So anyone else tired of grinding tomes weekly for gear?

Personally, I don't want tome grinds, I want new game + or something similar that lets us reroll our character, name and all, and play through on them again with all the mounts / pets / class levels in place. Then in that mode let us get unique armor and weapons from dungeons. It's also a good way to resolve the inventory problem they have by simply converting all the stuff we got in inventory into either Gil or special currency, and have maybe a box for keeping specific gear that we want to keep like foestriker / cavalry armor / etc that we've spent time farming up and isn't craftable.

While in real Life it is "money", you can easily compare it with ingame and gear progression. I post this because it seems Square Enix is too focused on the carrot hanging from the line...

I used to ocd about having my tomes capped every week, now I can't remember the last time I ran anything for tomes. Bring back FC teamwork (Sky,sea,dynamis) !

I don't care much for tomes, but then again I haven't experienced any alternatives (like FFXI's dungeons) so I guess I wouldn't know what I'm missing.

I do, however, positively LOATHE gathering scrips. Crafting, sure, I can turn them all out in a sitting. But running all over the map to gather at certain times makes me want to light a dog turd in a bag and throw it on SE's porch. It is so very, very frustrating and not fun at all.

I just wait till Tiny Axolotls are the turn-in and spam those cause I find fishing enjoyable. It's especially tasty if they're starred.

Alternatively, if you have 1 or 2 other Legendary nodes starred you can finish in like 2 hours tops.

Except... I didn't say that Yasuhiro was the one making that kind of comment. Let me break it down again, since I must not have been clear enough the first time.

Yasuhiro said they felt that criticizing comments made by other people as having been made with rose-tinted glasses was unfair. He or she felt they were unfair criticisms because he or she was having an good experience as a new player in ~2016.

I'm not sure that a new player in ~2016 is in the best position to judge whether those criticisms are unfair. My reasoning for that (laid out in more detail in the previous post), is that the new player experience in ~2016 has very little in common with the player experience (new or otherwise) from ~2006. The game has evolved significantly.

Additionally, I feel they're in a bad position to make that judgment when the people who are making that criticism are frequently people who did play in ~2006.

I hope that clears up any possible ambiguity, but let me know if it's still not clear what I'm saying.

Cause i'm resurrecting this thread to add and say this:

I have come back to this game after a 2-3 month break, but because of the design of expert roulette and tomes, I doubt I will resubscribe.

Since 2013, when this game released I have been doing expert roulette.

This is the only solid method to obtaining tomes, and I have very low motivation to do it, which means i'm very unlikely to resubscribe.

Imagine, if every single dungeon in the entire game gave half the tome reward as the two "expert roulette" dungeons.

Sastasha level 15 dungeon gave 50 Poetics, 40 Lore, 25 Scipture
Sohm Al Hard level 60 gave 100 Poetics, 80 Lore, 50 Scripture


Imagine how "undead" all the "old" content would be.

People wouldnt mind doing old content. It would be rewarding and you could always accomplish 2 tasks at once, allowing players to do more content besides expert.

People with limited time could do things other than expert roulette
and
People with a lot of time would never have to do expert roulette.


Why in the world of Hydaelyn Earth Universe of Vana'diel Eos, Gaia is the only viable option to obtain tomes expert roulette, and all the other content driven to death by lack of reward?!

Makes zero sense tome... (i just typo'ed that instead of saying "to me" but I think it fits so i'm not going to fix it.)




Not only would giving tomes to all dungeons mean people actually have options, content doesnt die,

but when story content is released youre not forced to do it day one to unlock expert roulette so you can start getting tomes again,

which allows you to do story content on your own time/leisure.


All the people I enjoyed party'ing with also have a "FFXI" mindset and have all quit the game, leading me to basically have to play solo.

I do like the Normal>Hard>Extreme>Savage style though. Just dont like the "tome" set up.

I'm an old FF XI player myself.

Things like savage and others are basically the equivalent to sky and sea and so on.

The difference between the 2 games is for the longest time on XI all those end game things like sky and sea and stuff all the gear was still relevant from them. You didn't have to grind out new gear every time a new expansion came out.

With how XIV is set up with each major new patch and each expansion that comes out you need to grind out new gear which to be honest can be a real pain if you are not able to get on a whole ton. What I think they need to do is put in a quest line similar to the one that was done in XI where you could upgrade your af1 and af2 gear to make them relevant again after ther raised the level cap and put in the ilvl component.

In XI it was also easier to gear multiple jobs. Having a system where you can level cap every job and then putting such heavy restrictions on gear and then outdating that gear super fast after makes zero sense to me.

No offense ...In conclusion to your old thread, sorry if I sound sarcastic. Any answer that maybe given may not suit people who want it easy. The only draw back really to farming is that we have a weekly limit, a nice alternative would be to do a type of raid. O.o Wait you can get gear that is some what similar to tome gear? Where? In the new raid, it is also a once a weak reward, and an alternative to tomes in case you don't want to grind. Oh wait, you have to depend on RNG and hope no one else wants it? That doesn't seem fair. I guess crafting is an option. Wait Crafting is expensive and also a grind? wow hmmm darn MMO have become so complicated why can't it be like the good old days and just hunt and get a drop. What is that? you can hunt, get seals, and get gear that it's not as powerful? Dang it's a different type of grind now...hmmm I know treasure maps? Dragon skin for treasure dungeon...wait, what? it's based on luck to unlock doors , must reach the bottom ,and not die to make it worth it? Darn is there an easier way? Why is this so difficult? It's not like other MMO's out there..wait...really? See were I am going with this? We are all tired but is part of the game, it's not for everyone, hey maybe you can find someone that can do it for free and get you the gear? What's that. player's aren't that nice? Well that is no fun either. By the way FFXI was a lot harder and it's still active.People still complain about it. But hey it's only a game.
