If the criticism is constructive, absolutely. Otherwise, if the solution wasn't obvious to them to begin with, just saying "ur bad at this" isn't going to change anything.
Whether or not they're open to feedback is a different conversation. But unhelpful declarations are a great way to decrease the odds that they will be lol. In my experience, most people just say "thank you" when a mechanic they didn't understand is explained to them, or they silently do better on their next attempt if they don't have time to type. Of course there are exceptions, though, and not every issue is a mechanical one, strictly speaking. ┐(*˘_˘)┌
I don't think any of us should feel like we have to hold a struggling player's hand all the time, but unconstructive criticism isn't helpful or cathartic for anyone but the one exclaiming it lol.
Hey, if we don't sin, Jesus died for nothing.
Senor Sabotendor should be a Gold Saucer unlockable costume, along with his weird little dance. :3
Old man hot take here:
It is a sin that Bard’s melee auto-attack was removed and nobody remembers it anymore. Bards used to be able to throw punches at enemies that got too close. Back in the day I punched Nael Van Darnus in the head as a Bard, pfft who needs a Monk lol.
Also I’m still bitter about losing my Conjury spells from back then too lol, but that’s a much spicier take about what Bards should be.
I mean, there's the Shroud of Turin that the Vatican swears was the one used to bury Jesus but they won't let anyone touch it to actually test it for anything. All it could possibly offer anyways would be if there's any descendants but I doubt that any DNA pulled from it would be conclusive of divine origins.
I think it's not that spicy.
A lot of BRD players want SE to play more into the supporter class fantasy again. When you look at what Bards traditionally are in other games, they've always heavily leaned into support and FFXIV did it once as well and attracted the kind of players that are neither into actual healers nor pure dps. And the other side, that just wants a dedicated all out bow pewpew dps is also unhappy because BRD just... isn't that. Think more of Sniper, Hunter, Zen Archer etc.
BRD is just neither and people from both sides are displeased.
From what I remember it was around the alpha or early beta SE decided to take Bard (well Archer lol since it capped at level 15 in the one and only dungeon) the ‘dps’ direction instead of support. In that old version of Bard it has a ton of support; in particular most of its archery inflicted status ailments on the enemy rather than the pure DoT focus we have now (though I think Venomous Bite was still there). That’s not covering additions support through healing, the occasional Protect / Stoneskin if someone died or whatever, and even Raise which couldn’t be used in battle.
Then as you say, it was received extremely poorly for one reason or another (the animations were for Archer/Bard were so poorly received they had to redo them all by decoupling top and bottom on character models lol),and quickly swapped out for the DoT focused, pure physical, Lancer/Pugilist cross-classing Archer that we have today. I mean it’s not like I desperately hate the version we have now but I still miss the old version(s) lol. Now there’s nowhere to escape if you don’t want to be a pure dps lol
Dragoon has too many damage boosting abilities that just adds to its buttom bloat.
I play FFXI and Bard is a really good Support DD job, able to use Daggers and Swords, I seen some amazing damage from bard players

here is my DNC fighting Fenrir <3
Ranger is the job that uses Bows but they can also guns ( marksmanship) as well as other weapons

isn't it nice that FFXI jobs have alot of depth and can use more than one weapon than xiv jobs?
RNG ( Ranger is an amazing job, and it should of been properly in xiv instead of this hybrid bard thing)
Alright, actual hot takes...
- SMN existing as it currently does is a good thing and it far better represents the legacy of the job to how Summoning behaved in the Famicon to PS1 era as well as any time Summoner appeared as a job in the good FF games, SMN changing from what it was to what it is now was a bad thing because it messed up people who liked the old SMN, those two are not mutually exclusive things, ideally both versions would exist together.
- Job complexity should never be accounted for when balancing damage output, playing complex jobs like BLM should be its own reward because you find their gameplay engaging, not to mention "complexity" is relative and no two people will feel the same way about every job, in an ideal world, every job should be within a margin of error of each other, though admitedly its a feat easier said than done.
Stormblood showed us picking a side... although we already have done that. Shadowbringers and Endwalker lean a lot into the anime tropes, beating enemies with the power of friendship and having enemies become friends. Somehow this makes people create memes about Stormblood being pro-war because killing a bunch of people and forgiving (mass) murderers like Zenos or bird girl is apparently a sane way of acting according to the playerbase at large.
Y'shtola is mid
I don't care how good its personal dps is, DRK is the worst tank. Might as well let the DRG do it
(had a chain of bad DRKs all night, let me vent lol)
Here's a Y'shtola hot take then, I adore Y'sh, but without a single ounce of attration to her, she works best as the "team mom" for the Scions(sexualization of the term "mommy" completely disregarded for this statement), and the fact she canonically views the WoL AND Runar as younger siblings, made clear by the comparison of them to Lyse, is genuinely great.
In fact I am not attracted to any of the Scions, but I still adore them all in their own way.
I feel like the new 24 man downplays and trivializes the importance Loiusoix had, and almost mocks his character. "Oh, he summoned the twelve to try to save Eorzea? Well they weren't the real twelve lmao what a loser". Like wtf.
Didn't Gaius call this out as far back as ARR? to quote our man...
He wasn't *fully* correct, as his belief was that the Twelve didn't exist at all and were merely fabrications of faith like any other Primal, but he was completely right that the Twelve Louis summoned were Primals, and this serve to highlight the racism and hypocrisy of Eorzea towards the Beast Tribes, Gaius would've been completely shallow as a character if he was wrong, so to me it was always clear that he was right on the money.Quote:
Are the "Twelve" otherwise engaged? I was given to understand they were your protectors. If you truly believe them your guardians, why do you not repeat the trick that served you so well at Carteneau, and call them down? They will answer--so long as you lavish them with crystals and gorge them on aether. Your gods are no different than those of the beasts--eikons every one.
The raid series also doesn't paint Louis as a "loser" for "failing to summon the real Twelve" at all, quite the opposite, Azeyma considered this feat to be a representation of humanity's hope and faith due to how this allowed them to survive a Calamity.
Primals based on other beings have literally never been those beings. Shiva wasn't the original Saint Shiva, Thordan wasn't the original King Thordan. Why would the Twelve called by Louisoix be any different?
My hot take is if you're going to impose a strict no third-party tool rule, then get rid of dps checks on fights. How can I tell if I'm putting out the most dps that I can if I have no way of checking it?
I hate when you get to the point during Tribe Quests when you turn in 2-out-of-3 of your dailies and you rank up your reputation (I think it's usually Respected). You just wasted 30 points and you still have a daily to turn in after you complete the rank up quest. Why not instead of 990, make it 1200? You'd still complete it if you did all the turn-ins. (◎ヮ◎)
I hate Ystola, like I understand she's the poster girl for xiv, but so is shantotto and she wasn't around the WoL in FFXI all the time.
what I love about FFXI in every expansion is that you meet someone new, new people on your journey and when the expansion arc is over, they go their separate ways, you do sometimes see them in other expansion cutscenes but that's it
sorry Im tired of seeing the scions every damn expansion, especially Ystola and her dry character.
I also loved that the story in FFXI wasnt about ME!, it was about other characters, like you are important , the story tells you straight up but its the other characters like lilisette or Lady Iroha
https://media.discordapp.net/attachm...202&height=676
lilisette, i love her character and WOTG was my favorite storyline
https://media.discordapp.net/attachm...202&height=676
arciela, story protagonist in Final Fantasy XI: Seekers of Adoulin
https://media.discordapp.net/attachm...202&height=676
Lady iroha
also the great thing about the storyline in ffxi i wasn't getting praised for every single thing i do like in ffxiv, its very annoying
