    Relic Weapons?

    I was thinking it would be pretty cool if SE could maybe think about putting Relic Weapons into the game at some point once the Job system is established to establish some form of long term goal for certain players.

    Now I know this will be unpopular but I think they should be extremely difficult to get and take a long time. Yes I know the time sink is unpopular and people will come in stating time does not equal skill but the point of them is that they are rare and not easily attainable. In FFXI I knew I would never get an Apocalypse Scythe for my DRK but every time I saw someone with one or partied with someone who had one I thought it was cool as hell.

    The whole point of a Relic Weapon is that they are that Jobs Ultimate Weapon and as such have HUGE requirements to earn one. The requirements have to be huge otherwise everyone would have one and then it would make all other weapons pointless and as much as everybody would probably want one, the reality is that only a small percentage would actually get one.

    So with that how could they implement them, have a fair system in place to earn one but still meet the requirements of what a Relic Weapon is supposed to be?

    Firstly they should start off with a tough dungeon maybe Nyzul Isle style so you can make little bit of progress towards earning your Base Relic relatively easily. Now this time around the Base Relic would actually be a good and worthy weapon for completing a Dungeon, no 1 DMG and 999 Delay here, however this is not it's final form.

    Now we need to come up with some way to upgrade it to it's final form that is going to require a huge amount of effort so much so that it will take a long time to earn and keep the Final Form version rare.

    I still think some form of rare/ex currency (like guild marks but not guild marks) should be used here to purchase this upgrade. It would have to be enough though to keep this upgrade rare but they should not limit they source of this currency to a single dungeon. You should have multiple ways to acquire it so you do not have to keep repeating the same thing over and over but needs to still be a challenge. Also it should require drops from tough boss fights. The Relic could have 3-4 stages before it reaches it's final form so it could use a variety of ways to upgrade each stage differently.

    This isn't about me wanting a weapon that hardly anyone has as it will most likely be the same situation as FFXI and I just won't have the time or resources to get one but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want them in the game as again I still think it would be cool to see someone with a rare kickass weapon.

    I do hope they add this, and I do not want it to be some joke to get like weapons in abysea.

    They where the ultimate goal for hardcore players in XI, and gives those who can play for 40-50hrs a week occupied for along long time. Where otherwise they would be done in months.

    AF gear is what really drew me into FF XI when i first started playing, and i would love to see it in FF XIV eventually.

    I cant imagine why it wouldn't be implement in some way, shape, or form.

    a long term hard to get weapon goal may not be horrible, but relic implementation is, the only way to get a relic weapon was to exploit as many other people as possible. getting a relic weapon was more about how many people you had in your power than skill, challenge, patience or even time sinkness. If you had enough money you could get a relic weapon in a couple weeks.

    That is a fair enough statement and that is the reason I knew I would never get one as I just couldn't do that to people or raise that kind of Gil in FFXI. So lets bounce some idea's and come up with a way that doesn't involve exploiting people, will be a long term goal and keep the weapon rare so it does not become common place.

    *Edit*

    What if you could not trade or sell the Currency? That would stop people exploiting others would it not as whoever it dropped to got it and then if you were lucky enough to get something like a 100 note in FFXI you would be very happy.

    I agree with Alexia. The Idea of a goal to work for is a great idea. look at how many people went and took on the NM's at release for the gear that they dropped. My server was full of it... not any more because everyone has them, but that's beside the point :P

    I hope this never happens unless the only limitation is time investment. I don't mind spending time to earn a cool weapon. I however do mind having to get involved in player run pyramid schemes and/or having to own a bottomless coin purse to do so.

    I agree with you fully that this idea should be implemented and I'm sure they will. The only issue I think would arise would be how to put stats on them. Since you can do multiple roles on a class. Like DD or tank on MRD, and then with jobs coming that will bring their own flavor. But I mean they could easily make two axes, or an axe for each job that gets put MRD. So once they figure out how to divide them up by the stats that will go on them, I totally support this idea.

    I would love it if they went the way of nyzul mythic weapons and on top of that left out the currency. Weapons that are obtainable through many quests/achievements are fine with me, but I hate dealing with the gil aspect.
