At this point, anyone still playing the game is a beta tester.

The op seems to be more sarcastic then optimistic but as someone who hasn't played the game yet and can only go by what I've seen in lets plays and watching the forums I know I'm going to love this game and even if people don't think it's good now I think I like it and really no one can persuade me otherwise.
Why so negative and hurtful to people Betelgeuzah? I usually agree with your opinions, but not here.
Screw Parlay!!!! I want a card collecting and playing system! FF8 was cool because you could turn monsters into card, and could turn cards into items, that was my favorite part about that game.
I forgot to mention parlay. I like it, but getting back what I put in isn't much of an incentive to play. I would like to see better rewards. Getting some actual information or lore would be really cool.
The only thing I'm pessimistic about is the community at least as the forums show.
I find your Sig strangely ironic based on your posts in this thread.
I think as FFXIV is undergoing this transformation it would be in SE's best interest to keep the current player base happy, are we there target audience no not really all the people who already left and the people who never played it are BUT that doesn't mean they should ignore us. Chances are if they change things and the feed back they get from the current players is positive then it will be well received by new players as well.
Also they should definitely keep the servers up as we all know of the problems they are having with server load. Lets say that SE takes it offline and does manage to create the ultimate FF MMO they fire the servers back up and oh dear they can't handle the potential millions of people trying to play, that would be a disaster. So yes they should keep the servers up so they can work out the kinks or invest in new tech to handle it and what better way to test it than through us. Is there enough of us currently playing to full test their servers, probably not but if they are already having problems with the Market Wards imagine if a huge influx of players joined, what problems would that create. At least now they are aware of these problems and can be working on solutions.
It is a sad fact that we must all admit we are currently playing a glorified beta, however we need to utilise this chance to help SE design and build the best game they possibly can. If something is good we should tell them, if it is bad then we should also tell them. I am not saying they should follow our every whim but amongst all of the feedback given there could be that one little gem, that one idea could really help them to build a better game.
I decided to stop playing the game last November because... Well, because it was terrible.
A month ago I randomly thought I would login and give it another try to see what changes they had made. I have been impressed with them. The small things that have largely streamlined gameplay have made an enormous difference and made things much easier to play. Some of the major changes, on the other hand, make enormous, fundemental changes that, for the most part, have greatly improved my enjoyment of the game.
Without these changes, I would definitely have stopped playing again. I am having fun and enjoying myself, which is the most important part of any game. Because of this, I'm optimistic. I think this game is going in the right direction and, in my opinion, we should be looking forward to what's coming.
The only comparison I have ever drawn between 14 and 11 is the fact 11 started slowly as well. They had several key elements that were, for lack of a better expression, a train wreck. Like with 14, they were addressed and the game improved as well as the playerbase. I am very excited for the future of this game and feel certain it will become the fantastic game we all wish it was now.
If you find you are one of the people who has nothing but bad things to say about this game and continuously preach how terrible it really is, perhaps it's time you took a step back and asked yourself why you're still playing it? You have the choice to stop, much like I did, if you don't enjoy it. Nobody is making you play it, and by doing so you only conceed it has a future you want to be a part of at some point. Otherwise, why bother playing?
If you really don't like it that much, just stop playing. The game will live without you, I'm sure.
