain number of ignores on any server within a certain period of time to be automatically kicked offline and disabled from logging in anywhere, as well as flagging Customer Service to review it immediately (in case a player gets wrongly targeted). With such a system in place, RMT spamming accounts could be disabled within a single spam on a single server, and that problem would be solved.

But yeah, if bulk shard sellers disappeared, crafting would become much more costly. There are always dirty little secrets behind the things we hate.

Yah shards lay solely at SEs feet for the blame, Gil buyers feeds the rmt but then we also have such a tedious way to gather shards so a lot rely on them flooding the MB
SE need to give fisher and alchemy their 1.0 abilities back to make shard gathering easier and then that's a huge chunk of the rmt revenue taken out of the game

Actually, they could go after them for selling their Intellectual property. But there is a reason that they don't do that. And that is because they might lose.
