This would be a nice addition to unlocking the weapons. As long as the base weapons aren't DMG-1 Delay-999 lol. Also bosses (multiple) go without saying. They should be extremely tough and require full or multiple alliances (assuming we'll be able to alliance in the future.)
Thinking a little more about rare/ex currency, there could be ways to make it work while still being able to buy them. If raids/dungeons has optional bosses in them that sold you a certain amount of currency within the raid I think it could work. Perhaps limit the amount available per purchase, per person, in relation to your progress or speed. Regardless, there definitely has to be another way to get currency than just having it fall into your inventory.
I'd say cut out the monotonous fat (getting exp on the weapon) and just have a long series of really tough boss fights. Just slaying the monster is enough, no dumb random drops required. Actually having cut-scenes playing out some lore behind the weapons would be awesome too.
Or maybe instead of raid exp to upgrade the weapon, do something like Phantasy Star Online's challenge mode. That challenge mode was my single most favorite thing about that game. Basically it would involve special, more challenging versions of raids.
I would just prefer something that is difficult to get, not monotonous. And especially nothing dictated by random chance (currency drops) or the number of hours you can play the game.
Hi Alexia,
I'd like to see something like Relic Weapons (some long-term, goal-driven content) that Players could work towards that would unlock something really rare.
Through normal playtime, I think XI's Relics were a bit too extreme in terms of massive amount of time and gil / currency requirements to complete, maybe ~50% - 75% of those requirements / time might be more feasible. ;)
In regards to Rare/EX and your question / point about that: It would be pretty bad if it didn't drop into the Loot List and went straight to your inventory. Even if you're careful, there are times you might have Full Inventory and you'd lose that Rare Currency. That would be horrible.
There are other times where you or your friends might not want that type of currency, and would rather just give it to a friend / trade with them later. Some might want to go through a dungeon for a different reason and not want the currency itself, but with your system (dropping straight to inventory Rare/EX), it's just wasted / lost on people who might not care for it.
Regardless, it would be good to have some kind of long-term, upgradeable Weapon / Armor goal. :)
I wish they could let me transfer my relics from my XI account...I want mai Mandau, Apoc., and Galjahorn! ; ;
Theres a chance that it could not be random at all but be a standard amount given to all party (eventually multi party) groups involved in the event if its a success. I would prefer this, altered to have a FFXIV spin of course, thats just the barebones idea.
Say there is a RA/EX currency called bologna (just to be silly) and you need 50,000 of it as part of your quest for a relic weapon. There could be two events, 1 a daily that a single party does and if you win you get 30 bologna each. and then there could be a multi party event that occurs 2 times a week max that is much harder/longer, and upon success you could get 70 bologna each. possible extra goals performed mid event could boost it by 5 and 10 respectfully. Bologna goes into your currency item pouch and would be like marks so that you can't give to other people.
you are correct, thats just an example and nothing more, however, I hope you know thats a 143 weeks attending every single event. >.> Not what I would consider easy thats 3 years for a hardcore player lol. Thats why I think it should be balanced however they decide to do it xD
I think Relic Weapons would be an exception to that rule or did you just mean you wouldn't be able to add materia on top of it?
The whole point of them is that they are the Ultimate Weapon for your Job and as such have huge requirements to be fulfilled in order to get one. They have to huge otherwise everyone would have one and then all other weapons would be pointless and as much as everyone would probably want one the reality is that only a small percentage would actually be able to achieve it.
So with that how could they implement them, have a fair system in place to earn one but still meet the requirements of what a Relic Weapon is supposed to be?
