About 3.374% more doops (from GCDs/weaponskills) if you use the 1-fracture-a-minute rotation.
If you want the short of my take on it: the amount is surprising, but it was necessary.

Just checked these prelim notes to see if it would bring me out of my hiatus...always exciting to see buffs to your class when you're not expecting anything. Hopefully the content this time around will keep my interest more.
I like it, and must say that I never expected it too (I consider the class to be in a pretty good place right now). It makes me wonder if SE wanted us to be the best melee dps to compensate for our lack of utility.
firstly, im back to answer all the random questions again for the monk community!
second, after the rather quick theorycrafting i did, the buffs to monk will increase our dps by ~35 at ilvl 210, so its a really nice buff.
What order to get gear do you guys think is the best for this patch? I'm talking about both Midas Normal and Tomestones.
Man, I haven't even looked at the gear yet... Ugh, I got a lot to catch up on.
there isnt a single piece of i240 gear that has both crit and det on it for us this patch, no matter how you look at it, gearing is really going to suck this time around, unless of course your a huge fan of skill speed
I'm upgrading from mostly esoterics gear, so might not be best for everyone, but I'm going for Lore legs first, then head, then body - alongside Prototype Midan Bracelet, Ring and Hands. There is some det lost, but it's hard to juggle accuracy with a mostly full Eso set and trying to use Lore efficiently. The Prototype Midan body piece is good, but I don't think it's worth the 4 week investment, especially when it looks like Hellfire could be BiS
I have a question.
While fighting big enemies who turn a lot (The Aery boss, for example) what is better (or less worse)?
1) Delay ur gcd and run to hit ur skill in right position? Or...
2) Just hit skill as soon as it can be used no matter your position?
Most people don't feel like they're delaying the GCD even when they are, so by that metric, if you can notice the delay it's probably too long for the bonus to pay off.
(Monk problem: not enough punching. Monk solution: more punching.)
edit: I've done a little number crunching on monk this tier and the preliminary readouts say "uh oh". yoshi pls this is not okay ;_;
Man, that is a lot of pieces with SS. Looks like we might be getting some more use out of Purification if the fights are high up time.
We're talking BiS might be a 751 SS set, for one (maybe, I need to check materia more; nonetheless you can't lose drop it from the i245 punchers). Plus the Midas fights are looking like they're jumptastic, which might justify the skill speed, except it doesn't because Greased Lightning isn't an on/off switch and the scaling ain't that good, so the TP savings don't mean much.
In general, it's not usually a good sign when they buff a job without mentioning anything beforehand. I main DRG, that's how my 2.4 progression went....
just messing around with possible BiS, and just estimateing possible accuracy requirements, i've come up with this
http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/SPUL
this is still based on a lot of estimations so chances are its not a final BiS, but its something to look at to start with
general rule is if you have to delay for more than half a second, its not worth it, just take the hit from the position you have available
however, if you have very little skill speed, then you cant even allow for this either due to buffs/debuffs falling off, and should just hit immediately regardless
Im getting crafted gloves and crafted belt. Then next week im going for lore chest and midas legs and maybe a helm and accesory next week since i accidently got a useless lens cus i hate most of the 220 accesories.
My plan, which seems to be working off so far :
Week 1:
Crafted Pieces : Head, Gloves, Waist, Feet
Midas Normal Loot: Bolt Bolt Spring Spring (Neck and Wrist)
Lore : Hold
Week 2 :
Crafted Pieces : None
Midas Normal Loot : Bolt Bolt Spring Spring (Earring and Ring, Pants)
Lore : Body
From there on out, Lore Priority is going be something like : Feet > Earrings > Weapon. (Willing to swap out the Earrings for the Headpiece if I actually have enough Lore, not exactly sure).
Hopefully having Sephirot weapon by this weekend, this means on the second week I'm done with Midas Normal for Progression gear besides the weapon. So I can start gearing up my Summoner.
Updated new buffs on our skills howling fist + demolish. Will start updating again. If anyone can submit a3s and a4s guides for monk will be appreciated just had no luck with group downing those. I will try revisit them now im currently in new group... AGAIN.
The best part of new content is determining whether to Tornado Kick during transitions.
So far, the first capture in A7 is a gigantic pain in the ass with my normal rotation. I have to drop Fracture from my opener in order to refresh GL at the right time, and even then I only have <1s to Snap the doll.
Maybe this is why 3.2 gear is dripping with SS.
Here's how I plan to gear up in 3.2 : http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/ST8E
Not going to call it BIS because I didn't try to maximize weights to get the highest possible. Only tried to minimize Skill speed while shoot for ~680-710 Accuracy. This new gear is going just destroy our TP. Looking back on 3.2 Monk buffs, I would have taken a TP buff over all else. It took me like 30 Minutes to find a build that wasn't 800-900 Skill Speed or 740+ Accuracy.
Honestly, I like how this build looks, my only dislikes are that it relies on Midan Body/Legs. Ugh.. Relying on Drops or 6 Weeks worth of pages. Sounds horrible.
Tome confirmed from A6S, saving that lore for weapon now..
This is probably my ideal crit set: http://ffxiv.ariyala.com/STW4
699 Accuracy, 1085 Critical Hit Rate, 350 Determination, 869 Skill Speed (RIP BRD). If for whatever reason they decide to make the accuracy for the final turn 700+, I can shift around the melds or use Baked Pipira Pira/Urchin Loaf.
That being said, I already foresee how miserable this surge in Skill Speed will be in a prolonged fight. I only have 660 ATM and I'm depleted at 2:30 on a dummy fight. If it becomes too detrimental, I'd just swap the Chest/Leg pieces.
I feel like they want us to only use Purification. Man. I wonder if we can still sustain our tp with 700 tp every 2mins.
I'm trying to get the new MNK stat weights but currently having my spreadsheet spitting out a whole lot of different numbers so I don't have any complete stat weights but all I can say is that DET is valued quite a bit more compared to the current stat weights we're using, this due to a new AA formula where strength is valued less and DET is valued more.
Quick question: no one benefits from our blunt resistance down debuff right? If so then whytf not?
Hi guys updated tips and tricks to A3S and midas normal.
Note: I'm trialing making a video instead of just listing it for you guys. I thought having a visual guide will make things more easier to process. Although I only did this for Midas normal floor 4. This is a monk perspective on the fight with captions. There is no music because when I record in game sounds it captures the rest of my group chatting. I thought I would leave all that out xD. Let me know what you think.
It hasn't "changed" it wasn't right from the beginning. As for where to find it, nowhere as far as I am aware as it hasn't been published.
Old which I believe was used for the current stat weights: (WD/3*AA delay*0.0432544+1)*(STR*0.1027246)*(1+DET/7290)
New one made by Dervy with data provided by me: (WD/3*AA delay*0.0593365489928915+1)*(STR*0.0841892)*(DET/6832.8+1)
Typical. Right after I meld crit materia.
Im confused, is crit still the highest stat weight?
Plugging that new formula into my spreadsheet doesn't change my weights one bit. I am hesitant to publish said weights if only because I wouldn't do that with a DRG formula and the resultant DPS total doesn't look enough higher than DRG to seem plausible to me anyhow.
