It would likely take about 19-20 of each darkening fruit to go from White to Soot Black range.

How many times did you get a message regarding the chocobo growing new feathers? We've already had reason to believe that fruit that do not give the new feathers message don't result in anything at all.

Sorry. I'm pretty sure I remember someone already saying what they fed to get Rolanberry Red from Regal Purple, but I can't seem to find it. I'm thinking only one feather message from the apples? Can anyone clarify if that's what they did?

Now the goal is to keep your BLUE at or near the same value and to decrease your GREEN and RED by around 65ish points. Try something like this:

x2 O'Ghomoro Berry
x1 Mamook Pear
x1 Xelphatol Apple

For every group of the above you feed it, you will lower your GREENs and REDs evenly, while keeping your BLUEs around the value it is now (33).

You're going to want to feel him multiple, but to keep it in this pairing. For instance:

x10 O'Ghomoro Berry
x5 Mamook Pear
x5 Xelphatol Apple

I believe that would be a good start for the next plumage change. You're on the right path to Soot Black!

FYI, this combo worked for the 1st time. I got feather change message on every feed after the 3rd O'Ghomoro berry & every Xelphatol apple. The stable condition was good.

The message I got was "Your chocobo's plumage will change in 6 hours"--which it didn't. This line of text is an outright lie. (And again, this was followed by a 6 hour countdown to nothing within the stable interface.)

I appreciate your desire to help me, but I don't need help. I just posted info so as to make people aware that this can be a complete waste of their time and resources, if they don't proceed carefully.

Alright! Let's take look at the current colors:

Original: Storm Blue
30R 58G 107B

Current: Royal Blue
34R 42G 96B

Desired: Soot Black
37R 35G 30B

You're on the right path, and now need to continue reducing BLUEs. You want the RED to change as little as possible in the process. Try this for your next feed:

x5 Mamook Pear
x5 Xelphatol Apple

Whileyour REDs and GREENs should stay relatively even, it will again drastically reduce your BLUEs (which is the goal as you move toward Soot Black).

if you don't see the message saying your chocobo is growing new feathers then your chocobo will not change colors.

I only had to do around 6 before I got the feather message. But my room mate was in a similar situation as yours. She had to wait for over 15+ before it triggered.

I am no expert at this, so it's mostly guesswork.
At Dalamud Red, I think I am 1 berry away from Rolanberry (Although I've decided to keep Dalamud Red; I like it).
So with that in mind... I think it'd have to go like this...

+3 Plum feather procs and +4 Pineapple feather procs.

I'd do it in that order if possible, too.
That would yield -3 feather procs to your Reds and -4 to your Blues.
You might need to feed it a few Plums until the first feather message comes up. I've been running into this issue, as well as others (See above).

1st feed; starting point Desert Yellow
18 berries (feathers message after first 4 then on every feed afterward)
6 pears

Result: Seafog Blue 93,122,154

My goal from here is Soot Black 37,35,30 .. with Midnight Blue being SO close I am inclined to use one pear and one apple to nudge the red and green up while dropping the blue value. Any thoughts before i go through with it?

I've been having a heck of a time trying to get black. Currently my chocobo is Othard Blue. Can anyone shed some light to point me in the right direction? Thanks!

I have a Snow White as well! I pretty much did what mero-ix did! From default, I fed my chocobo 4 Doman Plums (that was what it took to get the new feathers growing message), waited for 6 hours and saw the wonderful Slyphic Green. Then I fed my chocobo 8 more Doman Plums this morning and ta-da! Snow White. Easiest color to get by far.

If you're sitting at Ink Blue try this combo:

x2 Pineapples
x1 Valfruit

This should *knockonwood* put your end values roughly around 37R, 31G, 29B (assuming +/- 5 average integer) which is almost bang on to Soot Black; RNG is still a factor depending on where you're at in the Ink Blue values so mileage may vary.

Alright so now my chocobo is at Qiqurn Brown from shale brown last night. Fed him 3 berries, 5 pears and 5 apples. I dont think i understand how this works so any help would be great on what i should feed him next to get to grape purple. Thanks!

1 valfruit and you're there Philio. Let me know if it works, I'm chasing the soot black dragon too.

Fed 1 Valfruit but no change.. does it not that lighten it?

You're right Midnight Blue is sooo close.

Current Color: Midnight Blue
20R, 21G, 49B

Desired Color: Soot Black
37R, 35G, 30B

I would probably use something like this combo:

x4 Pineapples
x1 Berries

Using the pear likely won't work, because you'd deepen green but reduce blue and red; you don't want to drop your red you need to raise it.

I just fed him 2 Valfruits (Lightens Green) but no feather changing message... any suggestions?

I had Raptor Blue while trying to get Othard Blue as well. I fed it two more darken blue fruits (two feather procs), and got Othard Blue.

If anyone is keeping track:

I got Lilac Purple in 3 steps:

(From Desert Yellow default)
STEP 1: Fed 5 apples, got "new feather" message 4 times.
Result: from Desert Yellow to Millioncorn Yellow

STEP 2: Fed 10 berries, got "new feather" message 4 times
Result: from Millioncorn Yellow to Coral Pink

STEP 3: Fed 5 more berries, ONLY GOT "new feather" MESSAGE ONE (1) TIME!!
Result: from Coral Pink to Lilac Purple.

Please note that contrary to the existing color charts etc, I was able to achieve coral pink and the lilac purple using only apples and berries (no valfruit). Just thought people may want to know.

I would keep feeding your chocobo valfruit till you get a message, if that's a confirmed way to get from deepwood green to black. Sometimes it will take more than 1 or 2.

Has it been figured out how to darken the color?

I'm currently at Gloom Purple, but I was aiming for Currant Purple. Checking https://kuler.adobe.com, they seem to be practically on top of each other, Currant just being darker.

Should I alternate between the deepening fruits?

It *should* likely be Pumpkin Orange before Sunset Orange using only Apples from Millicorn Yellow.

Take away some red.

Changed my birdy from Honey Yellow to Ochu Green! Very happy with the look. <3 (Was originally trying to see if I could randomly get Rolanberry Red by chance but was short on O'Ghomoro Berries and used about 28(?) it was really late for me so I don't 100% remember but the rest was the same amount as Rolanberry.)

You're going to have a multi-step process.

Starting Color: Shale Brown
140R, 122G, 101B

Current Color: Qiqirn Brown
147R, 103G, 56B

Desired Color: Grape Purple
52R, 36G, 54B

Your last feed (Qiqirn Brown) you managed to drop your Green/Blue but increase your Red. Your next feed should be again something like:

x10 Berries
x10 Pears

This is going to drop your Red while keeping Green and Blue consistent. This should probably put you at a dark green colour (possibly something like Ochu). Once you get to that point, repost the colour you receive and we can take another look. From there it should be a matter of dropping Green while maintaining Red/Blue.
