The MSQ is and has been used to introduce casuals to endgame mechanics somewhat, fates do this too, they alternate between different trash mobs and bosses.
In FFXI bards and thieves pulled mostly. I know some players who couldn't sneak by enemies or not a pull a link and some who could pull or sneak by enemies when it seemed impossible to do. I don't equate twitch with pulling but more about clever timing.(You watch enemy movement patterns then predict the perfect time to pull or sneak by)
In context it adds dynamism to gameplay, but is not always wise to use in every aspect of a game.
I referenced GTA only to compare hardcore and casual/midcore content in another game.

People are getting rather hot under the collar here for no real good reason. Some of these arguments will be met, others won't. I think it's important to realize what's not changing here, which is vertical progression. It's here to stay and we're not going to see it change anytime soon.
As far as horizontal elements to our progression? We're almost guaranteed a degree that over time. But keep in mind human limitations. The process will be slow, and there will be lulls, and you won't get exactly or everything you want. Period. Relax, and don't use straw-man, circular arguments or flat out misinformation to support your opinion. There's no need. Leave your honest desires as they are, and move on.
Some of the obsessive level hatred and support of this game is just unhealthy. -

In regards to it not concerning this game:
Maybe this should be in a different thread altogether then. I was pretty sure we were talking about FFXIV since we are in those forums.
In regards to SWG:
If servers are shutting down... then its a failure. Whether or not it was huge at one point is really irrelevant. Its failing because its not what an audience wants.
Concerning the success of MMO's
The WoW formula is guaranteed money. You take it and you twist it slightly and you walk away with a pay day. Ford doesn't change the Mustang randomly to make it more marketable. They keep it familiar to keep people comfortable. People like comfortable. -

I say regardless of what is, including playing games. If that is what lights you up, then do it. "Time Sink?" Explain what you mean. If a game is fun and engaging and challenges you. It is not a chore to do. Its fun.
I also am quite offended. I do have a life and am well off thanks to my choices. I am not even in debt and going to college and have ways to make money.
Lately, I am working more then playing video games because they are "boring" and work is actually fun and pays good. -

"Boring" is a matter of opinion. Not something inalienable you can throw around like labeling a color, or a type of fruit. It's ok that you and others find it boring. Others do not, and you should respect that.
By the way, showing off your hours played on a video game is no badge of honor, it may actually be discrediting you at this point. -
