Nope, the restriction is on the gear itself.

Almost positive that the melds in pvp gear only work in pvp. These melds do nothing in PvE to my knowledge. PvP gear also dedicates a secondary stat to morale, which also useless in PvE. So i100 PvP gear is explicitly weaker than i100 weathered gear in all cases for anything outside of PvP.
PVP gear has this in its tooltip:
Cannot equip if PvP rank is below 22. Materia effects active during PvP only.
This is for i90 Direwolf Thighboots of Healing, which some Scholars consider BiS for 2.1, only because it's the only i90 healing boots in the game which has Crit as its secondary stat. Doesn't say that it's limited specifically to PVP materia.
I see more "elitists" worried about threats to their special snowflakeness than anyone explicitly asking for handouts. But you see what you want to see.
Coil has explicit organizational challenges due to the lockout. This doesn't have anything to do with difficulty. However, the difficulty does exacerbate those organizational challenges because you not only have to find people that play when you do, aren't playing with anyone else in coil, but also have a minimum level of gear and have the skill level to have a good chance at clearing that content. Some people choose not to deal with that. It is VERY possible for people to want to have access to similar levels of gear, that is also challenging to obtain, without having to go through the hassle of doing coil on a regular basis.
There are ALSO (the OP for instance) who do coil, then get done with coil and want ways (or more ways) to improve their gear during the times they're not in coil. Because they may have times when they're available to play when the rest of their static is not available.
And there even are those who think that limiting the gear separation between those who are doing coil, and those who are not doing coil may be a good thing for the game and are discussing that. 2.0 set a precedent where everybody had access to high level gear regardless of whether they wanted to raid consistently or not. This did have some benefits to the game. There was still some discrimination outside of coil that was based on whether or not you knew fights and had cleared it(which is understandable), but the gear based elitism was largely reduced or eliminated. It also allowed coil groups a much easier time finding subs if a member was out for the week, because they had a greater pool of geared players to pull from. And yes, while these particular concerns do involve giving people easier access to better gear, it's not about "they have it, I want it" which is what you seem to imply is the motivation for the majority of the people in this thread.
And even for the poor saps that ARE envious of your gear. It's no more sad than how butt hurt you are that nobody has the proper respect for your accomplishments in game. I suppose that goes hand in hand with your inability to separate the game from real life.
Seriously?
You reading and comprehension skills are deplorable.
I'm going to revisit this topic because of all the desire for another set of difficult content that isn't coil or lol trial. Again I'm all for this I would love to see multiple avenues to gain comperable gear. But the tradeoff is for more content to be developed for any given patch means more time needed in between patches. So personally I just don't see this much of a possibility so long as SE keeps up with there current design plan of coil - CT - coil - CT. Well at least not until the first expansion. Please look forward to it.
PS: WTB new class/job no later than 2.4 please. *begs*
Pretty much this. The noise coming out of that camp is far louder than anyone crying for entitlement, if they even exist in this thread. I don't see anyone moaning for easier i110, all I see is people who are being accused of it. The general discussion about alternate content was quite constructive until it got de-railed into a class war by someone who thinks he's better than everyone else.Quote:
