Might want to do your research there buddy, it can be avoided by everyone if timed correctly. Plenty of videos on this already...do your research before blindly replying to my posts.
What have I done SE to make you hate me so much that you keep putting me with WHMs who don't know how Medica II works? It's becoming a disturbing pattern and I'm starting to get weirded out.
I ran another Sastasha HM today. The WHM used Medica II AFTER every pull was finished. Like right when the last mob was about to die they cast Medica II. Why? Just... why? But gods be praised this WHM actually stopped when I asked them why they were doing it.
ikr? She's so awesome.
False.
Said mechanic can be dodged by everyone, plenty of youtube vids for you to look through (though knowing forum behavior, you won't). DPS doesn't have a right to get mad, a damage carry should always be quiet. Especially when everyone else was listening and acted accordingly.
Or you could simply direct people to this proof other than going "you're wrong".
Supposedly you can turn away, but I've never seen anyone do it and never blame anyone else of I'm the healer and someome dies from Doom. It's very easy to heal through and a lot of the time people don't notice him casting it (I never have and I've run that place many times).
If someone screws up the mechanic you are just hurting the team if you let that person die if you can save them. I actually have no idea why you would ignore them. The boss would have died faster if you just healed the DPS to begin with
I think it's just petty to let someone die to doom on purpose. Heal them once and move on.
I started in 3.2 and no one ever turns around in the 50-100 whatever amount of runs I've done.
Um, buddy, your job is still to save your Doomed allies if a mistake is made, even if it's avoidable.
Like. That is literally your job. As a healer. You keep people from being dead. Doom is really good at making them dead no matter how well players otherwise keep out of stupid.
"Oh no, my teammate has Doom. Lustrate! Yay, he's good now, how are my DoTs doing?"
You making a point to NOT HEAL through a mechanic that can only be fixed by you healing... well. That doesn't back up your claim at doing lovely as a Scholar.
Precisely. Funny enough, me and my friends got the dungeon as part of roulette, with a PUG leveling WHM. Last boss, we wiped because the WHM didn't heal Doom. WHM was Japanese and none of us could speak the language so we couldn't explain anything to them.
One of my friend then said about dodging Doom by looking away so we tried. Lo and behold, Doom still hit and it was none other than my friend who advocated to look away (he did look away) and died from it and we wiped again. Third try, we looked away and still both of my friends (I was the tank) got Doom and died. Finally my other friend managed to ask the JP healer to heal Doom and they did and things went so.much.easier and we cleared.
I still doubt the validity of the "look away to dodge Doom" claim especially after what I witnessed, but yes, that doesn't excuse the attitude to let people die if the healer can rectify it.
Interesting.
Simply because I can here is a video of me staying turned around the entire time waiting for doom and it still hits me.
https://youtu.be/9rBDrBi1D-o
I do this twice while never looking at him, hits me both times, for science of course. Although I knew this is how the mechanic worked, but hey might as well post proof.
So, you might wanna drop the salt? Seems you were wrong and you simply didn't want to own up to it.
So because of all the attention this has gathered, and because I was genuinely curious, I went into Wanderer's Palace hard mode to test this. Solo unsynced. I'll happily go in with a full party to test it too if you want more proof.
But for now it seems you're wrong.
I did multiple tests, and I'll upload the video if you like, but turning away does not stop doom from hitting. The only way that doom seems to not cast is if you have a AST or SCH shield on the target and they take no damage from the Soul Douse cast. Either way it's the healers responsibility.
I've been playing since those dungeons were released and I've never seen any theory that you could turn away from that, but feel free to link proof of those videos of people turning away to avoid it.
I can't think of any look-away mechanics that do not have the gaze marker. Honestly it makes no sense. The only clue we even get for that mechanic is if you heal the person it a message in chat pops "HP is full. The death sentence has been lifed!"
Edit: :D Someone else has already uploaded their proof, but I will happily add mine too if I need to lol
I think you watched the wrong guide then

I also crop this from the video for you. :D

We did try that however, the healer refused to stand close to the boss, so we tried to solider on. Felt like shit giving the man the boot, but a group can only try so much short from controlling the character for them not sure what else we could have done.
Honestly was a shock though since I never experienced something like that before, I read the tales in novice network but never experienced first hand.
"Stand right on his butt and he cant throw you far enough to fall off. After that we'll win no problem." Something like that. Or the one that i used when learning it as BLM, "Start dodging that attack the second the line shows up on the map, otherwise server lag will hit you every time. Dont finish casting that spell, just run. You can start casting again once youre safe." If that level of encouragement isnt enough, they either need much more practice to feel comfortable... or they might require a carry to pass titan. Either as a DPS dead on the ground(which im not too proud to admit has been me once or twice in the past - ive worked on this and am better now), or an unsync where them being there doesnt affect the outcome of the fight.
Man it"s gotta be super embarrassing to be both this wrong and also so rude about it. Soul Douse is only avoidable if the target is shielded enough to not take damage from the attack at all. Otherwise the doom is removed by the target being healed up to full.
I brought some marshmallows for the roasting y'all are providing.

Ever notice how everyone who says this never has the slightest clue of what they're talking about? It's like Eorzea's version of an antivaxxer. "Don't listen to big healer, you can cure Doom with organic rock salt, raw dravanian spring water, and not looking directly at the boss!"
I remember this boss very well.Doom isnt avoidable.
I remember when we did the dungeon back in ARR in man mode(4 warriors) and it resulted in us wiping many times because of the unavoidable doom.
People need to learn the difference between a rumor and a fact. They are 2 different things.Contrary to the belief of the majority of the worlds population these days.
I'll just leave this here...

Playing tank on Midgardsormr makes me want shout like piccolo in DB Abridged, seeing those healers and dps struggling to dodge AOE.

I think that player is confusing doom mechanics from CT or confusion from the boss that can clone itself and become ghost. You need to kill a sphere and then get the buff and stand right next to the boss to make it and its clone visible. I can't remember the name of that skill "confusion/hysteria"? That you can face away from the boss and even if you are in that cone aoe and don't get hit.
What I tested is that SOME dooms in regular dungeons won't disappear evwn after healing the player to full HP. With the new cross skills mechanica NOW, healers are forced to have Esuna so you can dispell the boss skills. I was in qua....forgot that place name. I went as a healer and I was not able to dispel doom even though everybody got full GP bar. Everybody wipe and got to reset my corss skill and get esuna and that worked as a charm.
Of the Doom mechanics I recall offhand, only one is Esunable (Doomgaze), two require the Doom'd subject to stand on platforms (Qarn and...First boss of World of Darkness, which *can* be blocked by turning away) and the last boss of WPHM, which you heal to full to cleanse. I am sure I am missing some, but Esuna isn't needed in most cases. Still a good idea.
Trying to look some up reminded me of o4's Esunable Doom. Still seeing if I am missing any.
The mechanic where you turn away to avoid Doom is the first boss in WOD.
And yeah most people dont dodge that still XD
2 separate stories from last night!
~Syrcus Tower~
I queue up for Alliance roulette as Astrologian and got Syrcus Tower. I actually love this raid and am trying to collect the healing set, but still need a few pieces. Anyways, the dungeon goes on without a hitch until I notice a somewhat lack of heals and buffs aside from my own. Our group had double Astros and I was already in noct from a previous trial. The other astro went diurnal so I thought all was good, but something seemed off. I clicked his character and began observing his actions. This little lala was tossing out beneficts and malefics ONLY, was in all lvl 60 shire gear, and had a mentor crown, but he was not using aspected helios, benefict, or his card buffs. I honestly would not have cared at all if I hadn't been the one in nocturnal sect, but not having hots on an alliance is a huge detriment. I gave him a chance with the first trash pulls, the first boss, and even the second trash pulls to see if he maybe just was forgetting. After the second trash clear, I confronted him in party chat. I simply wanted to suggest he try using them in case he was new to the class or something. He said "I have been this whole time". I quickly told him I had been watching and that, no he in fact had not been using them and seemed to be only halfway paying attention at best. He then said okay, no point in trying to lie in an online game. Essentially conceding that he was not using them on purpose.
The only issue I had is that he had a mentor crown with this type of playing mentality.
~The Royal City of Rabanastre~
I decided to recruit some FC mates to run Rabanastre as my last run for the night to grab a coin for augmented lvl 70 gear. I ran as Astro and had two red mage FC buddies tag along. The first boss was a little bit of a mess. The other two alliances were scattered randomly across the map and were neglecting their waymarkers. This wasn't too big of an issue until the 3 snake things needed to be burned while Mateus was charging his ultimate. All 3 were tethered for quite some time, our tank finally broke ours off, and we were the first group to burn their add. The other two alliances needed help asap. We burned one and then the other stopping Mateus' ult at 99%!!!! Talk about lucky. I honestly thought we would wipe there, but we pulled through. Then.... then Hashmal. Group B healers were constantly dead with Group A falling behind shortly after. The scholar, 2 red mages, and myself representing group C were having to rez the other groups just to keep the raid from wiping. Our group was the only one to destroy their second Sand Sphere. We end up wiping from the other two "To Dust"s since A and B didn't have the dps for them due to deaths. This repeated almost exactly for a second wipe. The "vote abandon" notification popped up, but our group was determined to carry this raid through! Third time, deaths from groups A and B were abundant still. One of my alliance members began using a macro to alert people to kill their Sand Spheres. From then on, people would die on occasion, but received a rez shortly after. Hashmal was finally downed thanks to the competence of Alliance C! Rofocale was easy, but seemed pretty long compared to my other encounters with him. Argath took FOREVER! He went through 6 phases of obey/disobey if I remember correctly and 3/4 phases of proximity AOEs.
We did it though, but at the cost of our life energy.
This is more of a vent post than anything... but nothing irritates me more than playing well and not getting coms.
Temple of the fist: Warrior decides to pull the first 2/3s of the last section. We get through it no problem, thanks to having to heal half the time (as RDM) and the Dragoon literally going bonkers with AoE (also: that Bloodbath + AoE combo is insane HP regen). We get to last boss. Healer can evade the ghosts, I end up swiftcast rezzing (didnt accept and released ><) and healing the tank. We get it to 4% from about 70% and wiped because i was OoM. Rinse and repeat on 2nd try except I raised the healer twice and on the 3rd death he released. DRG was dead too, so WAR and I took the final 20~ percent.
All the while, I was civil to everyone. Didnt offer any advice that could be misconstrued by the you dont pay my sub crowd. Just frustrating because it seams that the people that dont recognize good/selfless play are those that will probably repeatedly be bad and not learn anything from their experiences.
So I need to vent:
I did my level 50/60 roulette on my RDM and got Copperbell HM. I had a BLM, a WHM, and a PLD as my party. The PLD tank proceeded to not say a word, and pull literally one pack at a time, and if there was a singular mob they pulled that one at a time too. I said, hey *insert name*, we have a very strong AOE dps comp, feel free to pull more. They ignored me, and continued to pull a singular mob over and over until the first boss.
Not only does the PLD tank the boss in the beginning of the ramp sitting in fire, but they're not grabbing aggro on a single additional add. We wipe on the first boss due to a bomb going off. I don't know how it went off, because I was literally casting spells at it, but either packet loss (good old east coast primetime lag) or (do casters get interrupted if they're getting hit? I don't know I dont normally play a caster) something happened. I guess the PLD had enough and left again, not a single word all dungeon. We replaced them and quickly got through it with ease.
Then I queued up for Leveling and got Qarn. I had a sprout SMN and a sprout WHM. The WHM proceeds to cast protect 4 times during the first fight and literally doesn't heal the tank at all the first pull and the tank dies (he's a level 60+ scaled down, not undergeared). No big deal, mistakes happen. Then the tank dies the second trash pull... Ok what's going on? You didn't cast a single heal. They still haven't said a single word.
Third pull in, tank dies again... The WHM at this point is healing, but only when the DRK only gets to like 10% HP and he dies like 4 times before the first boss. We get to the first boss and the healer dies to doom, despite explaining the mechanic in extremely simple words. I did watch the WHM cast a really juicy Stone II though. Randomly...
We pull again, and naturally the WHM dies, and we move on and kill the boss. Throughout this entire dungeon the WHM stood in EVERY single telegraph AOE. Eventually when we wipe on the second boss because the healer is accidentally healing themselves instead of the tank and finally says something. "it's really hard to heal you when you don't stand still". At this point between all the deaths, the silence, and this comment I'm like mind******. "Are you actually clicking on the person to heal them? Use your party frames to heal". The DRK explains how to use Cure II and so that's all the WHM then uses. They naturally die to telegraphed attacks and the SMN swiftcast res's and the WHM doesn't accept. We eventually wipe at like .5%. Thanks...
We go in again, WHM dies naturally, but we clear. WHM does not use ANY aoe healing.
We finally get to the end with no more tank deaths now that they understand how to cure II the tank, and neglect everyone else. They naturally die to last boss due to telegraphs and we clear.
This WHM has 3 characters over level 50. I AM terrified to think of all the toxic experiences she put people through while leveling.
I really wanted to kick them, but as a DPS I try not to stir the pot too much because long queues and I don't feel like getting kicked myself.
Well lets see...
We once had a paladin in our DF for Satasha (lvl16) I somehow ended up tanking as a rogue, he well auto attacked more than using his skills,
I and another said "flash is your best friend" he ignored it completely, I'm sure you know how weak rogue is early, I tanked the Cat and fish boss >..<
Seeing as this warrior just did this I feel compelled to speak out against the idea.
You know that painful pull with the two serpents before the ape enemies in Hell's Lid? Can you like... not swap to deliverance mid pull on enemies that can hit for 5 digits? Thanks.
Signed, a healer who didn't particularly enjoy a warrior who thought decimates were more important than the loss of healing from defiance and hp restoration from steel cyclones. In other cases? Have at it.
I have yet to fail the pull but it doesn't mean I'm not vehemently opposed to the idea of some tanks turning their tank stance off on possibly the one and only pull in expert dungeons that matters most.
The tank did not appear to be a jump potion user, I merely stated that to demonstrate that the DRK wasn't undergeared (hence him dying repeatedly to single pulls). The tank was fine. The healer was the issue and the healer had 3 different characters in the 50's, but none max level. I do not suspect that the healer was a jump potion player either.
Tanker who didn't know how to use her cooldowns was losing alot damage on sirensong. And them she decide to pull the two wolfs with the seduce mob. And our dps was low. That horrible paladin she didn't even use her stuns on the seduce mob. Than we wipe. I really hate tanks since wow. I have to heal the dps on that part because maybe the tank didn't know how to hold aggro too? Because that is the only explanation for our two dps lose hp on that part too. She couldn't use flash 3 times. I mean nothing, absolutely nothing can be more easy than tank on sirensong. She also falls on puddles aoes. And then I look and she was with the 340 gear...
Comms are relative....or something. The other day I had a Pally die during the Heart of Titan phase and tanked/kited the boss until we beat him -no comms. Derped off a cliff and pulled a room full of monsters in Dzamael and got 3 comms. It never makes sense. ;)
