Wedding service in FFXIV

Call me bitter but if there's no same sex marriage I'd rather have no marriage in the game at all.

I don't want to pay monthly sub in the future for games that support that kind of discrimination and frankly I expect better from Square. The only thing I liked about XIII was the lesbian subtext and I hope it means SE has some sense in their head.

This is a scary topic as I know SE has talked about making marriage an option in the game at some point and as much as I'd love to play this game I'm sure it would be too big of a personal issue for me to get past. It's hard to explain to straighties but can you imagine what it would be like to play a game that banned opposite-sex marriage only. I don't think even that would hold the same implications though.

Reading through this thread has been useful in the way that there's at least one forum user whose name I memorized to skip over all the posts written by him(/her whatever). I also can just say how honestly bad I feel for the possible children those kind of users might already have or have in the future. Gay suicide numbers are through the roof as it is. To have ignorant/hateful parents is probably the most mentally scarring things that can happen to a person and I wouldn't wish it for anyone.

It's kind of amazing that they are trying to bring people from all walks of life together to play on the same servers, but they aren't allowing them to really be themselves or just have fun with same sex marriage. I think they should just look at it as player 1 is married to player 2 regardless of gender if they do decide to implement a marriage system to FFXIV.

Also, I'm not sure if anyone ever did the rank 36 culinarian quest, but it actually has <SPOILER> a cross-dresser as one of the main characters and reveals so in a manner that you almost think they are bisexual or something, but they aren't really, lol. Which at any rate, alongside the miner's guild, sexual humor (some of the way NPCs talk to female gender characters is a bit racey in my opinion), and other sexual references, I don't see why they wouldn't have same sex marriages in the game if they decide to host weddings. To me they tried to make the feel of the world similar to our own. People have opinions, rumors, standards, and practices that are easily reflected in our own lives. I don't think they'd make it gender-specific and limit us that way.

Ookaaayy this is a very complicated and touchy subject. There's a reason it tends to be banned from most forums. It's difficult to state how you feel about it without getting into personal beliefs or potentially insulting someone, which, quite frankly, has been going on throughout the thread, intentional or not. I will honestly TRY not to, but due to the nature of the topic, it might not be possible. In fact, I fully expect to be tried, tortured, and burned at the stake.

There are three reasons to be homosexual that come to mind. The first, as it really isn't that hard to do in this day and age of sex everywhere, you really are that perverted in mind. The second, emotional trama of some sort, most likely from your childhood, maybe more to adolescence. The last, your hormones really are firing abnormally, and you really are attracted to the same sex at a fundamental level. This is what I consider to be a true homosexual, and not just a reaction to circumstances. But what that makes homosexuality, is a disorder, no matter how people try to make it normal.

Wanting to be accepted and loved is certainly understandable, and is something people search for their entire lives. It's in fact, an epidemic in America. An epidemic that I point directly at the sexual promiscuity of today's age, and not just homosexuality. People are being raised without understanding the value and importance of a strong, stable commitment of a husband and wife, to make a strong, stable family haven full of love and support for raising children who in turn, will make their own family, or at least contribute to society.

Instead, sex has become a casual pastime to be practiced with anyone, or sometimes anything. It and it's passionate feelings have been completely mistaken and replaced for love in many cases. Divorce rate is skyrocketed, and illegitmate and single-parent children are norm. That in turn, has helped raise a generation that has never known what real love or stability is. And it's pretty difficult to know what you are missing, when you have never experienced it. Instead, it will likely come out in the form of hate and anger. Or even in the form of searching for it wherever you can find it.

Not that I don't think real love is important in a marriage, but in many societies, including the far reaches of America's background, love had nothing to do with marriage. The purpose of marriage was to ensure the family line. To raise children who in turn would become contributing members of that family's community. If you didn't raise your children properly, you would be looked down upon by your community. This idea is still prevalent in Japan. And it shows. Japan has some of the lowest crime-rates in the world. When the tsunami hit, one thing I noted without surprise, was that I did not see a single looter in any of the news coverage.

What does this have to do with it? Besides demonstrating my beliefs and convictions on the importance of marriage, I believe that the cause of homosexuality, in the case of emotional or psychological issues, is in large part due to the break down of the family, which in turn is caused by the breakdown of marriage. You don't fix something broken by making it broken-er.

The fact is, if men only slept with men, and woman with woman, there would be no human race, pure and simple. Just because your hormones are racing doesn't change this. And nature does fight back when you put it out of balance. In the 50's, there were maybe 5 STDs. Now there are many times that, all caused by sexual activity, including homosexual. Whether or not the aids epidemic was caused by homosexuality, it certainly spread it. The reality of it is, you are taking something and putting it where it doesn't belong, and is designed to pass waste, again pure and simple. Germs don't care what your feelings are. Wearing "protection" doesn't make it normal, or safe.

Now, none of that is "helpful" (highly aware that would be a controversial term) to a true homosexual. I've heard the phrase "I was born in the wrong body", and I would call that accurate. That would have to be a case by case basis, with as much love and support from your families as you can get. By no means, do I think that any homosexual, along with anybody else for any reason, should be beaten, treated rudely, killed, harassed, or any other form of hate crime. Anyone who would do such a thing should be prosecuted.

However, at the same time, I don't believe in giving special treatment to it either, anymore than I agree with many other legal actions for minority groups. The judges in those states performed marriages illegally to begin with, and should have been prosecuted and stripped of their office. There is a reason we have an order of things, and by doing that, they bypassed the law, made the choice for the people, and committed anarchy. A judge with no regard for the law has no right to be judge, no matter his personal feelings. That's what unbiased is.

Now, how does this come into play with SE? You are essentially asking SE to make a political statement. Internationally. Boycotting has already come up from one side. You can rest assured it would come up on another. In a company that is already struggling, this would not be a very good move. Games are a place where we forget our differences, come and have fun. What players do in their own LS, is up to them. No big deal about it. But big gaming companies are wise to steer clear of this issue, and not make a statement one way or another.

For myself personally, I would rather not have to deal with homosexual issues while playing a game that I'm trying to relax and have fun with. Putting my practicality aside and going to my personal feelings, the very thought turns my stomach. If there is constant stomach turning by various players of various personal thoughts on the issue, there's always a chance it won't keep them playing long.

Now, I know you could say, "well maybe hereosexuality turns mine", but the reality is that heterosexuality is the normal way of things. For the sake of humanity, it had better stay that way. I know that sounds mean, but it is the truth.

P.S. getting 'married' isnt special treatment. Its something everyone should have a right to do.

Correct. SE has no obligation to actually give us same-sex marriage between our characters, but if we are really forgetting our differences ,then what do you care if a male character has a marriage with another male character? I see no way in how it could affect you.

Nobody is debating this. But this doesn't really translate to the world in FFXIV. It's just an example, but most of the "problems" that same-sex marriage has on the real world actually don't affect the in-game world. Death of the human race? No reproduction in FFIXV. My religion? Heck, we have 12 gods in XIV. Kids with two dads in preschool? No kids in XIV.

What I'm trying to get is that it shouldn’t affect anyone if same-sex marriage is allowed in the game. Most people wouldn’t even know that those two cat-girls are married. And people who would like to marry a same sex character in-game would be happy to do so.
