60 Minute Time Limit on New Dungeons

Limitations are everywhere. You can't change class in WoW. You can't talk to opposing faction. You can only level one profession. And the list goes on.

Limitations make a game. XIV classes have no limitations on cross-class skill use. And it makes the system suck. Without anything limiting you, there's no game to be had.

How does having a time limit going against having to coordinate and strategize? In fact I think it enforces it, especially if it's difficult content! Think about it, if your party has only 60 mins to complete a dungeon, wouldn't you try to have a plan before hand? Also having non-timed dungeons wouldn't keep people from rushing through.

If I'm ever going to go on a long winded rant this is it:

Remember how it was entirely up to you to plan and execute how to do anything in XI? yeah well those days are gone. SE is going to hold your hand through this entire thing making sure that the experience is exactly the same on every playthrough.

I don't know if this is common knowledge but at least everybody in the game industry seems to understand that basing the challenge around a time-limit is possible the laziest way to do game design for anything else than speed-based games.

Honestly given the way they "fixed" the need to jump or the scale of the enemies. I should have seen this one coming.

I feel really dumb for once again hoping to be pleasantly surprised by SE it's all my fault really since they've cut every single corner so far in their patches why was I so irrational to think this patch would be any different?

I can't even tell if that new piece of gear is new or just a palette swap, that's how same-y they look to me.

I hope in some way I could let SE know how deeply this latest project has hurt me because after playing XI I was expecting so much out of it. I've payed hundreds of euros for SE and Squaresoft games and seeing how they've broken their promises on "these changes will be coming soon"-letters ... it kills me.

ugh... I've never felt this way about a game before it's like watching your close relative become an alcoholic and there's nothing you can do about it.

I'm not just angry I feel genuinely hurt by the way SE has let us all down.

I totally hope that you are right with this. Honestly, I did not even take this into consideration when making this post. As the first dungeons bieng released, I would have preferred them to be in the Promy Dem, Mea, and Holla style where you can take as long as you want clearing the various floors and have a timed boss at the end. If indeed, you are able to unlock more time as you make your way through the dungeon, this will still be good in my opinion.

Dynamis was a similar mechanism. A fixed time limit that could be extended by meeting certain preconditions.
A very good system that rewarded efficiency, coordination and strategy.
