Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I haven't had much to report lately. I have been helping a couple of new friends with the game that already have experience with MMOs, and we have been running together from time to time. It has cut down on the chances of me encountering ridiculous people, although it's still possible because I have been doing weekly triple CT runs and roulettes by myself still. I guess the only problem I've been having lately is dying to mechanics because people have been ignoring them in the crystal tower raids. For example, dying on Scylla because not enough people were on the pads for daybreak and the adds clustered on me while I was petrified, or having to offtank 1-3 mobs at a time on Syrcus trash pulls.

I will say that I was shocked when my tank in Syrcus this week actually protected me from adds instead of letting me tank them myself. It blew my mind.

There have been a lot of trolls in all CT raids lately. Early pulling, ignoring mechanics... LotA is the worst by far though.

And a tank protected you? I wish I had such luck. I always seem to end up tanking any adds I pull in that place.

Pretty sure you can't push clouds with Fluid Aura.

I consider myself quite lucky...I don't have significant healing horror stories to share. That might be because I view everything as a way to challenge myself though.

To be honest, since I haven't been in WoD as a WHM at all, I can't verify that either myself. I've just heard it's possible from FC mates and at the time I saw the WHM in question standing beside a Dark Storm as it was rapidly sucked into Cloud. I dunno, perhaps my eyes be playing tricks on me. Either way, she certainly wasn't helping healing too much >.>;

That's how I tend to look at it too. However, while I know I can solo heal a party for WoD, it doesn't mean I should be forced to make up for the other healer if they are perfectly capable and intentionally chose to make if more difficult for me. Regardless, I slug through it anyway because I won't be the one responsible for a party wipe of that nature if I can help it.

Challenges are great, challenges imposed by others due to their negative behavior rubs me the wrong way.

I don't have much to post on recently (I am NOT the same person who posted earlier ^, we just have the same account), mainly because I took a break for a while.

I did finally get around to doing LotA, CT and Snow Cloak, which have all been fairly simple. Though the Trolls in LotA are ridic.

I did try to run Snow Cloak last night (second run. for Poetics) and shut the game off after the "first" pull. The other three players were all in a party (All had "Reborn" as last name, no way that its a coincidence) and the tank pulled all the mobs up to the boss door. None of them said anything, he just pulled forever. After the inevitable wipe (I pulled out everything I had. Also the DPS were Bard and Dragoon, not the best combo for full pull) I just quit. Wasn't in the mood for that.

Hmm. That's about it I think.

Edit: Oh wait no. I just remembered a crazy runs I had of CM and Thornmarch (Hard) [Ran for funsies. I really like it ok]

The CM was just. I don't even know how to describe it. You know how you sometimes go into a Full/Raid Dungeon and noone's new, and everyone is chatting yet there is still that one person who seems lost and doesn't seem to know what to do? Yeeaaaah that was this, but with everyone but me and the Bard. One guy was new, so that's fine, especially since he was a tank and we had another who was at least ilvl 100. Well... The new guy ended up doing most of the actually tanking because for some reason this ilvl 100 tank was clueless. It was... I don't even know. He ended up grabbing all the big guys at the end, even though I told him to ignore them and we can go up and around, but he did. We wiped, and one of the DPS left. We got through it, but not after a whole bunch of poor understanding between everyone and me and the bard. Firing Cannons all up on the boss, then not going to the middle like we told them too. .-. Against Livia the WHM started off with Medica II before the MT pulled. He waited for it to die off before pulling her, but the WHM used it again so the MT pulled her. She ran all the way across the field to the WHM. I said "You shouldn't use Medica II before fights." and he was all ">.>".

But all-in-all it was extremely fun. Hadn't been so entertained in months in the main story quests.


Thornmarch was another example of poor communication. I took marking moogles upon myself, I always do. I don't trust y'all (I've had too many bad markers/people who don't do it at all or fight about it). Well... We wiped FOUR times. After the first, me and a few others told the new OT to pull the tanks away from everyone (he was told this before the first pull), and he said he couldn't find them (they are marked with big red symbols though). After the second wipe some people were saying the order was wrong. It definitely wasn't (BLK > WHM > BRD > RNG > ROG), hell I've had teams not wipe and just burn down the boss after only killing 4 moogles. I said everyone needs to stop getting hit by AoEs so often, and the DPS needed to stop getting stunned. After the third I said it HAD to be the DPS. They weren't burning fast enough. The MT said everyone has to follow the order. All the DPS, sans the SMN, said the were. So we went again and we wiped. Again.

By this time I was getting tired, but I held out. I told everyone that we need to kill faster (Even with Three Echoes we never got close) and said that I would help DPS if they would avoid AoEs. The MT said it seemed to be coming out faster than usual, and if someone was attacking the King they should stop. The Fourth Echo was a big help in clearing the moogles (first time the Team was able to clear all moogles before the Kind was summoned.) I ended up healing mainly, along with my fellow SCH then I noticed it. The whole time the SMN had Garuda attacking the wrong targets. It was sitting there, it attacked the king then switched targets and just focused on the PAL. So I said "Garuda is attacking a Tank. Fix it." They did, and we were able to clear. I assume, as did the MT, that the SMN wasn't managing Garuda at all, and had her chip away at the King the whole time. It doesn't seem like Garuda would have done enough damage to set off the King early but it was definitely going off much earlier than I was use too.

It wasn't fun. Sadly.

We live in the same house, are brothers, and use the same PS3. I don't think there is a problem with it.

Edit: I use a different character so I make sure that I differentiate myself from my brother, or else people will get either A. Confused at what the hell I'm saying, B. Think my brother has A LOT of horror stories and junk or C. Both.

I haven't played FF14 for long (2nd month to-date) but I've been getting frustrated in runs. Standard run of the mill horror stories, tanks that won't take aggro, gung-ho DPSs, attacking trash mobs that i've marked and reposed...etc.

The one that really takes the cake's got to be my Haukke Manor run this morning. Everyone was just attacking as they like cos you know, "we has a healer!! We are teh invincible!". We wiped THRICE at final boss because no one cared to take mobs off me, even with a macro on auto translate to do so.

It was just... ugh.

Low level healing is the worst(as in you being a low level. Doing low levels when you get to a high level is soooo easy). You'll get use to having to healing idio-I mean players who don't play as a team, but it doesn't really get much better only more manageable once you get better at the game and junk.

Your Haukke Manor experience is common it seems. I've experienced it myself. Its an easy dungeon, especially if you've ran it like 20 times, so people get bored and think its fun to run off and see if they can kill something and not die. Meanwhile us healers are sitting there having a heart attack and pulling our hair out.

Also, tanks who don't pull mobs are the worst. Omg the amount of times you will die because of this. The best feeling ever though is when you have a bad tank and you end up tanking all the mobs and finishing the dungeon. Its glorious.

I have a feeling I may have been part of that run. During the hexagon phase, I saw another group member doing nothing but jumping. I didn't check which job, nor do I remember the player's name.

Speaking of WoD which I'm playing a lot on BLM for gear I'm so bored of lazy healers in there. I think when you main a healer you notice it more. A recent example was during a fight where my groups Tank was MT. One of the healers was new and died a lot so the other guy was having problems ressing and healing the MT who then died and the fight went horribly. One of the healers in the other group complains that the MT wasn't near enough to his healers. I'm like "Well was he near NO healers?"

It's like people pass the book to one group despite seeing they had a healer down. Not even healing the MT is just incredibly lazy if i don't see the same number of regen on the MT as WHM in the raid i roll my eyes. I never understand why some people see a raid in FFXIV as some sort of competition. Instead of helping a group who has people down and a healer struggling to get people up they'll be like "lulz A is struggle group"

If I'm healing a raid and my team is doing mostly fine with medica II i'll focus on the MT and supporting other groups it helps incredibly. If somebody from another team is close to me with low damage I'll throw a cure on them. Never understand why some people just don't get what a raid means.

The player in question marked themselves with the X icon so I imagine it was pretty noticeable if you saw that. It was a fem miqo'te WHM with a Yagrush in a black Lady's Yukata glamour. I could give the name but I'm not allowed to name shame via forum rules =p Ah well~

Totally this. If I see an alliance with five WHMs, I expect to see five Regens on whomever is the MT 85% of the time. Sadly, I usually only see 0-1 Regens on the MT (and that one is usually my own).

Though it's funny, as a healer main branching out into other classes for casual content, when I see a healer messing up, I REALLY notice *Points to few more horror stories above about bad healers while on DRG* It's something I wouldn't notice while I was healing because generally speaking, when I go into trial DR content, I tend to assume I'm carrying anyway.

Last night I was doing a couple of LL roulettes with my alt character to level up her WHM and in one run we got the thousand maws dungeon. As we are going through i notice that the tank is getting hit a little harder than I'd expect from a lvl 29 warrior. So at a pausing moment I check his gear and he has a lvl 20 weapon and generic white heavy top and bottom and almost no accessories. So I glance at his profile to see if he's new to the game and he was a lvl 50 WHM main. I was baffled but we pushed through and won the day. Definitely kept me on my toes in the last boss fight.

I'm just curious. Some of you say there should be as many Regens on the MT a WHMs in a raid. Is there an easier way then D-Pad targeting the MT on PS3? You can't manually click on the character in the Alliance bars so the only way I have found to be able to target them is with my D-Pad.

I'm only asking because it makes it hard to target the MT because of how the targeting works. You have cycle through all the people who are in view of you until it lands on the person you want. Which can be time consuming and very frustrating if I am trying to heal my team. I heal other Alliance members if I can, but the targeting can be very slow. So it's not so much me being lazy/competitive/whatevers, I just can't do it at times.

I know a little about controller targetting and it is a valid point about trying to cycle via alliance, so I will admit there are limitations on a healer in that respect.

With that said, I can't imagine 90% of the WHM population plays on controller and doesn't know how to Regen the MT either .-. Heh

Just a quick horror story -

Just had a run in Totorak that I kind of assumed would go oddly regardless (avulsion fractured my left ring finger recently so while it's in a metal splint, I can't use it... which means trying to adapt to playing on the keyboard other ways (thumb/pointer/middle on the AWD keys with my ring and pinky fingers stickng up in the air) - but kinda slows me down... can't use same hand to hit hotkeys, tab and move at the same time without that ring finger >_<). but I figured 'meh, just level low level jobs in easy going dungeons - humans are adaptable!', 'pfft, low level dungeon just to see how well I do with my little three fingered-ness and mouse clicking skills/spells even if it's a derpy way to go'.

......the marauder tank was brand new and didn't know anything about enmity. Also ignored everything we said to help. Soooo that means I tanked AND healed about 80% of the dungeon, including the entirety of first boss, and the other bosses part of the time >_>
It would have been a horror story even without the injured finger. Luckily, there was only one blm death from lost aggro and my not able to step-castcancel+ party click+skill click fast enough...

...so a.) I'm tanking almost everything and healing/esuna'ing myself/everyone and the same time, b.) couldn't manuever/coordinate as much as I'd like/normally be able to in order to deal with this extra bad situation when every aoe and monster is pointed at me.... so I kinda face-tanked some aoes/poisons
Figured "maaaaybe I shouldn't be healing with a broken finger sort of slowing me down" (fingers were all switched around on directionals, so I ended up moving confusedly >_<). (had similar forced-derping for movement/getting into attack-range on lancer, too >_> but at least easier to just click through the rotation)

I've been noticing a disappointing trend with fellow SCHs lately. (This also applies to SMNs and WHM, and to a lesser extent BLK) This trend is the lack of using Virus and especially E4E. I've been running a lot of Syrcus Tower recently and I am 95% of the time the only one using Virus and E4E.(if my tank is MT, otherwise the MT doesn't usually, if ever, get E4E)

This isn't a HUGE deal, as Syrcus Tower isn't exactly hard, but it makes me wonder if:
a. They don't understand what the spells do, b. are being lazy and/or c. they are using but at the wrong times, like when the boss/tank has it on already.

I don't like seeing other players not using their job to their full potential, so it disappoints me.


Oh also, a lot of PUG Healers don't use Esuna/Leeches. ]: Its a lot of work curing status effects by myself.

Anyway sorry to all y'all. I know a lot of you already cast these and that's awesome, keep up the good work! (:

I was healing in one of the CTs for the weekly quest, and the other healer (SCH i think) was using E4E on a dps after he took damage...
I don't think anyone has an idea of what that skill does...
*goes back to crafting*

I have a macro attached to my E4E to let people know I've used it so that they don't accidentally overlap with mine. I need to do that for Virus, though.

Same. I don't macro tell that I used Virus though even though I use it all the time. If I see the tick already I won't put it up, and in raids I call it out.

I had one instance where I joined a WoD in progress (they were at last boss). I was partied with another WHM. The fight commenced and I'm focusing my heals on the tank.

I felt like I was solo healing, since I only saw my Regen and only my heals on the tank. The tank then takes two stacks from Zero-Particle Beam and dies. My tank takes over and he says "I'm counting on you Sumimi."

Of course, I keep the tank up perfectly fine. Half the alliance dies (all dps, some healers) to a failed Xande mechanic and cloud phase starts. Everyone's getting up from Healer LB3 and I figured I had to DPS.

The other WHM called me out for that, "We have enough DPS, I can't heal everyone." I took a look at our HP bars...everyone was at 60%, a medica II was ticking and there was no AOE damage incoming. Literally, there was no particle beams coming out. Even if the alliance missed one particle beam, no one would die. Reluctantly, I popped out of cleric stance (which let one of the clouds get to boss) and used a medica to top everyone off.

Cloud's AoE goes off, only my party stayed alive since we used tank LB. Cloud had probably 8-9 stacks. I res another healer, so they could LB3 again, then Hyperactive Clouds came out and we wiped.

Pulled it again, killed the boss. Throughout the fight, the other healer was using Medica II when everyone was at full health, ignored the tank taking damage, no regens, no cleric stance, and ended the fight at 80% MP. I significantly out geared him and I still ended the fight at less than 5%.

So, I waited for the healer to leave and said, "Heal. He said, and he ends the fight with that much MP?"

It turns out that the healer I replaced was the SO of that healer, and that the party was doing incredibly poor until I came along.

I got 6 commends for that run, and I won the minion.

I was SCHing Titan HM on Trial DR, tank runs straight in, alright, no problem, we'll make due.

WHM I'm partnered with literally sits in the middle and just occasionally casts Medica or Medica II with each Tumlt or phase change attack (forgot what it's called), not even cast Proshell at the pull. Basically eats stacked Weight of the Land in P5 and dies. I don't even bother raising said WHM because it's pretty clear they don't want to try. Sadly, they probably wanted that too.

Ah well.

Just now in Sastasha I was trying to help out by marking targets because nobody else was. The Tank then puts a mark on my head as a target to ignore. So I let the tank die to a trash mob. When he came back I marked him as a target to ignore but I continued to heal and play properly. At the boss he started marking me with target to attack / bind etc. Just being a douche in general. I'm new to this. Its my first MMO and I read on this forum that targets should be marked so why was he acting like that?

I think part of the problem is the state of the game and the gear people have. Even with level synch high ilvl players will steamroll a dungeon. Many of them this is probably the umpteenth time they have run the dungeon and are only there for dailies.

Marking wastes time to them as they want to be over with the dungeon asap. Many will also believe that others should know the dungeon so well by now that it can be done blindfolded.Even dungeons like Stone Vigil and Quarn that have mobs where a specific enemy should die first isn't really needed anymore as the party will easily defeat the mob anyways. I don't mark anything unless its a large open room with multiple mobs. I have only been asked once to mark a targets, and it was from a first timer. I think most people will just watch what the tank attacks first (some don't even wait for that) then just work down the line from there.

People tend to leave out any opening statements, comments, or suggestions at the start of the dungeon. Pug groups in the DF are the worse when it comes to communication. Almost non-existant.

Personally, I feel this is made worse by the fact that save for Expert and High level duty roulettes, you're generally FORCED to work with a PUG just to get your dailys in. SE should seriously change that to allow people to enter with pre-made parties for all duty roulettes IMO.

That said, if I'm ever Tanking a dungeon and the Healer and DPS want me to mark targets I will. I used to do it all the time. I only stopped because most people I work with these days generally just pay attention to what I attack first and go with that. Personally, I don't know why it's so hard for other Tank players I meet in dungeons to have a shred of decency to their manners. You get no where by being a jerk to your party members. TV Tropes even warns readers of this.

I have my own healer horror stories to share, but... word count limit.

Generally, when I tank low-level dungeons, I'll just quickly throw a <1> over whatever target I'm attacking at the moment, particularly if we got the "One or more party members are new" message and/or I'm seeing class icons in the party list.

This, so very much. Honestly, it's just not worth the time and energy to be a jerkbag, and you don't get anything from it other than the momentary satisfaction of having made your datacenter a slightly shittier place to be anyways (which, sadly, for some people, is enough). </preachmode>

The Horror to heal is Angra Mainu WoD first boss if people as always ignore the Mortal Gaze Mechanic (ignore I say because i explain to party and alliance and they still die over n over n over.....) and you just play raising machine and then the few dps alive even ignore adds so your raises get interupted over n over n over........!!!!
Its not that I had already 4-5 wipes at this boss in like 15 runs where I as healer was the last to stand and get pretty pissed when those that caused the wipe ragequit >.<

Marking is not a common thing with experienced players unless there is a particularly important mechanic (e.g. the tank might mark hornets in Qarn to remind the PUG DPS to deal with them before they use their tank-buster attack).

Generally the tank will mark mobs if anyone does since they're prepared to hold aggro on that mob vs. single target DPS. In AoE situations, marks are largely irrelevant, anyway.

Edit: To be clear, players are generally expected to follow common sense guidelines such as focusing on the same mob together unless there is a reason not to (e.g. using the first mob to die as your targeted AoE anchor or SCH/SMN disease vector isn't a great idea). Marks usually go up when players obviously aren't doing it right.

so I decide to do it as whm

get a pld(50) and monk(47)

pld forgot oath for the first pull
monk kept pulling extra mobs, and waking up everything that I slept
3 wipes, on trash
get to first boss and went smoothly

second section,pld tries to go slow, monk pulls half the room
so at this point, I never heal him again
manage to keep pld alive and he manages to pull the mobs of monk before he dies
same thing with the other half of the room

we get to second boss and I stone skin everyone but monk
forgot he did glower, got hit, and then pld turns him on me, gets me cleaved and I die: wipe

monk starts bitching to me about not getting heals
I told him I'm not gonna heal him anymore because he kept pulling everything
he was like "oh you're one of those who would rather bring the party down" then resorted to name calling
someone started a vote kick, he said the pulls were an accident, before I could finish typing "accident, that's why it happened in literally every room", he was kicked
tank leaves

nin joins, and eventually war joins
finish dungeon with no issues

WHM & SCH. "SHIVA EX FARM" ... Warrior Tank... Doesn't dodge & can't hold hate on adds = not a farm.... PF group over.

Anytime I run any low lv DFs now. Many tanks just cant hold hate and my poor EOS takes a beating.

That would completely defeat the purpose of the low level, trial, and story roulettes.

Man, Eos tanks like a champ. When I was farming light on SCH, I'd use her to tank the adds in Garuda HM. Fey Illumination > Whispering Dawn > Place her across the room, keep Sustain up and heal her if needed.

24 man raid... noob tanks not picking up adds... I had to tank them all and constantly healing myself. Can't stop the threats train now...
