And about "it's just another human with animal ears and a tail!" It kinda is, but kinda isn't - it's different enough from what we have to add variety (if it's a Fran-Viera), yet similar enough to attract a portion of the "overused" races' players. I feel like it would be better than a beast race, since 1. obviously people want it, look at this thread; and 2. a large chunk of people always gravitate towards that kind of race...look at Au Ra and Miqo'te. More players would change to (and stay) Viera than they would a Ronso or Bangaa or whatever else, unless maybe it was a lala-sized super-cutesie beast to satisfy that chunk of players. I would rather see a ton of Miqo, Au Ra, Lala, and Viera than it remain a ton of Miqo, Au Ra, and Lala + a handful of other stuff including a small portion of <insert beast race here>.

Personally, just for the sake of making it even more diverse, I'd want them to add both concepts (the short, cute Viera + the FFXII Viera) that they created for FFXIV and have them be separate subraces like Midlander vs Highlander, but that's a lot of work. But that would satisfy the two largest race populations: humanoid with a twist, and cutesies.

How about a vicious moeblob? That's entirely possible if they tweak emotes appropriately. Huge confident swagger, mix of ferocious and cute emotes, and a good VA would do wonders.

I wonder what kind of voice/personality Viera would get..I hope they can find a way to use Fran's voice actress or someone similar for their voices :D

Made interesting observation here: apparently "attractive" design = unoriginal design. Well, I disagree, but you know, opinions are fickle things.
I'm definitely crossing my fingers for viera to become playable in future <3
I'm playing this game partly because I like it's aesthetics, no shame in admitting. "Sexy"/"cute" characters are part of that design. If I wanted to play "western style", "realistic" and "gritty" looking game I would vote with my wallet and give my money to developer who wants to create playable dwarves and more sliders so my 30-something anti-heroic human man PC can have that perfectly broken nose.
That just in not my thing and I don't even want FFXIV to become That.

I reckon we might get an answer soon, if they introduce Viera in the new 24 man raid, then we will know which version we will get. I prefer two have 2 clans, 1 is the Ivalice Viera and the other is the smaller one. If SE is not going to add new faces, horns etc, then they might aswell spend some resource on the new race and make it very good.

Personaly, if I had to pick a type of Viera, then I would pick Ivalice Viera.

If they're going to add Viera, they should be so bestial looking that people will have serious second thoughts about viewing them as (yet more) fetish bait.

That "viera" picture is exactly what they should not look like.

I'd still rather something that looks nothing like the races we have now, though...

I think it'd be cool to get Viera, but only if they're tall and muscular rather than cutesy and petite.

But I'm trying to imagine how they would pull off male Viera since Au Ra have already been released.

Female Viera and female Au Ra would be distinct from one another because of their size difference, but if male Viera were made to be tall and muscular like in the concept art, they'd end up being really similar to male Au Ra. I'm pretty sure the body model for male Au Ra was originally going to be used for male Viera.

And if I recall correctly, Au Ra were created to replace Viera. They couldn't make Viera at the time, so they went with Au Ra. I'm guessing that's why there were so many similarities between the Viera and Au Ra concept art.

But the thing is, male Au Ra kept the same body type as male Viera, whereas female Au Ra steered into another direction. I'm guessing they figured shorter, dainty girl characters would be more popular (and they're right, female Au Ra are the second most commonly played after female Miqo'te). It was a marketing decision, and a smart one at that.

If they were to release Viera in their tall/elegant version, females would be easy to distinguish from other races. But the males would probably end up looking a lot like male Au Ra.

Which leaves me with the fear that, in order to circumvent this, male Viera will be designed to be smaller and cutesy (like an inverse of the Au Ra sexual dimorphism).

Or worse yet, they decide to make both genders cutesy and petite because they know it will attract more players. And if that's the case, I'll be completely uninterested.

Because of the release of Au Ra, I think Viera's chances have been somewhat jeopardized.

Ivalice should mean Viera in Eorzea, that's the first thing I thought when they mentioned it a long time ago, since SE was unable to give us a new race upon release I hope they will a year or so after Stormblood became available!...

For those concerned about the races' similarities, you shouldn't, because SE will most likely give us two clans with hopefully very different looks for Viera, the first one being just like Fran in FFXII and the second clan should be the cute type, this way no one would have an issue with the new race!...

I like the concept art. Not a race I would play personally, but I see the appeal. I wouldn't mind seeing these guys running around, it might break up the monotony of all the cat people!

A) Yoshi P already said we are not getting a race at ANY point during stormblood

B) I believe it was stated that the raid would be based on FFT which is a game that does not feature Viera.

I still would rather have more options for existing races than a new race. Both? Even better.

I think male Viera should be left as is. I can see them being the most "pretty boy" of all the races, looking androgynous while being tall. Meanwhile their emotes are elegant.

For the body type they could slim them down probably to make it different from male Au Ra. Either way how they'd act would be different enough.

I think it would be great if male viera were the tallest males in ffxiv but very shy. We don't have a shy male in any of the races yet, and tall and shy never been done before. Instead of the serious personality of male miqo'te or male au ra they would just stand there daydreaming or something :p They could be the ditzy/clumsy/shy male personality we haven't seen before. The female viera would be the silent and strong ones.

Just giving them ideas, sometimes our ideas do come true so might as well.

i'm not for Viera aswell, after the wave of cats we will have a wave of rabbits, we have already Miqo'tes for the "kawai" stuff.

Anyway, imo they should add more charcater options on the races we have right now, we dont need a new race as priority

So long as they actually make the lanky Viera we all love and adore, I frankly couldn't care less. All I ask is that they aren't another 'cutesy' race like what they did with the Au Ra women in spite of their initial concept art, and that they actually are added in an expansion where we actually get to visit their homeland on Hydaleyn. I /hated/ how they shoe horned Au Ra into the game when they honestly should have been held back until Stormblood.

Ehhh, less sexualized and more presented as adults. This recent moonfire faire for example requires you to spy on beach goers and one of them is very much a scantily clad lalafell. Likewise if you go up to Costa Del Sol you'll find two Lalafell harassing a Miqo'te, with one talking about his ability to please women. Lalafell are perhaps the one race with the biggest disconnect between their outward presentation and how they're likewise presented within the world itself. Their outward presentation is cutesy and very, very child like. However in lore they're presented entirely in a different matter, with some of the most disturbing character arcs coming from members of their race. (Lolorito, for example.)

I mean, yeah, the running gag of perverted male lalafells continues throughout the entire game, really.

But I guess I never thought of them as children but more just smallfolk, and there's not much difference between a shirtless male lalafell and Verne Troyer (aka Mini-Me from Austin Powers: http://stupidcelebrities.net/wp-cont...ernetroyer.jpg ). It'd be nice if lalafells had a muscle tone slider like the other races, though.

Maybe I've just been so traumatized by the Elin from Tera and all of the people who perved all over them that lalafells don't even register for me. Do people see them as children, even with facial/gray hair? Is that a thing?

Personally I'd like to see Ivalice Moogles make it into the game, they could be moogles that naturally developed in Eorzea instead of coming down from the realm of the gods like the moogles we already have did. Also i kinda just wanna see the Lalafell Moogle race war that would happen between players trying to show which small cutesy race is better.

Players and the fanbase aside, there's far more Lalafel NPCs with sexual overtones than other races.

Can I show my support for hoping this never happens? We have enough races that are 90% human with 1 odd part.

I'd rather they just never make another race again if they aren't going to be unique with them.
