I don't get where you are getting your jobs ranked for what they were intended for because I don't know about you, but I can't read developer's minds, but I think it's well agreed that summoner and monks excelled at single target dps, where as black mages and dragoons excelled at burst where as bards were ranged with support capabilities. If anything, the thunder change (since it's global and not summoner specific) is based off of lack of AoE in the other caster classes, which is fairly idiotic since most of said complaints were cuz FATE's.

These are not correct. Monks effectively start with a -40% damage debuff (dragon kick, twin snakes, greased lightning x 3), they will be the worst ST dps on fights less than 30 seconds long unless they use PB. Bards have really high single target burst (if they burn barrage, they are undoubtedly the highest single target burst) due to multiple off-global attacks and a lot of cooldowns.

Bards are also substantially better than BLM at cleave fights (Wind Bite/Venomous Bite on all targets, Flame Arrow under them, no cooldown Blood Letter/Heavy Shot spam). Summoners are pretty high because of Contagion + Bane, but losing Thunder will hurt them in this category, not sure by how much.

Mnks are by far the lowest dps job in the under 30 seconds range... that includes anything that resets GL and even PB won't do much to fix it. It takes 5 attacks with PB just to get up to full dps power for mnks... even if each attack only took 2 seconds that is 10 seconds of being low dps. Long term 10 sec is nothing... short term 10 secs is life or death.

My monk has more i90 than my drg and I have +1 for mnk. I farm on drg because the burst is so much higher.

Let's get one thing straight here.

For AoE once you hit 4 mobs+ it's BLM>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> everyone else

Just an Average Flare in WP doing 17,626 DMG, with convert x2 so roughly 35,252 DMG in 3 secs. Not including the Fire II>> Bliz 2 rotations and back to Flare outside of that.

Hence why they are AoE kings.

/clap, first person I agreed with yet although I think blm will still show a clear advantage over dragoon ofc with bard being pretty close to dragoon with BiS even after nerf (especially if in the same party). Melee lose too much dps in real situations usually and I don't think drg is fixed till heavy thrust is integrated into one of their skills in the combo rotations.

While I agree that the Monk buffs may have been excessive, you can't deny that a Monk's DPS completely plummets if the boss isn't attackable for 13~ seconds. Considering Monks need quite a bit of time to get back up to full power, if you consider most Primals (for example) become unable to be attacked multiple times throughout the fight, it balances out.

ST burst: DRG>BLM>BRD>MNK>SMN
Cleave: SMN>BRD=BLM>MNK>DRG
AOE: BLM>DRG>SMN=BRD>MNK

Why are monks better than smn on burst?

SMN have a ramp up time of 6-10 seconds. This is actually shorter than DRG, who don't reach rough avg dps until after the first TTT.

Monks have a ramp up of about 45 seconds w/o PB.

Why are any TP users higher than MP users for AoE?

We can AoE for quite a while (even SMN), while TP users run dry after about 7 or 8 uses.

Do people really base what job they play as based off of "rankings?"
