I agree. Now, I'm quick to defend people especially if they are new players; but, you have to draw a line somewhere. There's plenty of opportunity to learn how to tank on a dark knight. A 24 man raid is not the place. At that point, you're just being carried.

To whomever was in the Rabanastre run with me tonight,

I am so sorry. I am an idiot. I died 8 times throughout the entire raid. One wasn't my fault as someone brought their stack marker to us. Another at the end boss, I have no idea how I died. I wasn't in an aoe, I had almost full health, I was running back towards the boss with the rest of the group and then BOOM dead. The other times, definitely my fault. Running towards the side Hashmal's hand was glowing? My fault. I have no idea why but I confused which side it was. Rofocale, didn't get out of the AOE fast enough, although one death I was entirely out of it but I guess I must have lagged a little.

In any event, if anyone is here who was in my party, I am usually better. I haven't died 8 times in that raid since the very first day I went in. Earlier this week I did it and didn't die /at all/. So, I am sorry.

Oh goodness, do I have a story?

For 50/60 Roulette I had Pharos hm, which is usually a good, quick dungeon. The two DPS were rdm, with one being new to the place with around 12k HP, and the other having around 17k. However, I notice almost right away that the pulls are taking a bit longer than is necessary. I first consider that, maybe, the lower geared Rdm is making that much difference. Then we get to the first boss, and I start to see the problem.

The 17k Rdm gets tethered the second and third time, and neither time bring it to either of the creatures around the room; they dodge the aoes just fine but otherwise just stand there with the weapon out. I should note, for later, that there was no disconnect poke-bubble by their name. What I did see was the Roleplaying symbol.

So we get to the next pull in that hallway, and the fight's taking a while. I notice cast bars galore on the 12k Rdm in the party list, but almost no cast bars at all on the 17k Rdm. Once the Dualcast buff appears, it lingers there. Curious about this, and admittedly possibly more harsh than it needed to be, I asked the higher-geared Rdm if they were going to cast any spells at all. They claimed to be lagging super heavily because of dial-up.

Now, I've online gamed on dial-up before. It sucks at times, but it's usually stable unless someone is trying to call you. Things were a little slow, even with the likes of Ultima Online, but they weren't impossible. Also, issues were consistent like that, which raises a question as to how that same Rdm was able to dodge stuff just fine. So, I told them that yes, dial-up can suck for gaming, but not in the way they're doing.

SUDDENLY their performance shot up and things went fairly smooth until just after the second boss. Then we finished that first pull afterwards and that 17k Rdm said abruptly, "Well, you're lucky then because my kid just woke up and you don't have to put up with my bad lag any more!" And they left within a second.

"Ouch," I said to the rest of the party, "I'm sorry if I came across as bitchy back there, but none of that seemed right with the lack of handling tethers and the poor dps with our gear levels."

Another 17k HP Rdm joined, and it was smooth sailing from there, though perhaps a tiny bit slow to account for the 12k Rdm's gear level. The dungeon came to an end, and I got two comms. Cool.

I checked my Contacts and saw that the roleplayer claiming to have dial-up issues was from Balmung. So... *shrugs*

Next came Leveling Roulette, where I got Bardam's Mettle. Another good, fun dungeon.

This time the DPS are Samurai. I notice right away during the first pull that one of them occasionally gets the DC bubble, and they state that they're experiencing lag. But all is well enough, and they even follow me on the aggro list and handle the mechanics all pretty well. The Sam who was new? Died a number of times, couldn't pass any of the second boss's trials, but did OK overall despite being new to the place. The healer? Scared me, multiple times, passed one of the three trials of that boss, and did alright ultimately without complaint.

In conclusion, I think that first Rdm was just full of crap and pretending to be suffering dial-up issues as part of their roleplay. If there's a lesson to be learned here, it's that people really shouldn't go out of their way to inconvenience others who are just running a dungeon. <_<;

I'd say they were just full of crap and a plain bad player.
Them having the RP tag up means little - the vast majority of roleplayers know better than to try to roleplay in a DF run. The few who don't are typically not only bad players, but bad roleplayers and general pain-in-the-asses as well.

It seem more likely to me that the “pretending to disconnect” wasn’t roleplaying itself, but a cover-up excuse for their lack of attention, and they were more engaged in a text-based roleplay that they didn’t put aside when they went into the dungeon.

what is RP icon anyway? i tried to change to it sometime but see no different in gameplay, trying to search on GG and find every answer is so confuse, basicly they told me that those player want to "live" as their character, what is ever mean?

I roleplay during dungeon runs. But I follow a set script, and use <t> macros so I don't have to stop to type, since I'm usually the tank. "Did you think you could HIDE, <t>?? NOW you pay!!" It keeps me amused. My personal favorite was the week I spent as a yandere tank who attacks bosses for looking at the healer. I really wish I saved those macros.

It puts a gold RP icon next to your name, similar to the mentor crown and the other icons that go there. That one tells other roleplayers that you're one of them and open for roleplaying. That's it. It has no gameplay effect whatsoever.

It's for people who want to act as their characters, by talking to other characters and such. If you've ever played Dungeons & Dragons when the party has an in character discussion about things with each other, it's that. If you like writing backstories and doing improv, it's quite a lot of fun.

Yep! I was in B. I was the BLM who couldn't stay on her feet! I think I was hitting C's water sphere or whatever it's called at the first boss because I've somehow never been in any other alliance than C. *sadface* I honestly don't know wth was in my head last night but that was my worst run of Raba. I was in party chat just like "ok, so I give up." Best part, I didn't even need to do it for any gear as I'd done it earlier this week. I was only going through it with a friend for her weekly and to "get a bit better at the mechanics" (ahahahahah!)



I went into World of Darkness later on with my FC leader. I went in as AST thinking (for some dumb reason, again, wth) it was Void Ark which is easy peasy to heal through. We had a TON of newbies and it was the worst WoD I've been in. Co-healer was allegedly drunk, as was one of their friends in our party. Two SAMs and a DRG couldn't stay alive for more than 30 seconds at a time. One of the SAMs would keep going to the home point after they died, just as I swiftcast/Ascended them (with a macro saying they were being brought back to life!) leaving me without a swiftcast a few times. Co-Heal was in Diurnal but didn't throw out any Aspected Benefics on anyone. I was in Noct and trying to keep shields on everyone. Wiped three times; once on the second boss, once on the doggy, and again at the last boss. I ended up with two comms, shockingly.

It was a weird night, but I've never been so embarrassed as I was in Raba.

I'll keep this one short since I'm on my phone, but ended up in Weeping City earlier this week on my PLD. That would be fine....except I've only done it once back in May, so I definitely didn't remember mechanics. And I had my mentor crown. I asked for help from my party, fully expecting to be kicked.

To my surprise, my party told me what I needed to know, esp for Ozma. Felt good to have that experience. Only died once due to not realizing that Ozma doesn't have guardrails.

I was in Weeping City earlier this week, too. Really good run. Hilaaarious moment when we got to Ozma and one of the other alliance's BLM essentially did a swan dive off the platform almost immediately, followed by a message in alliance chat to the tune of "OMG YOU CAN FALL HERE?!" Absolutely everyone was lol'ing, a few "10.0!" and "9.5!" went out, too. Before that, I made a flub with my aetherial manipulation macro during Forgall. I accidentally targeted the boss and sent out a party message saying "Forgall! Take me with you!" which caused more than a few laughs.

Lol. I wish I was in those runs. I'm usually in one of two runs: we clear with few problems, or everything goes to hell with each boss. Is it me, or was Weeping City unusually popular in the DF this week?

That first boss was just a mess in general. Nobody soaked the north puddle, so it became a blizzard cube. THEN nobody killed it, so I was turned into a snowman (which is the first time that ever happened, and I must admit was really cute so I wasn't even mad). Somehow I didn't die and was left with about 1,000 HP. So I excog'd my PLD and healed myself up. I'm just happy we didn't wipe!

Rabanasty is just a breeding ground for frustration anyway. Somehow it's gotten worse!
I was also in there helping a friend, and they didn't even get their drop. They got the coin though, and that's all that really matters. Still, might run it again ;;.

Your run sounded all kinds of awful. I've been noticing a lot more lately that healers aren't using their HoTs.

Don't worry though, we've all had off nights. I was doing so awful in a Shinryu Ex run that I had to apologize to the party for my poor play and leave in shame.

Ran The Vault for the first time yesterday and...
Oh boy.

That was the most challenging dungeon I have faced to date.
Three out of four of us were new, except for our bard, but everyone was polite and understanding.

After several wipes on the final boss, I was actually shaking; I was getting worse each time due to nerves. Every time he said, "This shall be a mercy," I messed up somehow shortly after. I offered to let the group kick me, but the tank insisted that we would get it if we kept trying.

The bard had played a white mage before and gave me some healing suggestions, which helped immensely. My healing game definitely improved from the trial by fire.
Unfortunately, I died again on the final boss, but the group pulled through and cleared it.

I'm hoping to ask my FC friends to help me run it so I can "git gud". Overall, even though it was hell, it was one of my most positively remembered runs because of the amazing people I had the good fortune to run it with.

But yeah, Ser Charibert is probably the biggest Healer wake-up call up to that point in the game (excluding the really serious ARR stuff, of course). I do remember going through that at launch as WHM, was pretty scary even though I was with friends and had already been put through the insane masspulls of Brayflox hard.
Keep at it, and you'll improve for sure! You've already got the attitude right, now it just takes some time. :)

As a side note: Does ARR really pump your levels up THAT seriously nowadays? That Paladin has level 60 gear on, was he really so overleveled compared to the story? @.@
I'm kind of jealous, as someone who did all of ARR back when it gave no exp.
Except not actually, I wouldn't wish that 100-quest grind all at once on anyone.

Good for you! Trial by fire is the only way to learn - I'd say most healers gain their stripes in The Vault. Stick at it :)

Yeah the Vault is the first PURE healer check out of any story based dungeon up until that point and it's absolutely unforgiving for those who aren't prepared. Be proud you cleared it! You're going to have one more 'healer check' ahead of you in the HW storyline (it's a trial though I'm not going to spoil which one since I'm not sure if you want story spoilers or not and just saying the name is a huge giveaway) but by the time you get through it and subsequently into SB you should be more than prepared. Just remember to take it slow and don't let yourself be discouraged!

The Vault can be a real mofo and, like you mentioned, it can really push healers to their limit. You were lucky that you had such an understanding and positive group (not to dismiss your own awesome attitude). Keep it up! You're bound to make an amazing healer in the future.

Eh, not much a bad story but something I noticed and is kindof a bummer but it's solved itself. The mini boss intros to the bosses in raids and dungeons. Finally reaching endgame I've done the 24 man and 2 dungeons at 70 so far, each time but 1 I was locked out the last boss cause the scene would play and boom in the middle of the scene the words - 15 seconds before lockout- So I run only to find myself locked out. Feels like even after I tell people " first time" They never read it or just assumes I seen it all and rushes forward. Those scenes will never play again so this is why I said it fixes itself.. but I still got one more dungeon to go and I'mma just PF the thing cause already and not even a day in I'm already crossed at how people are at endgame. Look I understand you're bored or whatever, but just cause you are doesn't mean the new person who told you they were new seen all the stuff and likes being locked out the last fight.

How on Eorzea did we clear 24 man raids before red mage was added to the game? In a single Rabanastre run I used verraise 41 times. A big thank you to the bard in our alliance for all that mp, btw. There were a lot of new people so can't really fault them for that. They were definitely learning and showing improvement along the way. In the first fight we actually got to see a third ice-skating phase with no one doing mechanics and adds everywhere. In alliance chat people were wondering how we hadn't wiped yet. Well it was me. I was just mass verraising people. I probably should have stopped at some point, but I don't like to give up.

Hashmal was as expected. Verraise dispenser. Me frantically trying to raise the healers and dps before the next dps check.

Interestingly enough, at the last boss we discovered that the fourth gnawing dead is a repeat of the second. Even after all the deaths and wipes, we managed to clear. By the grace of Hydaelyn and my near-infinite mp pool, we cleared. And then I immediately signed up for another run...because why not?

Anyways once I got Bismark Brutal as an AST and the other healer was an AST. Thought it would be funny to type "Eeeeey Astro buddy !". And he replied "Buddyyyyyy".

And let's just say it was the most fun I had with another AST. Healing each other and the rest at the right moment, having different sects, giving good cards at the right moment.

It was a thing of beauty.

Kugane Castle expert roulette, the DDs didn't have enough DPS to kill the two AoE bomb adds on first boss. I confess I stopped DPSing them on WHM to see if they could make it or not, they couldn't. :D

Yes. You're 50 when you finish 2.0, and then you've got five patches worth of stuff before 3.0 content starts, which also expected you to be 50. With five patches of XP, you're going to be not 50. If you're also doing side stuff and roulettes, you can hilariously outlevel it. A friend of mine is already 70 and hasn't even gotten to Stormblood content yet.

If you buy the level 60 boost on the mogstation it includes a set of level 60 gear. The 2.x 100 quest chain only boosts you to about ilvl 110(plus or minus a couple - im citing this from memory).

I've just done the pre-Heavensward quests (plus Crystal Tower and a few roulettes) with my summoner and I'm at Lv54, plus white mage at Lv55 from roulettes. Right now I'm actively trying to level multiple classes to spread out my EXP gain because I'm worried about hitting level 70 before I'm close to the end of Stormblood. (I also had black mage and bard at Lv50 going into Heavensward, and have gotten them both to 51 from the Lv50 quests and sidequests.)

(Would be nice if you could earn some kind of "EXP credit" after you hit the level cap - perhaps convert it into Rested bonus that you can make use of with your other classes?)

I'm doing only DR 50/60 and Alliance for poetics, and I've been noticing this 'attitude' from certain players. I don't know if it's what you call elitism or just overconfidence.
once in LotA, my co-healer kept on arguing with one of our DPS for 'poor performance'. I usually stay away from the drama, and ignored most of the argument, but I noticed up until Behemoth I'm pretty much solo-healing our party! and co-healer died because I presume they were too busy typing :P
then today, I was grouped with a DPS who thinks they're a better tank, so at one point they tried pulling a mob, told tank (who's a sprout btw) to 'pull big', and tanked the adds on their own during the last boss instead of telling the tank to switch targets. I don't tank so I'm not keen to which mistakes our tank made, but performance was obviously poor. needless to say, both tank and off-tank DPS died, but I decided to rez tank first :P besides, the other DPS was doing well. we managed to clear. :)

I was tanking for an FC buddy who wanted to run Sohm Al. It wasn't the smoothest start. I blamed myself for wiping the group with a large-ish pull, and say I will pull less. Healer adds to the blame accusing me of eating all the AoEs, which I wasn't. My squishy DRK is only iLv139 atm, so I can see how an inexperienced healer would think I am taking unnecessary damage if they are used to over geared tanks. I proceed to tell the healer (WHM) to keep regen up and add Asylum if its up, which immediately changed the entire run once he started to do so.

All of this isn't why I am here though. The really funny thing is after this run, my friend and I decided to run Sohm Al one more time since we were both about to level up, and we got the same two players from the last run! I mean what are the odds? Even funnier than that though, was we wiped on the same pull as the last run. I mean other than everyone noticing we were the same group, the run was a mirror image of the previous run. :p

This is the reason why people think BRDs suck: ran into one in Expert Roulette. Only used songs during the bosses. Didn’t use them for any of their AOE potential. Barely kept up her Straight Shot buff. Used Raging Strikes WITHOUT A SONG UP. Best part? She has cleared v3s because she was in Savage gear.

She didn’t use songs on trash until I told her, “Please use your songs; multi-dotting targets during Mage’s Ballad gives you a lot of Rain of Death procs to use on AOE”. Well, she did that...once. Just... why. Why. WHY.

Please turn in your BRD soul stone; you’re making my job look bad. And note to other BRDs that choose to be lazy: we know when you aren’t using your songs thanks to the Crit buff they give. So, please use them.

It always hurts to watch when people, especially alleged Savage raiders--play your main class so lazily or poorly. I often have the same feeling around Bards or White Mages (and on rare occasion Dark Knights).

I had a SAM in Ala Mhigo this morning who must have taken notes from that BRD. I was on RDM, with an FC mate on DRK and random WHM healer. Tank does the first pull up to the wall, and I notice it's taking a while to die (I'd used Contre Sixte twice and was close to a third). - Encountered a single target BLM while tanking in Fractal.... seriously made me think twice about pulling x2 grps or more when everything burns so slowly...
- Having to burn through x2 stacks of aetherflows as a smn in expert roulettes and the mobs are not even close to dying....
- An O4S run where a certain player died like at least 5 times in Neo-Exdeath; and he proceed to win the rolls for the coffer and armor.... God why??

My own oops:
- Didn't addle the 2nd Almagest as I was busy with swiftcasting and raising a tank in O4S.... we wiped to the dots
- Aetherflowing when DWT is primed and ready.... thankfully everyone was geared so we are no where close to enrage lol

Then I met that same player wearing that armour (he was on a bard when he won, armour was for caster) after I accidentally queued for O4S when I was supposed to do O1S.... thankfully we did not made it through ExDeath....

Guys. I'm so tired of wiping to Deathgaze. Was doing Alliance as SMN (I pretty much only take smn or healer now). Dps was decent and only a few were getting knocked off. Then Doom happened and it all went to shit. I continuously raised ppl and began calling it out in party chat. Both WHMs were like... 'We don't have Esuna.'

Now while this blew my mind once upon a time, one of my raiding friends explained why this is a thing (and of course there were no Bards in our group) and I was like... ok. They just need a sec to put it on.

They didn't. Doom kept happening and we kept dropping. Finally I realized that both WHMs were in Shire gear and were jumpers who had no idea what ROLE SKILLS ARE. This made the entirety of the raid HELL until one of them finally dropped and we got another WHM who in fact, had Esuna. Thank God.

Also, World of Darkness is a horrible place now. 3 wipes at King Floateye. Because of Doom mostly. FML
