First time running a dungeon as the tank, dps keeps pulling, I tell them I need to recharge my tp and to wait.

They say they don't care and it's not their job to care since they're dps and their job is easy.

Needless to say I left when they pulled a boss.

A4, me SCH, we wiped a couple of times before tank became insulting towards both healers because we couldnt heal HER. So after a couple of insults and me being who I am I had to tell her a few truth and to a couple of dps too.

Me and the other healer had to eat ALL the bubbles that were heading our ways or collect them on their way and of course heal ourselves thus meaning less Healing for them even with Eos on obey was impossible, none of the dps did bother. DPS had two / three rays none bothered to remove and they died by *overcharge* despite us trying to keep them alive. With full force EOS I couldnt keep the MT alive, meanwhile keeping myself up due to healer debuff and ordering Eos to go and heal the tank, because well she was taking wayyyyyy too much damages. DPS came close to us healers when having debuff on and died. All of this of course the fault of both healers.

After all this and a few wipes, the only answer of the tank was *deal with it in A4S is worse*..frankly who cares of A4S, if I wanted that I would have gone there. I told the tank that surely it would be easier to keep them alive if instead of thinking to A4S, they would just think of A4 and do what is supposed to be done, so that healers can get to heal and not play DPS while having to heal themselves vs Healing the party.

We, both healers, got kicked for not bowing to her majesty and vassals, cant say I am sad about that.

I'm new to FFXIV (account was from beta, hence the creation date). My wife is rolling heals and I am running as a tank, as usual.

We've done up the the Toto-Rak dungeon and have had WONDERFUL experiences with the other 2 PUG members.

I have a macro I think when I first enter the dungeon saying that "Heals and Tank are new to the dungeon, please bare with us and give us any constructive criticism you can think of!"

We've made quite a few friends over the last couple weeks (we play pretty casual but run at least one dungeon a night), and become better players for it. So far the community we've had has been very helpful and competent.

This. People thinks that just because they "survived" savage, they can farm normal ignoring all mechanics just because is easier.

The problem is that most people that already cleared hardcore/raids in game got so accustomed to the group they are playing with that they forget that they need to play in a different style or plan/coordinate before pulling. Those people tend to play horrible with random people cuz they don't know how to interact with others.

I was in a party where I got a SMN playing as melee DPS -standing beside or behind the tank-, the other dpsdps, blm, was a bit far yet close enough to get the aoe dmg ( all this was in the vault dungeon) and the tank would DPS one mob at a time and let the SMN steal the aggro and the SMN would stop doing her dots to kill the one or ones on her. There were times the tank would eat aoes, too. I remember when I said brb and the tank "didn't read" the party chat ./swt and went ahead and pull the mobs.

And ironically, I tanked PharosHM yesterday with my FC mates. Murphy's law got me. 1st boss, my controller got warning it was dying (ps4 user here). I hit my marco combo and try to switch it real quick. As I'm switching, I see the 1st corruption is on me T-T. I try to get to a bird or spider in time. It didn't happen. My FC leader was like, "For SHAME!!" to me. Rest went ok (not great, but things were fine) until final boss. Ugh. So I usually deal with both the purple bombs when they come out on the last boss (forgot names). I hit one back, then hit the other back and toward the other one. Keep going till the both are next to each other making it easy to contain. Did this just fine. Then lag. I used CoS to hit both back at the same time. But since my game decided lag. Both went flying toward the grey bombs. Like, smack on top of them. Bombs blow. UGH. Honestly, I didn't realize it was lag at this point. I was just like, "WTF! I swear I hit them in time to be knocked the other way!". FC mates shrug it off and we go to do again. Then I notice it. The lag. Oh god. The lag. Next pull, I saw I did CoS. But my CoS was still up and able to be used. Huh. CoS again. Uh, still available. Oh no. Things freeze up. I try spamming out my combos anyways. A minute goes by with nothing moving. I'm waiting for the game to boot me. Nope. Next thing I know, I see a billion things happening at the speed of light. Ending with a huge explosion and me on the floor. I apologize and tell them sorry for the lag. Ironically, one of my FC mates right after said, "Sorry, I'm not doing great tonight"
"Oh, I mean, yea, I'm lagging too".

xD About 5 minutes go by and I still haven't spawned because of my lag. Eventually the game settled for me and we got through it though. It was a mess, but we all did the thanavian dance in front of the last boss in skimpy gear for a few minutes.

This makes me cringe like the overlooking of A1's mechanics; the boss does not move, and the aoe missle only hits MT every 30 secs, actually opposite the orbs in phase 1. The MT can leave the boss to deal with 1 set of orbs, while the OT deals with the other. During Q, again MT can deal with 1 set of orbs. Usually, and if Im lucky, as MT the orbs spawn close enuff, Ill tell whoever is targeted to position me between them and the orbs and Ill just Holmgang it without leaving Deliverance, pop Second Wind and Thrill to help the healer after I suck up 3 orbs. Save the Vengeance and the Equilibrium pop for the second set.

So, I finally decided to tank A1, I was running it on paladin. During the first run, the other tank, a dark knight, was new to the duty, so I maintanked and explained everything I knew (which is pretty much what I read in this thread xD). Faust was fine, then we reached the Opressor, I told the OT that I'm gonna tank the boss south and that they shall provoke it away from me as soon as 0.5 appears so I can take 0.5 and hold it north. The provoke came a bit late, but it worked, hooray. Unfortunately the DPS was shittier than shit, Alarums died but at the wrong places to at least one rocket exploded after every single add phase. And the DPS was low. Really low. Even below low, I mean, I could use Divine Veil three times and Hallowed Ground twice. I have never seen the enrage in A1 before today, but here it was. At 26%. It was a shame. We had no chance but to call it.

During the second run, I tanked 0.5 again, but nobody attacked it, so 1.0 dropped to 10% while 0.5 was at 35%. Then the other tank, another dark knight, came to 0.5 to attack it, 1.0 following them, gathering damage up stacks and wiping us. Uhm.

Tanking this could be a cakewalk if things would work properly >.<

I just pick up the orbs as healer. Scholar is great at it. It's always fun when people aren't paying attention and go run over there for them anyway though. I'll be standing in the path of the orbs ready to explode them and self-heal in a controlled manner only to have a tank or DPS come over and trample through the place anyway, exploding orbs on themselves in quick succession and catching me in the splash damage. News flash: if you make both of us take a bunch of damage, keeping myself alive takes priority over keeping a DPS alive so I am going to heal myself first. If you die to the orbs in the meantime, that's your problem. :3

Funny that you mention this, usually it's that random bard who takes unnecessary damage when I'm soaking up orbs xD Everytime I just shake my head

Agreed, hate people who feel like they need to "save the day" only to kill themselves because they can't pay attention.

It's just a ton easier to heal yourself during discord. You have complete control over when you take damage and can prepare accordingly, even waiting so you can heal others too. Honestly, if you can't deal with the mechanic properly, you probably should either work on being a better healer, or take up another role.

Yeah, when I heal, I pick up orbs too. Throw a regen up and go grab them. But when I'm tanking, I rarely see that. I tend to grab them if its conveinent then.

Ran Void Ark to test out my Nothung today. Everything going pretty well until we get to the second boss, though the "trash" fight in-between bosses was a little messy.

We get there and he ticks up to like 30 on the first bite. OK... he keeps ticking up, people keep getting theyself ate and not killing adds. It happens. I accept we're gonna wipe. It happens.

Immediately after, people are calling for Abandons. Really? Really? We're so impatient we can't accept one failure? C'mon.

Was getting in my leveling roulette this morning as THM. Got tam tara deepcroft, cool, easy dungeon.

Sprout GLD tank, pretty normal. MNK is other dps, AST healer, around level 45 I think.

Tank has some trouble holding aggro, but this is pretty normal from my experience of the dungeon, I just keep quellin on cool down and try not to pull.

Well, a few pulls after first boss, tanks got 3 scorpion monsters on him, and suddenly his health hits zero. Healer says let him run back, I silently agree because he'll do better without the res debuff. Tank says nothing and doesn't res, so healer does.

Next boss healer stands in corner and doesn't do anything. No heals, no dps. Tank dies, MNK takes aggro and healer actually starts doing something.

After boss, healer throws out "tanks a moron". I counter with no, hes clearly new and used to tanking. We go back and forth, me defending sprout tank, him saying he knows enough to use flash and he could tank better.

The healer goes on to say that he's "too tired to care" and that "most healers are lazy so he doesn't care" and so I told him then he should leave so we can get a healer who does care. He doesn't say anything after that.

We finish the dungeon, and before I leave he says "I still don't care".


I don't care who you are or whether you think someone isnt new or not, you don't need to make their life hell. That tank did about as good as I expect a sprout tank to do.

When I died the first time in this game, I had no idea there was sickness for getting a ressurection. That doesn't make me, or anyone else who doesn't know that, a moron

First dungeon I failed at was copperbell at the slime boss. I just kept hacking away at it and killed the bomb whenever it showed up. So it's late, but I hadn't run any of my roulette's for the night yet. So I decide that I'll at least get my Ex Roulette done for the eso. Queue up as tank and immediately get in. It's Arboretum. We get in, all say our hi's, then stoneskins and protect up, we start. I go to pull the first mob and establish aggro when I suddenly notice in the chat, someone asked me to pull bigger. Eh, sure, why not. I usually take the 1st mob as a tester to see how a party will cope, but seeing the chat, i decided why not. I pull all i can. And give off some flash's/CoS to grab aggro. Suddenly, everything was blue and flashing lights were everywhere. The mob is gone in seconds. Melted faster than butter. I stop for a sec to see what kind of party I have. There's me (PLD), SCH, SUM, SUM. Wait, what?! I thought to myself, hot damn! No wonder they asked for big pulls, we got a party full of summoners. Both had Garuda out of course. So I continue on doing my tank thing. My god. This group was amazing. 1st boss went down before it got his second rotation of Extremely Bad Breath done. We move on to the next batch. Of course, now i'm not hesitant about the big pulls. We burn the 1st two mobs quick (and only reason i stopped there was to grab the coffer as I saw they were just skipping past them. Not that I needed them either, but I like the seals :3).

Next up, bee's. Those damn bee's that every once in a while final sting my butt to death during big pulls. I decide to go for it anyways. I wasn't disappointed. Honeycombs go down quickly and we're at boss #2. For like, a minute. We kill before he can do a 2nd ally (that move where the bee's line up). At this point, I'm just. I dunno. Amazed at how amazing this party is. So I tell them. Basically, I'm going to complain to every party that's not full of SUM's now :3. We all get a good laugh and continue our murder fest. Belladonna didn't even see us coming (nor did we look into her horribly seductive eyes). Great way to end the night. If any of them see this post, I love you all. So much.

So, running VA, looking for the mythical healer's belt. I'm sure it exists. Maybe. Possibly. In another game.

Only one bard, and they're using Foe at every chance, constantly MP-less, acknowledges when I provide 'em The Ewer. Not dying, not standing in shit. Breaks me out of the Sawtooth Spitchain right away.

But the amazing part is that I actually saw Warden's Paean in use.

Told my sister (who was also healing) and my brother (who was tanking), and that bard got more than one commendation.

Lvling my drg in the vault, get a WAR in ilvl120 ironworks gear, that looked really bad to me but who knows the guy might be good. Going to the first boss was fine because for the most part you cannot do big pulls. So after the 1st boss the tank runs for big pulls and of course wipe, no one seems piss so we try again but pull smaller at least which is good. I already had an omen the last boss will be a pain because the tanks hp is so low, like my own hp was like 2k from his and he was already in defiance. Getting to the last boss was rather painful to watch, if I was the healer I would have just said screw this and left the WAR hp just kept dipping so fast. Last boss of course we wipe like times, couple with keeping the tank alive with those heavy hits and aoe heals I won't blame the healer at all. We beat it but the dps and tank gang on the healer saying, "git good". At that point I was piss at those two, like how is it ok for a tank to go into a lvl 57 dungeon with lvl 50 and blame the healer because you couldn't take the time to gear up a little. The WAR was not new I saw he already have other lvl 60 jobs. So I thank the healer and gave the guy my comm.

Yes!! I hate this! As scholar it's so easy, because you can just adlo yourself in between each orb. It's always so frustrating when someone decides to join you...

So, a couple of stories. I'll probably break it up a bit.

Some of my favorite times in Duty Finder were when I was when I grouped with a friend I'd met when we were both unlocking Sch and Smn. We ran some dungeons as a tank healer pair (I was the war) and were pretty much guaranteed instant dungeon runs. Somehow I found just how fast we had a group to be kind of hilarious. And I really just enjoyed the runs. Much more relaxed, which made a big difference.

I also had a lot fun on a run in Satasha, when one of the books for my relic weapon sent me there. I queued up, ...and we were all lvl 50 plus. I imagine everyone else wondered "What are we doing here?" but since we all obviously knew what we were doing, we had fun with it.

I have typically played healer in the past. While I think Guild Wars would be the only one where I've reached "end-game" I've also healed in WoW, LOTRO, and City of Heroes, each of which is fairly different, but I was at least competent regardless. Here, I prefer Sch, but I like WHM. Ast... I'm not ready for it yet. I don't really want to deal with the whole card system yet. I have no real interest in DPS. But, this is the first game where I've tried tanking. Between some dungeons with my friend as mentioned before, my helpful chocobo, and really quick dungeon queues, leveling has been very easy and fairly enjoyable. But I want to point out that it wasn't until around lvl 40 that I started feeling more confident in what I was doing as a tank. I'm still not really comfortable with it, and often run a dungeon as SCH before trying as WAR.

So, to stick with the topic.

I had one run at lvl 28 or 29 in Haukke Manor (before I got Defiance)... and everyone else was lvl 30 or above. I had so much trouble holding aggro. I could overpower, flash, aggro rotation, and still, after just a bit, a monster would try to wander off. The others were very patient and reassured me it would get better when I hit 30, but I was still frustrated the whole time. I had a similar run more recently with a Paladin in Brayflox normal. I was healing, and I hadn't realized Paladins didn't get their tanking stance until 40, which meant that our two blm kept grabbing aggro. It was rough.

Final story, I went on a run as WAR just before I hit 50 in Dzemael Darkhold. It seemed like a friendly group, we were talking about any trouble we had. There was some confusion in the first stage about why I was running to the purple patches. One guy thought I was speed running when I was just avoiding the wandering eye aoe. I think this also threw them off because both the dps had asked to do a full run and get all the chests. As a note, I had enjoyed Dzemael as a healer for some reason, and looked forward to tanking it. The first boss was disappointingly annoying, because I couldn't see around all the crystals. Man it was annoying. But we made it. Second stage, we get to the cliffs... someone get knocked off a level maybe, however it happened, we pull extra enemies and wipe. We try again and the same thing happens. We talk about it, but don't really seem to have much of a better solution than "just try again ...even slower?" I should note at this point that three of us were talking, but I never actually heard a word from the healer. On our third try I noticed him standing in the passage leading away from the cliffs, and I guess he was trying to guide us over, but ... he never said a word. So, we still got knocked off and wiped again... and he quit. We waited for a bit, got a new healer, went straight to that passage since I finally realized what he was trying to tell us (I assume) and made it. Got all the chests. ...I was so tired by the end of that run.

Shoutout to the group I had this morning for a poops-and-laughs Aurum Vale run on my Ninja. Even though we wiped like two or three times it was fun.

After finishing my DRK Anima Weapon I was at a loss as to what to do now, since at i209 I'm virtually at the apex of what's achievable right now, so I decided to start leveling AST.

Got Tam-Tara today. I hate the place from my DRK 30 - 50 experience, but whatevs. I notice problems on the first pull - the tank isn't using Flash at all, and everyone's pulling aggro off him. The ACN asks him to use Flash twice, nothing. The ACN switches to Topaz Carbuncle, and it tanks the bosses instead. Even though I can't stance dance at that level, I'm healing, DPSing, and tanking whatever gets pulled onto me. Despite the fact we have an incompetent Lv31 GLA for a tank, we make it through with no deaths.

The kicker? Not one commendation (though I gave mine to the ACN).

Leveling roulette run of The Dusk Vigil on my 58 Dragoon. I had just recently moved several actions around on my hotbars to make room for the two new attacks I got at 58 plus the last one I'll get at 60. Had a look at the Dragoon guide and was trying to make an initial stab (heh) at the level 60 opener. Practiced just a little bit by running the rank 3 daily hunts, but it's far from feeling natural.

Did OK for the most part (I thought) on the first two-thirds of Dusk Vigil. Had some miscues with the moved actions to be sure, but not doing too badly. On the final boss I got thrown around in the air twice on Whirling Gaol because I was spending too much time thinking about getting attacks in the right order, and not enough time noticing where undamaged piles of rubble were still standing.

Then after clearing the final boss, one of the group members mentions that this was the only time they've ever commended a Dragoon. Felt pretty good. :-)

This, at that level a healer is frigging op dpsing

Finally saw 10 stacks of the burn debuff on Wanderer's Palace hard today. I was running as PLD for my relic (tanking alone was already a mistake), and we wiped on the first boss when the DPS decided to ignore the spears (oh, actually it was entirely my fault for not pointing cleaves at the melee to help). Terrible MCH (who thought she was just the hottest shit) decided to just blame me for everything, gave me lip the entire time, always ran ahead to silently demand big pulls (which I hate). So I pulled the entire middle section exactly like she wanted, pretty sure it would fail horribly (though I have succeeded at it before), and we did. (I had aggro on every enemy in my list, but the 16-target maximum on Flash is a bitch). Of course I get blamed for it, but rather than waste any more time tanking for assholes, I just left without a word, grateful for the 30-minute penalty and hoping I'd never see any of them ever again.

Then I got a /tell from that same person who just had to let me know how terrible I was and what a laugh it was for her morning (don't you just love finding out they're on your server?). So I /blisted and reported for harassment, and once more lost any and all motivation to keep working on my next Relic. I hate people.

Today, leveling my my SCH. Wanted to have fun so said,
"Hey my name is Keyalios, I will be your 3rd DPS, this is Eos, the healer. I can off heal, but she will pretty much be the primary healer."
What did the tank say? "All hail Saint Eos, the best healer in all of Eorzea." And then Eos kept him pretty much topped up. It was only Hatali but it was amusing. Though she did steal aggro from him twice. He asked if he could give her a commendation XD.

My FC lead is a wonderful scholar who essentially says "I'm not the healer, I'm a dps. *points to Eos* There's your healer." She says this jokingly because of course she heals but she knows how to mix in that damage dealing and the healing. I regularly WAR so Eos if my bff. Eos usually gets a /pet or hug from me XD

I met a newbie warrior today in Cutter's Cry for leveling roulette as a machinist. Run's not going bad, but I notice that the tank likes to just pull and doesn't position the mobs so essentially we're always adjusting around the tank. 2nd boss, I notice the SCH running out of MP spamming adlo while dealing with the dot so I says "Leeches can get rid of the debuff." SCH mentions they don't have it, totally forgot about doing the quest, shrug and move on. Suggested that adlo spamming isn't the best way to recover hp in that situation, no biggie SCH's not mad and I'm not. We get to the golems and I decide it's time to suggest to the tank for better positioning. "Pls watch so we don't get cleaved" and their response was that a) We can just side step, b) I complain a lot as a dps ? (I complained once and this was it??) and c) pull the mobs on top of me deliberately. I let them know that not all cleaves are shown as aoes to be sidestepped.

Tank kept following me even when I moved, and I think the WAR would have continued if the SCH didn't speak up and say "hes not whining hes just trying to help." After that the tank stopped, just pulled chimera before I could tell them about the mechanics and welp we had a great SCH who could cover for them getting hit by almost all of the Ram's Voices (of which we had more than the other). I was going to let them know that yes we can sidestep but that's only for attacks that can be telegraphed, positioning helps so that patrols aren't pulled by melee who are trying to do well, and that it lowers group performance when the tank doesn't do their job.

I may be remembering when I died in Stone Vigil's last boss when I had blood for blood up, the tank had the boss face the arena instead of the corner, and I had a bunch of the frozen ground aoes in my way so I didn't move to the corner.... I got OHKO because of frost breath +blood for blood...

Had a fractal group last night that ran off as soon as I started casting protect. I just sttod there for a second wondering if I should leave.

I decided to give them a chance. Maybe they were waiting before the first mobs for me... Nope, they just charged right in, no healer, no protect. So I walked slow and let them die.

I figured that may be lesson enough, or that the would kick me as soon as time permitted, and they ran up and waited for protect this time. So I stuck around.

We the dps were on point, but the WAR was definately a Fate dps tank. No idea what a defensive CD was, or how to step out of an AOE. He was just aweful, droping into deliverance while losing hate and the like. He died at least one more time as I couldn't be bothered to try very much for him.

When healing, if the group runs off before protect, I always consider walking out right then.

I've been leveling my first tank class recently, a DRK mainly for the story. I have most of the necessary cross-class cooldowns, so I'd hope it'd make it easier on the healer to deal with my general incompetence. Though I haven't done anything that has led to a wipe yet, mostly just the odd losing aggro on one or two mobs per dungeon and all. In which I profusely apologize.

Anyway, today I got Haukke Manor as my leveling roulette. I remembered during my very first run through the dungeon as a WHM, the tank then taught me that the final boss there can't actually successfully cast Void Fire/Thunder III if you move behind her while she's trying to cast those spells. Half a year later, I put that into use as my first time tanking the dungeon, and it worked amazingly. Although... Things kinda went to hell during add phase and the healer and one of the DPS got blown up. Not sure if I didn't grab adds fast enough or they got blown up by AoEs. D:

Great isn't it? Most casts of Thunder can be avoided, I don't believe it works on Fire though, I'd have to test that out.

Works for both Void Fire III and Void Thunder III in Haukke normal! It's been something I've tried to share with each tank I meet and the rest of the group. A lot of times though people will ignore it or say it doesn't matter...

This sudden urge to try this out on my marauder. Not having Defiance sucks, did I tell you? No? Well... not having Defiance sucks! Specially on this one Haukke run I had today, had a lv60 WHM (urgh), a lv32 bard (uurgh) and a lv52 machinist (uuuuuuuuuuurgh) with me. All I thought was "shit". So I marked mobs, hoping the best, and of course the machinist didn't follow them. Yay. Asked them to follow marks. "Who cares". Ugh. Time to OP-spam the hell outta these mobs. So glad the marauder can cross-class Invigorate, and I really hope that Defiance will let me build up enough aggro so I don't need to spam OP anymore ._.

TL;DR: An idiot feeling like a pro and behaving like shit because they're lv50+.

Huh, imagine that.

In all but two of the last ~10 leveling dungeons, we've wiped to trash at least once. Sometimes two, three, or four times. Most of these players weren't sprouts. At least the tank I pulled from with Blizzard 1 and Quelling Strikes was leveling his first job.

Slow the hell down and pay attention. We're all tired of grinding, but this can either take 20-30 minutes or an hour.
