He's a guy, who likes video games, who likes to stream, and happens to be a pretty good entertainer. There's no need for threads upon threads to be created on the matter. We could all just let him play the game in peace. Do I think it's good, sure? Do many people, sure? It certainly speaks volumes of it if he's making the leap

But that is no reason to make threads bowing down that the almighty and illustrious Asmongold has graced us with his presence, and then chalk it up to anyone as not condoning or agreeing with this narrative as being jealous. I thought we were beyond this level of elementary logic.

"Nothing special" and "Insignificant" are just different ways of saying the same thing. Going into a thread that's probably full of his fans and stating he's "nothing special" is condescension. You knew what you were doing.

Not that I mind, just don't play victim when fans of his fire back and call you jealous, or whatever.

He apparently has fans in this community that are glad he's coming onboard. If their enthusiasm bothers you then you're welcome to come into the thread and cut him down to size, but realize that's a confrontational thing to do, and can be interpreted as jealousy.

Nah, thats just an excuse to Justify your claim that I said something I never even said.
Nothing Special, is even what Asmon is calling this..."event" Its just a videogame, and he's just a gamer. He himself has said this is nothing special....how is it condescending when Asmon when he himself even said these things?

No, not significant and not special mean practically the same thing. But if you want to focus on the word special instead of significant then that's fine, we'll do that.

It's condescending towards the people who do view it as special. Also, he's just being modest; him pointing his hordes of followers in this direction is definitely a special thing; that's just a logistical fact. Anyone who comes packaged with followers and celebrity is going to be "special" to an MMORPG.

For what it's worth I don't think you're jealous of him; I think you just came here wanting to be "too cool for the hype" guy, and didn't like getting any backlash from Asmonds fans.

I never said the issue is with people being enthusiastic, or that, that alone poses an issue - Do I agree with it, not really, but that's me respecting the wishes of the person. The issue comes into play when those that are enthusiastic go at those that otherwise aren't with the immature and elementary logic such as "You're jealous" - I thought we all graduated from this line of thinking when we hit our mid-teens, apparently not though.

If you read my post carefully you'd know I used and then as sentence connectors, indicating that the issue was somehow connected with people chalking up this elementary logic of jealousy, as opposed to me having an issue with people being just exclusively happy or enthusiastic that he's elected to try this ship.

But hey whilst we're on elementary thinking - Let's reverse this situation, shall we. "One could reasonably infer that on your, and other peoples' continued reverence of Asmongold throughout this thread suggests that you're within the boundary of being obsessed about him playing the video game" - It can work both ways, so let's not create these levels of inferences, yes?

So you're saying Asmongold is being Condescending towards his own fanbase then because he has said "Its Just a game" He doesn't view it as special, but his fans do...so by your logic he's being condescending. Ive watched his videos, his fanbase & others (such as you) are blowing it up more then it is.

Sure, often times fans are obsessed and often times detractors are jealous. These aren't unreasonable surface level assessments in discussions like this. I'm not really accusing you of being jealous, though; I'm just saying that a condescending phrases like "the almighty and illustrious Asmon gracing us with his presence" can lead people to believe your actual point is tinged with jealousy.

If you were to say that you're not in any way special, that's modesty. If I were to jump into a thread dedicated to you and unprovoked start telling everyone that you're not special, that's me going out of my way to try to cut you down. Do you really not understand the difference?

People try to cut down celebrities all the time, and the underlying reasons are usually jealousy or to create some kind of impression that you're above things like fandom. I still believe that your intentions here were the latter, but you're free to deny it.

Surface level assessments in discussions of these don't go well, because you know, this is a controversial topic, which least of all shouldn't be underpinned by these inferences - Doesn't make for very productive discussion.

"He's nothing special" in a fan thread for a celeb isn't the framework for a productive discussion; it's gaslighting. People responding to that with surface level assessments isn't really something egregious.
