They're not Hyurs either. I'm not really sure entirely what they are exactly but they are different. Similar in that they are both humanoid sure but aside from that they're different. That's like saying Lalafell are just short, pudgy Hyur.

Hey, I'm just trying to talk about what is possible rather than what is impossible.

And with "significant changes to Eorzea" planned, who knows, they could decide to work the galaka-tails back in for Roegadyn like they originally wanted but couldn't achieve under the crystal tools engine on PS3 requirements.

So it's plausible. Not guaranteed, not impossible, but plausible, if they chose to go down that path.

How about female Roes, not just the npc , female Highlander, Demi Humans and Dragons? Thats what I mean.

Well demi humans and dragons were never confirmed to be player races, so we'll eventually see them when the game leads us to it, hell there's already dragon/ffxi styled wyvern in the data, so a wyrm family like in FFXI we'll probably see in due time since it's what Ishgard is fighting against and we're not seeing that till near 2013.

Probably not too much differents from those of the other gender

My memories of XI are a bit fuzzy :confused:, but if I recall there was a gaping hole in the Galka rebirth background. Unless I'm missing something, once they reach a certain age, they wander off and after a while a child wanders back in to the settlement. Now assuming I'm not forgetting something horribly important, that's a 1:1 ratio... so their numbers could never increase, and assuming that if they're killed before that, they stay dead...they're doomed for extinction :eek:.
Now granted, the Mithra male/female birth ratio is a fairly solid reason.

FFXI lore doesn't apply anymore. The missing genders for Roegadyn, Miqo'te, and Highlander are being implemented in 2.0.

Will we be allowed to Name Change along with the free gender/race change thing we're supposed to get for 2.0?


I picked a female cat because that's all there was at the time, and I wanted to be a cat.

I gave her an appropriate girly name.

Myself and others who'd like to be male cats sure would look kind of dumb running around with girly names...

and I'd hate to have to redo all the work I put into the game. All that fishing took awhile.

It wouldn't be out of line with other MMO's, really.

WoW lets you pay to change your race, your gender, your name, and even what side you are on...

Ultima Online lets you redo everything too, for a fee.

I think it would make sense if everyone can have a 1 time switch-a-roo of everything when 2.0 comes out, especially since new options are becoming available now that all of us legacy people didn't get to pick from.

Unfortunately, letting us change our name isn't in the plan for 2.0. :(

I'd be surprised if it wasn't an option somewhere down the line though. There are plenty of people with gender-specific names who are switching genders come 2.0.

It's the least they can do seeing as they came up with it way after most of us put too much time into stuff to look back.

It's going to be awfully idiotic seeing male characters with names like "MewMew McKitty" and "Fluffycat" and crap. -_- lol

I recently resubscribed and was wondering this as well, since I would like to do a race/gender swap for one of my characters that has a very girly name. The latest info I could find is this, from an interview last month:

It sounds like they understand the issues people may have with wanting to change race/gender but having a name that won't work, but aren't sure if they can do it.

Well to be fair, YoshiP did say it's more of a double-edged thing in a sense, name change would make sense given people who may gender swap..HOWEVER, it could also be restricted simply due to the database since they're importing everything over from 1.x.

Not to mention people who are escaping a reputation will abuse the name change feature xD (Though at XIV's current state I doubt this is one of the reasons its restricted.)

Mr. Meow is male, at least.

Have they confirmed 100% that it's not coming? If so, did they even give a reason why?

I don't see how a database would limit being able to change name fields. Updating databases isn't exactly a modern, ground breaking technology. Even Ultima Online lets you do it, and it's older than half the players on FFXIV...

I don't see the reputation thing as a problem.

An idiot is an idiot. Let them keep paying 20$ a pop to change their name when they make a total ass of themselves.. More $$ for FFXIV development!

SE said many times that the foundation systems of XIV are heavily flawed in 1.x, so this is why they said they'll do everything they can to make it happen but they're not sure if it's possible. It worked in XI perfectly fine since the foundation wasn't flawed, but with 1.x > 2.0 transition it depends on the foundation changes if it will be possible or not since they're still for all intents and purposes using a game that couldn't even have a regular messaging system that existed in MMOs since the early 90s.

I heard that they would make a person choose a new name if they had chosen an inappropriate one.. So I thought it was possible already, but I could have heard false info. :x

If it's not possible when we remake our chars perhaps they will be able to make it possible at a later time. (Hopefully.)
