Joking aside, I feel like FFXIV team is being rushed or something. Only thing that could explain so many things being limited or cut.
Yoshida's already given us the "no current plans" newspaper bap on the nose so I doubt BLU will get fixed. I'm also doubting male viera will get addressed until people start asking about it at Q&A's as people have stated more people seem to care about cosmetic changes than actual gameplay changes.
YES PLEASE
I am fully against this unless they nerf BLU in the following manner:
1) Make everything in every single dungeon immune to "Magic Missiles" and "Tail Screw". (Some bosses aren't)
2) Make "Mighty Guard" a 6 second duration with a 6 minute cooldown along the lines of "Hallowed Ground" and the WAR and DRK equivalent. (If it's DPS, it should NOT replace tanks.)
3) Make their self-buffs each share the same CD.
4) Make "Self-Destruct" have a 6 minute CD, similarly to "Hallowed Ground". (A single BLU can kill the ENTIRE first room of AV with this. And they can use it again immediately upon raise.)
5) Heavily nerf "White Wind" to be negligible, like Physick on a SMN, or put it on a cooldown. (A DPS should NOT be replacing a proper healer.)
6) All their AoEs should deal increasingly less damage to different targets in a group. 100% on the first, 85% on the second, 75% on the third, and 50% to the rest.
7) Put their big nukes on cooldowns like primal abilities have, or give them a flat damage reduction.
If they aren't nerfed I don't want them anywhere near the core population in DF.
You might as well just ask for it to be completely reworked. Honestly? I'm over BLU at this point, I've come to terms with the fact that regardless it's just too much work for the devs to do anything about they'd have to completely rework the content from the ground up which would undoubtedly take up as much time as a new job, and lord knows people would riot if that were the case.
I've heard about the "duty set" for BLU but even that to me would just be a watered down version of what we have, which isn't even BLU in it's current form. So I think for the most part BLU will continue to exist as this for the remainder of XIV's lifespan unfortunately.
I haven't played in a few months now, and I officially un-subbed a little while ago. I understand the outrage of various camps recently, but for me my breaking point is that I simply do not wish to play the game while a long-time series staple is restricted from even playing the same game as the other jobs.
I really and truly needed a long break from this game anyway, and this is not an...unsub protest plea, I genuinely don't feel I have any interest in coming back until I can do so as a Blue Mage. It's been a wonderful ride these years and if this is where I get off for good, so be it, I think.
I feel it's going to be a long war for those who remain. I'm sorry. I'm honestly looking forward to Bravely Default 3, that's probably going to be the next iteration of some kind of blue magic that's far more respectful than this, uh..."modern" FFXIV version. Check out Final Fantasy Explorers too, seriously. It's underrated and Blue Mage was cool there.
I'll check back every once in a while. You all have my eternal support.
Whelp Folks, its seems good old Yoshi P has noticed the Viera screeching before us, it's been an honour campaigning alongside you all, but I think BLU is done.
Someone can correct me, and disappoint me if wrong (lol), but I imagine part of it is the response to blue mage was not as violent as male Viera. There were threats (I didn't see many, but I saw a few), many insults, and calls for firing, as well as contacting devs including Matsuno for the genderlock issue.
Not saying Yoshi-P has to do what we want but hopefully he'll give us time of the day when he has a chance, and perhaps be more eager to do so in that it wasn't as violent a response (yes I admit many were unhappy or did the classic "I'll quit" but it, imo to me, didn't look as nearly caustic). Also just want to add I've seen quite a few people upset about the genderlock and be great sports about it, detailing how they're upset and what they'd like to see and not calling anyone names at the same time (don't want the good eggs to feel like I discounted them, I like you :P).
I think it'd be wise to keep a slow burn on request blue mage advanced job/unlimit, and when the appropriate Q&A options pop up use that too (don't ask the environment art team why blue mage is limited, for example lol).
Yeah, the BLU discussion has been pretty civil outside of some calling the Devs lazy or out of touch for the BLU implementation (from what i've seen/ remember, there may well be more aggressive responses). For the most part its just been brainstorming how it could work unlimited, and arguing amongst ourselves as to what constitutes overpowered abilities.

Still wishing for some sort of comment from the devs about BLU. Or even their reasonings behind making it so limited.
But it seems like glamour/character looks is more important than actual gameplay..
Obviously we must begin spamming threads and harassing the development staff!(Obvious sarcasm) Either way yeah there's not much more we can do with what we have right now, if anyone is planning on going to any fanfestivel maybe bring it up, but I doubt even there we'll get anything more than "NO CURRENT PLANS"
Through a process of elimination, analysing SE's stance and what they said, and addressing the core of the matter, there are only a couple of answers. One of which is simply a lack of commitment (to not say something else) on SE's part.
And to be honest, when people were patronising others by saying that they have to be "respectful" and present a sensible argumentation, leaving "constructive" criticism, and that it was the only way to get "properly" noticed. It really goes to show how short-sigthed and ludicrous it is to say that, when after people "violently" protested they get noticed.
To others who might be reading this, let me be frank, I'm sorry but Square Enix is in no way in the "right". And if you think their stances are reasonable you are only fooling yourselves. They're a business, they want money they don't want your friendship or cordial words.
Yes you can be friendly or cordial to them if you want, but understand that it ultimately doesn't matter. It doesn't mean people have to be throwing insults at them 24/7, but at least take with a grain of salt what they're saying and be critical about it.
Nevertheless the fight for BLU isn't over until every last one of us is defeated.
So, the mr happy interview just came out and Yoshi has spoken about BLU.
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...uI/mobilebasic paraphrased, he said that they are going to add "hardcore" content for BLU to do later so he doesnt want to talk about BLU again until then.
Whats you guys' opinion on this, for me im not convinced, giving BLU its own "hardcore" content doesnt really address my core issues with BLU, having some hard fights for it doesnt take away from the fact that once youre done with it, youre done, you cant main BLU, or experience the rest of the game with it. Thoughts?
I really just want a "Limited Job Duty Finder" option, seems a sensible thing to get down, given they said we'd get more Limited Jobs in the future (or maybe that'll be cancelled now). Don't let Limited Jobs play with regular ones outside premades, sure whatever, just give people the option to queue up as Blue Mage to get into content with other Blue Mages (heck, regular Jobs could still be put in with Blue Mages if they tic a box similar to the "Join in Progress" on for this kind of thing). We should, for example, be able to queue Leveling Roulette as Blue Mage. The Duty Finder just matches us with other Blue Mages (and future Limited Jobs) for it, rather than the regular party setup. It's at least something to do with the Job...
That's the single biggest change I want for Blue Mage at this point. New "hardcore" content? Eh... Depends entirely on what it is, and what the rewards are... I do like the idea of group based Masked Carnival content, or even Blue Mage specific PvP (1v1 I imagine, with it functioning like 2.0/3.0 PvP, rather than using the changed system 4.0 introduced), but ultimately I can't see them putting anything behind it that would give it longevity, though I say the same thing about the actual endgame content in this game, so what do I know... Heck, I don't even touch Roulettes these days, so why do I even want a Blue Mage option for them? I'd say it'd be fun, but I honestly think Masked Carnival is too, but interest in that fizzled out fast all the same...
Scratch that, new suggestion; Go all in with Limited Jobs. The whole idea was that they'd be hard to balance and ridiculously OP in some scenarios, know what else that's often said about? Gear with interesting stats. Let Blue Mage go out and obtain gear with stats like "Enhances 1000 Needles", or "Increases Stun duration", stuff that would make it even more ridiculous. Like I said, go all in. At least it would be something to work towards with the Job. Right now it seems to be a case of getting all the spells, then asking yourself if you care about Allied Seals and Poetic tomestones... Collecting the spells was probably the best aspect of the Limited Job, apply that to gearing it as well. Lord knows that "Oh there are only 3 weapons?" moment was disappointing. Heck, give the Job its own Relic style quest... For a Relic weapon that is actually absurdly OP and exciting to get, rather than the throwaway glamour pieces we're used to...
Blue Mage really doesn't need more content to do, it needs more reason to do anything with it... We already have plenty we can do with it, just no real reason to do any of it...
As I said on the other thread.
To me it really just looks like revisiting what had been said. They changed from using "balance" as an excuse to actually telling us that they want to "Wait and see what happens with the new content".
Again, compared to what Yoshida has been saying in his interviews, it actually is a big change. I think that they're at least thinking of changing its course.
So don't give up Rei!
Although I'm still skeptical of what they say, it's not the first time they would go back on their word. So there is still a possibility for a functional BLU, we just need to keep showing our interest.
I see the slightest glimmer of hope there too, but my understanding is that it'll be from 5.2 on at the absolute earliest, as we need to give our feedback to their "hardcore content" and them reflect upon it. I do find it a little insulting that everything else in that interview he was able to talk freely about and give some in depth answers, but Blue Mage he shut down and basically said "don't talk to me about it until after we've dug more of a hole for ourselves."
I guess I know when to start caring about FFXIV again. 5.2, 5.3 maybe?
blu can help out level 60 after the cap increase.
i would say they need to change the way the pf version works a bit, and 20 levels behind is a bit low.
i think they need to tweak the way limited jobs work a bit.
1)They should get 10 levels behind content
2)Be able to PF almost all content they have the level for
3)They should add a max levelsync to the min level sync option.
4)create mid range goals for limited jobs (a reason to spend time with the job)
saying wait and see, and nothing happening is not going back on his word. I think you need to manage your expectations. All he is really saying is, i want to see peoples reactions/data on the full implementations before they decide anything major like the future of limited jobs.
As I said, I'm skeptical.
However, saying "Let's wait and see" is still quite a bit different from saying something akin to this:
Which as I've been saying, it MAY lead to a change in direction.Quote:
Naoki Yoshida: The Blue Mage is only able to acquire balance because it is what we now call a “limited job,” and there are no plans to remove the limited aspect from the job.
Yeah. As usual it's very generic, as it has always been as I've said when I made my thread that they're trying to keep it as vague as possible. The interviews simply confirm that they knew that their decisions (not just BLU) weren't going to be accepted smoothly. They're still digging their own graves and only now are they openly saying that MAYBE digging further might not be what they should be doing.
Who knows about the future. Maybe the expansion after Shadowbringers we'll have something? I won't be here for 5.2 so I can only watch.
The most exciting thing about the response in the interview is that Yoshida stated he'd be looking at BLU feedback after the next batch of content is released.
Given the rest of the interview seems he and the team are a little bit overwhelmed by feedback about so many things that they've been working on recently, I can imagine that our initial responses to BLU haven't been fully read through yet (Or they have and they still want to see if the new content helps alleviate some concerns)
Still, it's no definite answer that BLU is going to become a real job and it also isn't particularly likely at this stage to be considered.
It is however, interesting to note that they ARE going to be making decisions based on feedback to this content (As opposed to sticking to the road map they created a few months back irregardless of community opinion).
In addition, Yoshida also noted that they were interested in balancing the number of jobs available across roles as a major factor in DNC being a physical rDPS (Putting us to 4 Tanks, 4 mDPS, 3 rDPS, 3 casters and 3 healers) - Thus if this trend continues then it means that we'd be looking at getting a new caster eventually. In which, BLU would make sense if it was unlimited (Given how much effort they would have put into the class for things like the level 60 push coming in 5.1/2 as well as anything else they add during ShB. Though it was mentioned that Yoshida didn't think BLU would hit level 80 before the end of ShB)
So, hopefully, if we keep our (Ram's) voices heard maybe we'll be able to get Yoshida to consider making the job properly. Despite how good this "Hardcore" content may or may not be (Inb4 it gets cheesed by Self Destruct/Final Sting)
The fact that he said there are 3 casters just makes me sad. BLU isn't even considered a job in Yoshi-P's own words. I find it saddening that a classic FF staple is treated that way. Regardless, I will look to this "new hardcore" content with a mostly unbias view. But part of what I understood from that answer is that if the ShB BLU content fails, BLU might finally have a chance at being a job. I don't want to sandbag their efforts with the limited thing, but I also kind of want to.
But what I get from this all, from limited BLU to races, to a whole beast tribe just being an already existing asset and all the other stuff that has happened over stormbloood and into shadowbringers is a lot of cutting corners. I feel like the 14 teams is being rushed or hindered from doing things fully. It was already said earlier that both BLU and mahjong were basically pet projects worked on outside of the normal dedicated dev time.
Yeah, with the recent poor design choices SE has made, it's important to hold them accountable. The age-old excuse of "lack of resources" or "not enough time" isn't acceptable. SE is a multi-million dollar company that has been in the industry for decades. They are not a small indie company that is trying to make do with the little that they have.
It's very clear that a large portion of the community is unhappy with the implementation of BLU, not to even get into the genderlock controversy. Respect your players and their feedback.
i've spoken my peace about blu on the dps class discussion, but for the record i'll be very dissapointed if blu never gets made into a real job
I'm not really a fan of him saying "hardcore" content for a solo job. That either means it's going to be group content again, or it's going to be like Palace of the Dead challenge floors. Group content is frustrating especially if you can only do it with BLUs since a party of 8 BLUs can hardly do Hard Mode Primals. Average players anyway. If it's like Palace of the Dead challenge floors then I definitely wont do it. Not about that life no matter what spell they throw behind it.
My only experience comes from a few Titan Hard Mode trials where the BLU tank was getting one or two shot by Titan even with one Blue spamming White Wind. Different BLUs in different parties to. Maybe that's changed or maybe it hasn't. I haven't touched BLU since I got all my spells for it sadly.
Honestly, I want to do BLU content because I have nearly nothing to do until the expansion.
I'am lvl 50, got every spell before lvl 50. So, I have half of the spells.
But I don't want to wait in pf and struggle with RNG for getting the other half.
I don't want to to blue carnival (did only 1st mission) with half of the spells (130 potency everywhere not fun).
So, I'am blocked.
I have said it before, I was for how SE wanting to implement BLU in the game, but after one week to spam the same spells and seeing the promises not kept (solo & overpowered job), I changed my mind and changed of side.
You can keep the learning spells method in the overworld for special jobs like BLU, but I don't want any more limited job.
Implement BLU as a normal job (for 6.0). I know it's possible. Let's be creative SE !
You got my support, I've been wanting this class in the game since the game lunched, and SE thought It'd be funny to fuck over one of the most popular jobs that they've ever made? Lol it pisses me off to no regard that it made it past beta testing like this. You would think one of the 5 people working of the ff14 team would speak up but no. Guess they really need that pay check that month. And from the looks of it they keep fucking up, and if they don't start fixing shit like the players are telling them too. Well...we might not have a game to be complaining about anymore, after all people are already leaving in droves. Sometimes it takes more then an exspanion to bring them back.
Hate to break it too you, but the masked carnival doesn't get any better with the RNG skills, most carnival fights are beaten with the moonflute, off guard, toad oil, pec light, bristle self destruct wombo combo. Having Song of Torment and the primal skills might make it a bit quicker, but the fights are a joke anyway.
at its present state...i rather have it squadrons & POTD. To me its to weak for Raids & the duty finders. i mean it dies in unsynced extreme trials. If the make it a regular full time jobs...then i will support the raids & duty finder cause.
