Oh, right. Exactly what you described because an item exists that isn't available. Someone earned it when it was available and they didn't know about it or weren't even playing and it really burns their bottoms.

I draw the distinction here because Cirina, like myself is an Au Ra, and a fairly adorable one, especially the minion. I have wanted this since I first noticed they introduced Sadu, and Magnai On the other hand the earring is not something I get much value in, that's me personally, some people will, some people won't I fall into the latter.

Granted I do in fact believe that people shouldn't be handed an item for free. But again, in this particular case I would find it as quite commemorative, being an item you currently can't achieve, and granted it was a reward for one of the harder quests. Again, how I truly feel on this subject matter I will withhold entirely until I've participated in the event. If I feel the items have no worth to me then I will either discard them or not bother going for what probable grind they will make people do. If I were to give my thoughts on the matter, I do think the trial should be recreated to some depth, to at least give those that weren't able to participate in an event, to participate in said event. With true difficulty maintained. But logically, and this is why I haven't bothered mentioning it, is because it would consume far too much time and resources just for the sake of a limited-time event. Like I have said, judgement withheld, and like I've also implied earlier in the thread these items should not be Mogstation purchasable in a years time.

Before you make the argument, or before someone else pulls this out of the hat. there's a major difference between handing an item down for free that was probably an unintended exclusive due to the game being shut down and the content being no longer available, especially if said item holds value to the history of the game, and something current in the game that can achieved with significant effort being handed out like a freebie.

I have the Primogs minion from Before the Fall:OST before the codes became expired and the Yuna minion from the previous fanfest. I literally do not care if other people get them through different means. It's a virtual toy, it's not like someone stole your Olympic gold medal and is pretending to be an international athlete or if someone stole your identity.

It's also an MMO. Your entire gaming life revolves around things becoming invalidated after a certain amount of time. When you eventually unsub and cancel your subscription or they shut down XIV somewhere in the future, all of that work goes down the drain you know. You can't hold onto it forever.

Same thing with real life buddy. When we die we lose everything. Guess we should make everything free in this world cause it just makes sense haha.

I'm amused when people take offence to others getting access to shinies they think should stay exclusive because of the supposed prestige attached to them.

Yes how dare SE unlock tiny snippets of content for other players. It's such a crime to increase the accessibility to old purely cosmetic items. Newer players don't deserve to also enjoy them.

On the issue that “it’ll be on MogStation next year!”... will it? I don’t think you can buy last year’s rewards (Lyse and Gosetsu minions if I remember correctly), and I haven’t been here long enough to know what the previous rewards were but everything available in the “past seasonal events” category seems... well, seasonal.

Perhaps I’m mistaken and the minions are about to be available to coincide with this year’s event. But if any event rewards are going to be unavailable later, the “thankyou for playing” event seems fair enough. (Although then a poor choice to make character minions the prizes, so... I don’t know.)
