Marriage feedback [inofficial Poll]

i think the best thing to do is to burn all threads and posts about politics, sexual orientation and religion to ashes.

please make a forum rule to ban users and delete all posts that might invoke heated politics, sexual orientation and religions discussions.

all these sort of thread did nothing but brings about detriment effects for the community and the company.

Trololo is how I read your post.

We were asked to talk about it by Yoshida himself, and we are talking about it in context of the game. There are a few times when it hits context of real life but those moments have been very brief.

If you cant stomach the discussion that is relevant to the game then just dont join that thread. This thread isnt unique in being heated - every thread has it.

There is nothing wrong with this thread other then being 141 pages.. lol

Laws are not applicable like that. Skyrim has SSM and there are states in the US where SSM is illegal.

Just like killing people in a game doesnt get you sent to jail. No disclaimer has to be made.

Never seen a warning sticker "Contains homosexuals" it would be like "Contains black "people""*, at least in the United States I don't think it would ever go down like that lol. In other countries it may be on the rating sticker - but I doubt it, for the same reason it wont happen on the US rating box.

If by a countries law it requires notice of homosexual content then obviously SE will put it there, but I want to know which country has that..

*(picked first race that came to mind that is subjugated to racism (all races technically are), I have nothing against races different from my own)

I think so, too!

But we're still on the level, where this is just between a player and a NPC.
One step further is when employees of SE actively promote same sex relationships between actual players by doing a wedding ceremony.

So i think it's not a bad idea with the label.

Any kind of marriage in this game will be between player and player. It is a personal thing that a player willingly gets into. Can't say the same thing about clicking on an NPC and then reading more than you bargained for. How private it is, we can't really say until we see it but my guess is it is pretty private outside of the people you invite to the event. Nobody else will be any wiser to it.

FFXIV currently has an ESRB rating of T for Teen.

This means it has alcohol reference, animated blood, language, suggestive themes, and violence. Gay characters or (non-sexual)content also falls into this fold and most games that have it have this rating. At most, the game should have a M rating for Mature (17+) but not because two people of the same sex could possibly get married. It should have it because NPCs are outright making sexual remarks.

Let the appropriate rating entities decide what "warnings" should be on the box. However perhaps the parents themselves should do more research into what games they are buying for their children, if they're that concerned.

Also, at least in the US with the ESRB: "Online interactions not rated by the ESRB". I think MMO marriage might fall into that category, specifically where the system does not restrict players from using a system how they choose. It's the same as using chat or emotes (game systems) to engage in what some might consider "offensive". Within certain bounds you cannot restrict how players use the systems.

Guess it should add other stuff frowned upon in other countries too, right? Stuff that's already in the game.

Contains drinking.

Contains prostitution.

Contains gambling.

Contains homosexual content (it already does in case you haven't noticed. It's all over the place.)

Contains players from other countries that will discuss things that may be forbidden to your own country's laws.

SE can claim all they want about the subject being touchy, but....

Combining thse two, I dont see how a REAL religious person/family would own anything over 'E for everyone'. I dont see how any religious person could even try to bring religion into this topic, I don't think they should be playing the game based on the rating and what is included in the rating. Hell, it will go against 'gods will' once a Lalafel can marry a Miqo'te (said in that order intentionally)... They should all be playing Barney And Friends and let the rest of us go to hell for watching or reading the sexually suggestive anything in anything else, including FFXIV.

Nothing in this game has anything to do with RL religion. 'Praise Jesus' and whatever else doesn't do any good in FFXIV, he/she/it does not exsist here. 'Thank Halone' or something similar is for this world.

If your a total pervert who only think of things in just sexual way then sure in your head it would deem that. If your a person who don't think in terms of everything as being sexual you could interpret those comments a different way as comic relief not in let butt ugly lmfao it not like they added dialogue with the mind set of just sex.

I've seen many cases of being in denial.

Never seen one as bad as this.

You know this is Square Enix we're talking about, right? Have you read any of the NPC dialogue in the game? Have you played their previous games? Did you know that tentacle monsters in the earlier games would only target female characters?

But yea, it must be denial or some form of extreme mental purity. The game has plenty of sexually suggestive conversations with NPCs, no matter what gender you are when you talk to them. If you were to have chosen a male path partner as a male, surely he would had the same sexually suggestive comments with you as my female path parther did with my female character.

To try to pretend that it wasn't there.......... denial for sure, or TL;DR.

I'm pretty sure ARR is going to be FULL of the same suggestive conversations here and there, unless the new team is full of pure-minded homophomes...

Actually only the miqo'te path companion is sexually suggestive. Each race and gender has their own personalities and miqo'te, being the fanservice characters, are given the sexual personality lol.

But yes there are a lot of suggestive comments involving male NPCs across the game too.

I mean it outright says when you view the game "SUGGESTIVE CONTENT".

The game tells you before you even experience it "hey there is sexual shit in this".

Dunno how I didn't see this earlier. I guess my brain is developing an immunity to ignorance and makes me unable to see it.

Do you work for the government of one of those oppressed countries that kick people down when they have opinions on things? Those governments aren't doing so well lately.

Any discussion can be negative. People rage over each other about loot. Wait until housing comes out and people complain that it's too expensive and people continue bitching at each other and insulting each other over that.

Doing searches for "A Realm Reborn" on google, several news articles come up regarding the game. Not so much the game itself, but the fact that "same sex marriage is a maybe". What are people saying about that? Some people are getting annoyed. Edit: That Square Enix didn't decide to implement it straight away.

When SWTOR originally objected to the idea of same-sex marriage there was a firestorm. Once word got out about that the developers had to immediately change their stance. They had absolutely no choice in the matter.

Actually the female Hyur companion I had used the same script.

The beauty of the phrase "suggestive themes" is that it's fairly vague and can cover a lot of things. So instead of having a mile long list of all the things one might find offensive, it's all combined under "suggestive".

To add to my last post before someone comes in and takes what I said completely wrong, I want to add some more perspective to the situation.

There are not many people in the XIV community compared to other communities.

There are far fewer people involved in the XIV forums.

The snapshot of the forums' opinions with this thread show an overwhelming majority in favour of same-sex marriage. This game's direct competition supports and includes same sex marriage.

When game news sites start getting a hold of this sort of information and things like "Square Enix decided not to include same-sex marriage into A Realm Reborn", that shitstorm is going to escalate just like it did for other companies. Square Enix does not need a shitstorm. I completely agree that they need to focus on making this a good game and this is a silly thing to hurt the game BUT THE FACT OF THE MATTER IS IT WILL. It was a poor choice for Yoshida to give the answer he did regarding that question and PR should of pressed about it a bit more, but what can you do now that it's done.

I'm sure ARR will be great and I have faith in it but in this day and age, regardless of how much people want to ignore it, politics are just gonna get involved in games like these. They're not just games. They're social communities, and so long as society as a whole is generally flowing down one direction, the games must generally conform to those flows. Sad but true.

And once again, he should have just added in marriage with SSM and just said 'Players can marry each other now' and been done with it. He wouldn't even need 'feedback', it would just be there. I don't even think they plan to have it 'GM style', and I hope not because it will be all so much more easier for them to just 'put it in' that way.

Direct definition of suggestive themes by the Entertainment Software Rating Board:

While provocative can mean "to rouse anger" the most common definition is to deliberately cause sexual interest or desire through innuendo/metaphor, especially if that is what is written on the game. I think the amount of people who would leave over this on either side of the camp is borderline non-existent. Most of this thread is based on the general disappointment on their choice to keep it opposite gender only or others stating they prefer it the way Yoshi-P has is planned to be. Almost nowhere are threats that people will quit.

As for the bolded, this is actually not the case. The player base is very involved in the development of the game and this is no exception, he even asked for our opinion.

I never said there were threats that people would quit, I simply stated my opinion on the subject, that people who didn't like which decision was made could easily go play another game, or grin and bear it.

And yes, the playerbase is important, and of course their opinion is welcome. But my point was that in the end Yoshi would be the one to make the decision he so chooses for the game.

Not really that much "off" considering some of the posts I've read.

And his wording tells me that he values our opinions a lot, yet the ultimate decision will be his.

I feel like the controversial matter that same-sex marriages shouldn't happen, is best to be left outside a Fantasy game. It's fantasy and such rules don't have to apply because it's not the same dimension as the real world. To me it's really silly to contemplate that people can't let go and enjoy themselves in a game without striking out at a silly in-game object that doesn't affect them at all in the little bit. It's not like people are going to force others into watching them get married in a game. There's a choice here people, but oh god, no, it's a sin!

Well, for me, here's my issue. I would not force my significant other(who is a male) to play male character just to wed him. We have sat idly as two female characters for a bit, and I would just enjoy the thought of finally not being shafted because my nerdy SO likes to watch a female's behind when it runs on screen. I just wish people would leave real world drama to outside gaming. I want to have my nerdy girly moment with my so in game. ; . ; I am sorry.
