I mean, its as bad as the Sword argument, I've seen them both used quite a bit and it is just a bit silly really.
But both arguments can be won at the same time if RDM is DPS and SAM is tank.

Best bet is like I said just wait till tomorrow night, if RDM is announced as a DPS I strongly believe SAM will be a tank, providing it gets teased, if RDM is announced healer though.. I don't want it but SAM might end up with the DPS slot and Tanks would get the original job if they do that again and if you count AST as an original.

AST is not a original job, it is more or less just the time mage with an other name and slight different mechanics according to his role and the game design in ffxiv, like DRK gets altered to fit in his role.

To me RDM will be a kind of spell fencer/spell blade with some magic support to balance with BRD/MCH physical support

Yoshida Senpai! 24th of December, come with Rurouni Kenshin t-shirt to hint samurai tank! Samurai tank would be the best and gives variation of playstyles when choosing a Tank job. I talked to a lot of people that do not visit the forums but I know most ppl I atleast know also want Samurai as a Tank! I guess we find out tomorrow and if not, EU fanfest but fanfest JP would be the perfect opportunity to hint Samurai cos Japan!

B-but what does Rurouni Kenshin have to do with being a tank? That's like the least tanky example you could have possibly given considering he never wears any armor at all. Hell, that'd fit more with dps than anything else.

Like...Mitsurugi from Soul Calibur or Yoshimitsu from Tekken (and also Soul Calibur, yes, I know) are way better examples of tank-ish looking Samurai. Either way, unless his shirt literally had a picture of a samurai followed by "+" followed by a picture of a tank, I'm not sure how wearing a shirt with a samurai on it could be a confirmation for any role. Red Mage is all but confirmed and we still don't even know what role that's going to be.

I realize I'm arguing over semantics here. I just find these...wonderful leaps in logic (on both sides of the debate, mind you) to be fascinating.

@Galaktica, Rurouni Kenshin is like a tank and I will tell you why: his blade does damage, but it's not deadly like a tank! His sword is basically not sharp lol And while he may have light armor gear, I think samurai may become a Dodge tank.

Soon as I saw this your argument just went out the window. You should NEVER EVER do a dodge tank. They never work. You can't have a tank that relies on dodging because then it comes down to pure RNG and if you have bad RNG you just keep taking large amounts of hits compared to the other tanks which are not RNG and comes down to how you use your cooldowns. SAM would never get picked for groups for being so RNG based.

Dodge/counter tank, where standard mitigation CDs still exist, but an arsenal of skills and abilities that proc off of dodge and parry. Abilities that guarantee parry/dodge/etc for a certain duration. Abilities that mitigates off of parry/dodge chance. (ie, 75-95% dodge chance = 30% mitigation, example only, numbers needs work for balance)

Thematically, you're dodging or "parrying" but just avoid the brunt of the blow but still took a small hit. The major differences and uniqueness of dodge/parry/counter tank would be the arsenal of abilities and skills that are reactionary triggers requiring player skills in focus and key press.

So based from your description of Rurouni Kenshin, a spinoff clone of Kenpachi (bleach)? Which will just confirm Sam and still too vague to hint a role assignment.

Meh, dodge tank... Just stick with a parry/counter tank preference. Many have explained why with valid points.

If SAM is coming, this petition is null and void because the devs have already decided long ago and have already mostly developed it. Just wait until EU fanfest and enjoy the ride, because nothing in this thread will change anything.

I would be happy with SAM being anything, but what I think is irrelevant at this point because the content has already passed the point of no return.
