I'm grinding Temple of Qarn a bit to level AST. This was my tank for the last run.

Yes, those are level 1 accessories.

I dunno, if you're with a group of friends... maybe... don't be a jerk just because you can't get vote-kicked? Being a decent human being is hard sometimes, I know. I've struggled too. But it's totally possible!
I was BLM, ilvl 333 in Aetherochemical Hard. This tank had near 6k HP and Savage gear. I joined 5 min in progress and they take forever to get started, pull wall to wall (okay!) and didn't take aggro from me once I started Fire II casting when he stopped (bad!) then blamed me for taking too much damage... okay? I could do better about dodging the Dragon's Voice from the Chimeras, but I took way more damage from the big minotaur wailing on my face.
I will be the first person to admit I am not a good BLM. If you lose aggro to me with that much ilvl over me you aren't even trying. He literally stood there to let me die on the first boss as well. I used Quelling Strikes and everything, he just wasn't attacking. The other BLM died first since they got aggro and the SCH couldn't keep up. I'm not sure why they were okay with that, but hey whatever floats their boat. He let me keep whatever I aggroed on the trash pulls too, even though I was only casting Fire II and Flare and using Quelling Strikes again. We got to the second boss and predictably, my vote dismiss attempt fails. So I said goodbye and left. No penalty since I joined in-progress but I'm just too tired to bother again tonight.
I didn't report it because it felt like, what's the point. This guy's being an ***hole and the chat history won't show much other than him being a vanilla jerk. He even said "GMs will deal with ur chat history". So this guy has probably done this before and simply gives zero ****s, and his friends are totally ok with it too. Probably having a laugh riot in Discord knowing that whether or not I reported them he'd get off scott free.
Sorry to the other DPS that inevitably replaced me, hope you didn't have too hard of a time with them.
Yeah truth be told I don't think it's worth worrying about right side gear (or any stats besides Defense and Weapon Damage) until level 40 at the absolute earliest but more likely level 50. It's like complaining about people wearing 340 gear when they "could" (theoretically) be in 370 gear, in Hell's Lid. If it's not enough to make or break the content then don't worry about it.
Solo-healing Sephirot Ex and get killed to nobody picking up my tether. I get res'd pretty quick but even though there's 4 red mages in the party nobody gives me a mana shift and I can't get my mp back up fast enough to heal through all the room wide aoes. I just feel like

A somewhat funny thing that happened today. I decided to run Rabanasty on Bard because I needed coins. Take the jump pad into Mateus. Right click Mateus' healthbar to focus target him. Misclick and accidentally auto attack. Pull him before like half the raid is inside. Lord I felt so bad.
Do SA first time as new healer, tank stays in deliverance dropping aggro, first is ok, second nobody kills green slime, I try, get blame. Only stacked for red if not on me. Last boss melee stands in the comet without moving it at all after tank dropped aggro once already. Dies and immediately demands revive while I'm trying to heal comets. I revive dps, only one attacks wings then just a silent finish and immediate leave. Could barely dps because everyone's health was always dropping so fast even with regens. I like how cute healer skills looks but not the anxiety.
Queued on my Ninja with a tank buddy for 50/60 and got Tam Tara Hard. We’re both mentors, and we get paired with a Scholar and another Ninja, both mentors as well. Friend pulls everything to the wall, aaaaand we wipe. Okay, we pull small pulls, then. I get to see more clearly that the other ninja isn’t doing anything but his basic 1-2-3 and Raiton, did a couple of Doton, but basically that was it. The scholar never threw anything other than Bio for attack spells, and spent most of the run healing. The scholar, she had the Padjali Protector title. The NIN was 67 and even upped the cringe with a huge limit break chat macro. I need a shower.
Decided to get back to working on an alt's story progress due to still being very close to SB. Unlocked Baelsar's Wall, and sat in queue for about 15 minutes or so (which completely confused me since healer and all). Eventually got a 42 minute in prog pop. Warning bells sounded, but I wanted to get the dungeon done and over with, and I've ran similar that turned around so fast, so joined in.
I should have listened to the warning bells. The group was at the end, and we wiped so many times. Tank eventually dropped because he was going on about his hp being horrible (which, to be honest, it was due to them wearing mostly AF2 gear). 20 minutes remained of this run after about 5+ wipes. I'm honestly surprised we even got a tank to fill in.
It was probably the worst Wall run I have ever healed, let alone run. I was half tempted to just leave after the first few wipes, but I decided against it because I wanted my clear. I have now learned to listen to the warning bells.
Interesting this is coming from you. HQ left is what is important for that level, the fact you are seeing this shows they care.
The gear for body is level 35, heavy steel armor, unnable to quip head. same with the legs, level 35 unable equip feet.
For right, like earnings, looking by MB(I do not know what drops be best) I see a +3 strength and 4 DH that could be useful improvement but in general the right is flat out bad for a while. It only starts to really matter at 50. (neck you need level 36 for +3 stat) brace is the same as neck, +1 all stats is nice still for that level, novice ring is BIS, then there is a +3 stat ring for level 29
It is rare to see someone care that much at that level, next time you try out someone, try a bit better to know what you are talking about.
agreed, that is very petty for that level. Though your comparison is a bit off. It would be like having full 370 left (since left is shown to be max here) while complaining about having 300-320 right. (I'd admit I would find it a bit weird, but nothing worth commenting on outside making conversation)
LotA still wiping raids in 2018! Just got out of one run where: Alliance A first didn't have 4 on pad for Atomos, and then in Phleggy fight none of them ran back to their pad for Ancient Flare. Whole raid wiped.
Idk, I'd at least expect some people who knew what to do to be in one alliance but I guess not...
The nitpickery about accessories during the levelling stages is giving me some serious FFXI vibes.
That tank's actually rather decent, considering alot of the ones i bother to check are wearing nq outlevelled dps lefts.
Ran into an Archer (not Bard) in Doma castle. Apparently there was a mishap with glamour, weapon swapping and gear set malfunctions. They didn't realise they had queued without their soulstone and didn't want to requeue at the time the DF popped. I didn't particular mind nor am I particularly salty about it. Just thought it was a funny story to share.
Did Trial Roulette and got Titan hard.
I'm thinking, ok, old easy one.
I was a little annoyed cause the other AST went noct sect, and I hate having to go Diurnal, but whatever it'll be quick and easy.
The first person to die is the other healer. They just stand on the edge and fall off. So I'm there solo healing in Diurnal which I hate.
Then it looks like three of the dps just jump off. Like they were giving up. Which is also a big annoyance to me.
Whatever. I heal through it, easily, and leave with five comms.
I'm still annoyed though.
At least you got coms. Someone I talked to though discord was complaining how she was on RDM for O8N, a lot of people kept dying to the mechanics, Kept needing to raise both healers (or least one to raise the other) and would routinely raise others on top of that because healers had no mp from dying over and over themselves. Someone "D/C" (she suspects it was forced due to happening to the first near wipe)
They got of 2- level 2 LB and one, LB level 1, and thanks to her carrying, something that should have been a wipe at least twice, ended up being completed in 14 minutes, one com.
Getting comms in any of the newer 8man raids just doesn't happen. I've healed S7N and had coheals that just die to everything, raise them and keep everyone else up by myself, leave and don't even get a single com. Multiple times I've had this happen.
People get salty and ungrateful in those raids.
That's the RDM life for you. Work quietly while you heal and raise and go unnoticed because people rarely look at the names when sending comms, they just look for the blue or green tank/healer icon. I'm guilty of doing it too.
If I'm playing DPS in a hectic battle, I'm very unlikely to be keeping track of who is doing what. Unless I get a direct raise from the red mage, I probably won't notice getting cures or whether they're raising other players.
And yes, I'll most likely commend one of the healers or the tank, unless they were noticably not playing well, or one of the DPS did something outstanding.
I see, well she basically said she has no wishes to play with ungrateful people, and just put everyone that was on the same server on blacklist as it appeared they were in a pre form group, since some left right away, reflecting they got the weekly drop and just there to help someone. Doing that much to carry muti-wipe group for 14 mins and only 1 com? can you blame her?
You would not notice the healers repeatedly dying? or having 3-5 dead at times?
=/
Got Thornmarch in trials roulette as SCH. Cohealer is a sprout AST that goes directly into nocturnal sect. I ask them, “Why would you choose Nocturnal sect?” They reply “Other healer has regens so mitigation is nice :P” So I correct them, SCH has shields and always choose diurnal if they get paired with a SCH. They didn’t say anything after that.
One tank kept saying it doesn’t matter, it’s not savage, it’s no big deal. I mean, no, it doesn’t mean life or death but it does matter if you care about the enjoyment of others you get matched with.
I don’t really know where I’m going with this, just a “wtf” moment I had.
Was doing 50/60 roulette and got Sohr Khai last night as PLD and had a newbie WHM in the party. Before i even got to the first mob pull I told her to please not cast Regen on me before pulls. She says okay. One of the DPS was like "it's not gonna matter". I was like "it does matter" and he shut up immediately for the rest of the run. I hate when people encourage others to be bad cause then the newbies would think it's okay, when it's not.
Anyway, constantly throughout the dungeon, the WHM kept ignoring my advice to not regen me before pulls despite me telling her at the start to NOT regen me before pulls.
She does so anyway, constantly forcing me to untick it each time, which wasted more time. It got to a point here after ignoring my advice a lot, I was tempted to just leave regen on, not grab the mobs and let her get insta-aggro via the regen. I kinda wanted to do that to get my point across...but I'm too nice of a person and that would've just wasted more time and I just want to get the heck out of the instance asap so I wouldnt have to pty with them again.
Sadly, you can't Esuna the "Stupid" status aliment in this game. Patience got me though that instance, but tbh, I really wanted the healer and the dps who encouraged her to be bad to die (not irl, in the dungeon). I know, it's horrible but sometimes when you deal with a lot of arsehats in DF....yeah.
I have more stuff to share but I'll wait til next time. ttyl.
Why do people keep falling back on this "It doesn't matter it's not savage" excuse. It's a piss poor one. It DOES matter as the shield between SCH and Astro will overwrite one another. Maybe people that keep using the "It doesn't matter blahblah" excuses need to learn about the jobs they are saying that about. >>
Ran Temple of Fist as BLM on two separate occasions. Both runs were largely uneventful until the last boss. The healers would not go furthest range when the boss cast Spirit Wave causing me to leave my already set up Ley Lines. At one point I set myself as close to melee range but the healer would just go under the boss and the wind stuck to me again. It makes my BLM heart cries :/
This is a bit generalized, apologies.
I've not enjoyed expert or sigma at all this patch for a, somehow, common reason. I'm noticing if I tend to queue into content alone, it's not fun. Most of the time it feels like nobody knows what they're doing. I'm having enough cases of things like BLM's sprinting into the boss laser in O7. Ya, not standing still, but SPRINTING into it. I'm getting dps that refuse to aoe, and when I ask, harass me for it. I'm in a state again when I don't want to play any of the tanks because of randoms.
When I seem to go with at least one other person, maybe a friend or an fc member, these issues seem to suddenly go away. things'll die super fast, nobody is dying, and fun is being had. Alone it feels like the opposite though. D:
I dunno if another break is going to help me either. I'm in a static, and I have a house now, so I risk both taking a break, and I already took a month long one back in 4.1 for the same reason (With like... what a 50 page thread of me going crazy?) I enjoy the game, but for some reason, just people I get stuck with in duty finder drive me to the point where WoW looks like a 5 star restaurant in comparison.
Also ya this. My patience, as can probably be told, isn't existing anymore. So when an AST does that I go the extra mile and desummon the fairy.
I mean, doesn't matter it's not savage, right?
Have you ever seen "It doesn't matter it's not savage" where the person saying it dies immediately after that leads to a wipe a few seconds after that? I wish I could been there, same RDM in question saw such a thing on O5N (that is the train one right?) was going nuts about how they where almost dying laughing at the irony.
*I was watching south park lately*
in cartman words:
"weak"
and
"Screw you guys, I am going home"
I very much understand this sentiment. I actually made a thread about how I felt having a competent group of friends with whom I do most content is kind of ruining pugs for me.
Healers in particular this tier have been kinda poop in Sigma normal. Not even caring about dps - there have been so many times I've died to unavoidable damage in o7 and o5 specifically that I just won't run them solo anymore as a dps. Either I heal or a friend does.
You're on Aether, if you ever need an expert roulette buddy or someone to do your sigma normal clears with feel free to add me on discord. moromurasaki#5719
Really? Sometimes I'm not paying attention right off or the tank just runs and pulls and I don't have time to switch or adjust to the other healer. Sch pretty much only has the two heals with shields (just like AST). The rest are all standard. I know its more of a courtesy but as long as people are getting healed then does it really matter? Especially when the other healer almost always does straight DPS if they see the other person Main Healing. I understand it's annoying but I don't know. I'm just used to going with the flow I guess.
Sunken temple of Qarn (nm): me as DRK, my BRD gf, a random RDM (sprout) and a random WHM (also a sprout but in level 60 gear)... RDM didn't understand any of the mechanics, didn't dodge anything and would early pull bosses... WHM couldn't keep up healing me and the RDM and couldn't seem to res anyone... when I suggested using swiftcast to raise the RDM, The WHM had never heard of it... at 60+ they never knew swiftcast existed... after one more wipe to the 2nd boss (4th wipe there after 3 wipes to first) the RDM and WHM both bail... we get a new dps and healer and not one problem the rest of the run.... I'm assuming they used jump potions or something... so clueless...
Re: AST sects; I try to recall which is which but I avoid AST anyway. It can be a mistake not just laziness or disregard.
Re: No patience; I get frustration, but I'd rather eat a penalty than punish a group because of one person.
Re: My own recent experiences; I decided to try something other than healer since playing the role can be fun but also send me on long breaks from the game. Previously I leveled all fighting classes to at least 15, and I was having fun with Windwalker Monk in WoW, so I tried Pugilist beyond lvl 15. It's been fun, even though I'm actually finally trying to learn to use my gaming mouse.
But whoa, it's been an eye opener to see the disparity in healing. I feel bad for sprout healers, especially if they are new to the game. I mean, you got that water ball spell, you must be expected to use Fluid Aura, right? I felt particularly bad for a sprout in one of the lowest level dungeons who 1) didn't heal the tank, 2) didn't rez the tank, 3) started pulling stuff as the tank lay dead, 4) knocked things away with FA after the tank pulled them, (repeat). I wish I could have typed faster...
And lol @ new tanks who spin bosses like a top. Not even mad, just laughing as I try to time it so I can still hit positionals.
It should work like this:
WHM/WHM - Regen/Medica II can stack
WHM/SCH - Regen/Galvanize stack
WHM/AST - AST should pick Nocturnal to take advantage of stacking
SCH/SCH - Galvanize does not stack, ideally pick different faeries, but it doesn't nerf your toolkit if you have the same one in quite the same way as AST does.
SCH/AST - AST should always pick Diurnal. AST and SCH will overwrite each other's shields.
AST/AST - One picks Dirunal, the other picks Nocturnal. Any other option results in overwriting the other AST's effect instead of stacking it.
Overwriting the shields just makes them less effective because their potency relies on how much damage is healed by the underlying Adloquium/Aspected Benefic, so AST's Aspected Benefic creates a weaker shield than Adloqium, but Helios/Succor produce the same weaker shields. So overwriting Adloqium with Aspected Benefic, or spamming Helios/Succor erases the previous stronger shield. Hence avoid that situation entirely when possible. If you see Galvanize is up, and aren't using it strategically, don't overwrite it.
Scholar's Adloquium
Versus AST's Aspected BeneficQuote:
Restores target's HP.
Cure Potency: 300
Additional Effect: Erects a magicked barrier which nullifies damage equaling the amount of HP restored. When critical HP is restored, damage nullification is doubled.
Duration: 30s
Effect cannot be stacked with Nocturnal Sect.
Both Succor and Nocturnal Aspected Helios shields are 150%, and both have a cure potency of 150Quote:
Restores target's HP.
Cure Potency: 200
Diurnal Sect Effect: Regen
Cure Potency: 140
Duration: 18s
Effect cannot be stacked.
Nocturnal Sect Effect: Erects a magicked barrier which nullifies damage equaling 250% the amount of HP restored
Duration: 30s
Effect cannot be stacked with Adloquium.
It matters because you waste MP, and if you're going to do that, you may as well DPS instead.
That's what PoTD teaches people. Zerg things.
Not quite true. Without a Crit, Noct Ast Benefic is actually a stronger shield that Adloquium, but as a Crit, Adlo is better. Either way, still shouldn't be going Noct with a SCH, just wanted to correct an error.
Using direct potency, Non-crit SCH shield is a 300 potency heal and a 300 potency shield. Non-crit Noct Ast Benefic is a 200 heal with 450 shield (I think I have that math right. It was one of those ASt changes that made people wonder if SE forgot that SCH had the shields. Also ignoring the healing bonus from Noct Sect, but bleh on that math.)
Assuming you're a BLM main, based on your card, let me give a small example. And yes at first it's not going to make sense.
Imagine someone telling you in a party you aren't allowed to cast Fire IV. At all. If you cast it you're removed. You wouldn't just go along with it, right? Because that's stupid, that's part of your kit and you should be using it, right?
That's how SCH's feel every time an ast goes noct. You're basically telling the sch they aren't allowed to use part of their kit.
I feel like people understate how hard/demanding a DPS life actually is. So many people praise/kiss up to tanks and healers it blows my mind at times. I'm not talking about anyone here.. just what I notice overall. I been in parties where DPS get shit on and at the same time horrible tanks that think this is sonic the hedgehog doing spin dashes get pats on the head. Meanwhile you're just a little below 5k or whatever and you're kicked, shamed, bullied, and everything under the sun as a DPS. I know that can be different for everyone as I've seen the statement DPS gets away with not aoeing, being bad and what have you. But it just seems like we DPS get the short end of the stick. We have to work so hard to even be noticed while a normal - not even good- tank or healer gets all the hugs for just doing their job.
This isn't about anything I'm just venting from what I've seen. Maybe thats why so many people use DPS meters cause without them ALOT of DPS wouldn't be noticed for good OR bad. But I'll end this with a question. Why is that? I'm only seeing part of it cause I'm a DPS? I know people say - healing and tanking is more work- but I think it's all the same. no role works harder than another one.. we ALL have to do our part to kick butt. but maybe I'm just only seeing it this way cause ... I'm a monk.
I also stopped doing main scenario roulette. I think their solution is very dumb. Punish all the devoted players because a few noobs complained. Why did they not come up with a better solution? Like have the option to join skippable or non-skippable? It was very good xp for over 60 characters but I did it once and wont do it again after the chnage.
