WTF?! thats harassment, I hope you reconsiderer to report that DRG, PLD is just fine!, no one have any right to tell you what job to play.
Before HW came out, i was in Urth's Fount, we get wiped a couple times, and everyone starts trying to plan/teach the mechanics (there were some newbies who didn't know the fight). While a tank, a healer, and myself (dps) are telling the new players what's what, the other tank chimes in and starts callin' out specific people, mainly dps (including myself, who had a ilvl90 weapon at the time [and everything else was Ironworks gear, btw]), to change to higher ilvl weapons. We all go "haha, very funny, yo" and commence with plotting...but he keeps it up. "You, your bow sucks, switch to a higher weapon" "You too, blm, switch to a higher weapon". It was at that moment we realized that, somehow, he was actually frickin' serious. Because, you know, people go around using lower lvl weapons when they have better ones cuz they feel like it, especially when fighting ODIN...
We told him, "Dude, uh...nobody has higher weapons. Also, it's your ilvl that matters, all your gear adds to your dmg." He wasn't buyin' it. "Weapon does the damage, and we won't be able to do this with these weapons..." Now, mind you, someone was using an ifrit weapon, but even they had ilvl 120 gear on otherwise. Guy wouldn't give it up. We just tried to ignore him, but eventually we all got sick of it, and Odin lived to slay another day. Don't know if the guy was just havin' a "jolly time" bein' a troll or what, but dang, you almost hope that's what he was up to...
This happened ages ago, back when Amdapor Keep(HM) was in the Expert Roulette, but I saw I still had it saved from back when I was showing other people what had happened so I edited the names out and decided to post it here. This was frustrating to the point that I almost began to doubt myself because his little healer buddy was on his side and the tank just made a scoffing remark that was incredibly stupid.
http://puu.sh/mmvzC/b2cff3a1f4.png
(The initial comments about Paeon being for scrubs I overlooked. I had assumed he was just a loudmouth that was bragging about our ~~**~amazing~**~~ and mutual TP conservation abilities until he brought it up again later).
So I am assuming he didn't notice that he had a damage reduction when using it, I am still unsure as to just why he couldn't have used the song on his own if he needed it that badly - outside of using any excuse to exercise his amazing (though incorrect) knowledge of the class over us other, plebeian Bards -, and I am guessing that he was so blinded by his own awesomeness that he forgot how to manage TP or realise that Invigorate was a thing.
Even though the Tank only said one thing, it's sheer stupidity got on my nerves. At the time I felt like commenting that maybe I should just avoid using damage buffs altogether too, since apparently even mentioning a Bard's damage is a joke in itself.
Wow...
I play BRD as one of my main jobs, and the belief they can't DPS is rather annoying. I've out dmg'd most other jobs at times, and have seen others do the same. Not saying it's NIN or BLM, but...it can get the job done, and quickly if you know what you're doing...love that River of Blood...
But yeah, wow, that guy...honestly, just laugh at the absurdity. There are only very specific times when a BRD should use any of the songs, you were in the right. Gotta wonder if he was trollin'...better than being "mentally challenged", I suppose.
Got Pharos in level 50 roulette. Wiped 3 times on the first boss do to the tank and both DRG's standing in aoe and getting stacks. I spoke up and things improved each time, so no biggie.
Second boss, I admit I have never fully understood it. From what I remember, you kill one of the eggs that's about to hatch, but let the other hatch and kill the add. No one touched the eggs at all, and the boss kept using its flatten move. Nothing cure 3 couldn't handle... but it did it back to back and we wiped.
Tank thoughtfully suggested that I needed to heal more. I politely said that there was a way to prevent him from using that ability, but admitted I wasn't completely sure what it was. Only that it involved the eggs. So then the tank starts killing all the eggs, which I thought I remembered made the boss go bonkers, but it went a lot better and we killed it.
Up until now, the tank had only been pulling one group at a time, which was fine. But randomly, on the stair case he decides to pull everything. Once we are at the top of the steps, I see a sprite doing its long cast, so I prepare cure 3. Only I was a little too late and a little too close to the tank, and got interrupted. Saw that another was casting, and ran away from the tank and used swiftcast and cure 3. And apparently lagged, cause it didn't go off right away. Both of the DRG's died. One released to the start, and I raised the other.
Then the tank decides to take it all back down the stairs. We get to the bottom, and the drg that I had raised was being beat up by something at the top. Honestly can't remember if he died. Was too busy trying to keep the tank alive and occasionally being interrupted by some slime babies that he didn't have hate on. Somehow, the tank and I survived the entire thing, though he never did stun a single sprite. And things weren't dying fast enough and were too chaotic for me to stun them with holy.
Finally we get to Siren. No big deal here. Tank never stuns lunatic voice, but that's easy enough to heal through as long as there isn't multiple healing debuffs.
Funny thing, when you run into people that act like that, 90% of the time they're eso gear princesses that don't know their own rotation from their ass, haven't set foot in Savage, and wouldn't know a good tank if one smacked them upside the head.
If he's that unhappy about ending up with a PLD tank in roulette, he should queue with a WAR/DRK instead of abusing people. When you queue up in DF, you take a risk that you'll end up with undergeared people, unskilled people, odd party compositions, etc. It's unfortunate that you just happened to end up with an asshole DRG that's used to being carried.
The fact that he told you to kill yourself puts that firmly in the "harassment" category.Quote:
We get to the first boss, clear it without any problems, and on the run from the boss room to the next trash I see this message:
"Go kill urself PLD"
And then I get vote kicked. Considered reporting the guy, but honestly I doubt anything would happen because I foresee this being factored under "playstyle differences."
I honestly hope you change your mind and file a report.
I'd quote, but I'm on mobile and am too lazy to edit now.
I agree that I hope you report him. Even if nothing is done right away, it should count as a strike against him, and if he keeps that behavior up, he will be one strike closer to being banned.
Look back at my post. Said I'm a geared healer. i206 to be exact.
And when other people are suddenly taking significant damage, sorry, I would much rather heal than deal with the adds and let someone die. Also doesn't help when DPS pull a stunt like that NIN and grab the slime, drag it around (long enough for me to tell him where to kill it THREE TIMES), and then kill it in the wrong spot, causing others to spawn.
I'm geared, but I'm one person, and I'm a healer, so I don't have the survivability of a tank. Especially when you factor in interruptions to my casts. (Got unlucky with that one for that fight.)
Was in Void Ark the other night. first time in a long time.
I'm in the C alliance.
At one of the bosses (the one that spawns moth adds), my alliance is the last to finish fighting. Someone in Alliance B or A makes a snide remark about the C in our alliance standing for "Carried".
The funny thing, though, we got stuck dealing with Alliance A's moth adds along with our own.
L.O.L.
I think a lot of DPS assume they're doing much higher damage than they actually are. In your scenario, the BLM probably tossed a few spells, saw the mobs' health trickling down and figured she had done her job, never realizing it wasn't her DPS that actually killed the thing, but yours. Much as SE hates parsers, this is where they would help.
I was trying to tank Satasha on my alt for the first time and had a very rude rogue. I, of course, was learning as I went but this guy just... as soon as we started, he popped sprint and ran off before going into hide and waiting for my first hit.
Then he would attack the add I wasn't focused on. I shrugged it off at first like maybe it was an accident. I was already nervous about tanking and so i pulled the next one. he did it again! I became anxiety filled to slightly annoyed. Then he hit sprint once more then pulled everything as he hit hide. He kept attacking every add I was never on and we had a thm spamming blizzard 2. Rogue pulled again near the end. I let him keep it. I didn't bother taking it back.
The boss.UGH THE BOSS. NO ONE STOPPED THE ADDS FROM SHOWING AND IT HAD SO MANY. the thm i understood, he/she was new. BUT THE ASTRO.who I forgot didn't have protect to begin with! Should have known! I cried.I really cried when it was over.
This is one of the reasons I enjoyed leveling WAR so much at lower levels, Overpower is OP as hell, I had a whole group like that in Haukke Manor. They where obviously trying to give me a hard time by getting hate on stuff but couldn't because Overpower is amazing, I just laughed at their pathetic trolling to be honest. Even on the second boss after I'd marked which one to kill first they, quite predictably, picked the opposite but it was no biggie, Overpower rules all lol. They would ignore the patrolling mobs even though everyone knows to prioritise them and even jumped down the stairs after the first boss just to make life difficult. None of it worked and they couldn't fluster me thanks to Overpower. I finished the dungeon laughing my ass off hoping they where annoyed that their trolling had failed.
Best. PvP. Match. Ever.
So it's about 45min to maint, party queues for Seal Rock. Got a couple of people super close to ADS, so we've been happily doing games with them the past few days. We kind of forget about the queue and it pops about 15min before maint.
24 man.
We go in anyway, we play the match like normal. At about the 300 point mark we get the notice "Maintenance is now starting.". What happens next is best described by our TS conversation so get ready for an adventure.
Me (AST), David (WHM), Saya (PLD), Dova (NIN), Leah (NIN), Maow (BLM), Hurp (MCH), and Crow (SMN)

Maow: We... we didn't all get credit for that win did we? :(
Hurp: Probably not and now we all owe Crow 10k for being the last to d/c.
Everyone: Worth.
Gotta love that PvP life. No match is ever the same, but I don't think we'll ever be able to top that one. XD
[EDIT] We did not get that win. Only Crow did. Wth, SE. D:
Tbh, I probably would've just stopped DPSing adds if the REAL DPS aren't helping. But that only because I still believe some of AST spells take too much MP and you never really know what can happen during fights.
As a healer, I've always handled slimes myself unless I see someone else grabbing them. I guess it depends on groups really, I just find it easier to do it myself so DPS can focus on boss.
Hope you reported that BLM, because it sounds like he was a-hole himself.
I've gone to Void Ark 3 times now.
First time in, I notify the raid I'm new. Silence. First two bosses are rough. We wipe twice on Cuchulainn due to tank death and someone tries a vote abandon. I step up and volunteer to tank him despite being my first run because clearly something is terribly wrong with the other groups. We finally kill him. On the last boss one of the healers from group A face pulls Echidna before I run in and gets eaten. We barely make it through with 1/3 of the raid dead at the end.
Second time I queue up with 5 friends from my FC, most of us new and entry level geared- me as the tank, two WHM and misc dps plus two PUG dps. One instantly starts begging for our WHMs to pass on the healer gloves if they drop. I very nicely explain they are new to VA and need the upgrade. Silence. We kill Cetus and lo and behold, the gloves drop. He screams in all caps to let him have them. Naturally the WHMs roll need. Guy tells us to "go get aids" and ragequits.
My friend and I ran Stone Vigil NM for his monk. I went in as my 60/i145 SCH. Got paired with a DRK and a BLM
The first pull and I go in with my typical Fey Wind + Adlo + Rouse ->DPS. Tank is full health...90%...20% Dead. Lol What? He just ran back from the start and the DPS and I finished the first pull. I wanted to ask him if he was new here or what since he didn't say anything at the begining, but I thought, I'm i145 I'll just focus heal and keep him up.
So I get to watch him really closely. He uses CDs occasionally, so that's alright. But the real problem was that he was really hungry for AOE breakfast. OM NOM NOM AOE in the face all the time. He basically just picked his spot right in the middle of the adds, did his aggro thing, but then just expected me to heal through every, single AOE. And the mobs in that place are scripted to pretty much AOE all at the same time, so he would get hit with like...two or three overlapping AOEs at once. I managed to keep him up like 4/5 pulls, but the other one it would be all like "They see me raisin', they hatin'"
After about the third time we almost wipe because I've had to res him twice in the same pull and I can't heal anyone because MP from swiftcast + raise I say in what I hope came across as helpful and polite "You know, I think it would go a lot easier if you would try to dodge some of the AOE. I might be able to keep you up more. :)" He jumps on my toon, uses unleash, types xD in the chat and proceeds to pull the next group. I thought, "Hey, maybe that means okay?" nope, it meant silly lala, aoes are for tanks.
The BLM is doing good through the first two thirds. I can tell that he's done this a million times because hiding from the fire breath in all the right spots and pulls the cannons and stuff. But after the second boss he afks for like 30 seconds. And even though I'm saying in the chat window, "Don't pull, don't pull!" the DRK pulls thinking that we're all right behind him (heard of your map) and the BLM comes back to a shitstorm so basically after that I think he stopped trying. I watched him on the last boss. One fire stack, full on MP, stood in one spot for at least five or six seconds not casting. I had to raise him because HE ate the AOE and he didn't accept the raise for like ten or fifteen seconds.
The tank dies when the boss is at 1% from, you guessed it, an AOE, and I just let him make out with the floor while my friend pulls the level 1 limit (level two got used at about 50%, so that gives you an idea of how long the last half of this battle took) and kills the boss.
Got out of there ASAP. I practically SPRINTED to the exit. We don't comm anyone. I get both, though. :)
After the run, I look the guy up on the lodestone. Level 52 ARC, level 15 PGL, level 41 DRK. That's it. He literally did the bare minimum to make it to HW to grab DRK and has never tanked before in his life. I felt bad for all the DFs he dragged through Haukke and Brayflox to get to this point. And did seriously nobody tell him not to stand in the AoE that whole time? smfh
Got Ravana last night for trial roulette. Bonus. Two dps bailed immediately. I made a scoffing remark about how it wasn't even hard, and someone else replied other people have steeper learning curves. One of the other players agreed with me and said if you pay attention it's not a hard fight at all. We got new deeps and after some foot shuffling the Paladin pulled, probably hanging back bc the Warrior was higher level/better geared.
We cleared it with smooth sailing, zero swords, no deaths. Too bad for those two suckers who bailed on an easy bonus!
So, I decided to heal Void Ark this week for a change...
I admit I havn't met anyone who said "Healer do slimes" but I will admit its fairly simple to do, maybe I am just geared for it (199 AST) but I had no real issue tagging the slime and covering it. Now of course I do believe the DPS should be the one to do it assuming one of them sees things are not 100% on point but meh.
Spent 70minutes in Cutter's Cry as all 3 members were new, that includes the tank and the healer. The whole Chimera fight took 8 attempts. Explained many times to them that you had to run from the chimera when he cast Ram's voice and had to hug when he cast dragon's something. Tank & Healer ate everything despite explaining to them numerous times.
Well, Chimera is a particular fight, theres no obvious AoE markers, players need to be attent to the message or check their chat log for the warnings, for new player this is quite a challenge, a healer ussually is looking at the party heal a tank attention is split between cooldowns and chimera AoEs
I like queuing for Trial Roulette, the fights are quick and fun. Got Ifrit HM. Easy, even with newbies. I was paired with another WHM.
I noticed people start going down fast because they can't dodge all the stuff. I got out of CS and went full on healer. I struggled keeping everyone up and was curious why no other heals. I assumed the other WHM was simply DPSing until I saw no CS. WTF? I am running around like crazy, people are losing HP and we are killing ifrit so slow. Get to nails and they won't die. I pop medica 2 and go to town because our DPS just was not cutting it. They were actually trying though. Still no idea what other WHM was doing.
Got the nails down just in time and Ifrit does his thing. We continue on this endless struggle. I am healing like crazy and burning MP.
We manage to beat the trial and everyone cheers. I thank everyone for their awesome work and go to leave and get 7 Commendations. That made me shine with pride at least!
This reminds me of an old Darkhold run I had ages ago, where the tank was also eating all aoe possible and standing outside the light. I asked him if he could please dodge a few and he replied "but I have to, I'm a tank". Funny enough, he was serious and genuine, thought his role meant to literally shield the party and take their damage. I explained that was not the case, yes hold the monsters but taking damage meant more healing, therefore more hate loss. He understood, apologized, good times, I laughed, he laughed, the table laughed...
Well, there are people out there thinking that the last skill you learn is the best one because you learn it at such a high level.
Like, "Read the description? HA, reading is for pussies, it's totally obvious that Chaos Thrust is better than Heavy Thrust 'cause I learn the former at level 50 and the latter at level 12. CHAOS THRUST SPAM ALL THE WAY!"
Was in the leveling roulette on my 25 Rogue, and Ifrit came up. The tank charged in like normal, and I was almost immediately having trouble lining up because they kept spinning Ifrit around. Then the other DPS in our group pulled aggro and started trying to kite, while I ran behind Ifrit stabbing him in the back occasionally. After awhile of this nonsense and the tank seemingly doing nothing to get aggro back, the other DPS asked in party chat what they should do. Around that time I got Ifrit's attention and announced that it was time for Rogue tanking. It had been a couple of minutes without the tank being able to do anything successfully, so I figured we were just going to have to roll with that. We just barely managed to get the Infernal Nail destroyed in time to avoid wiping from that, and somehow completed the trial with my Rogue tanking Ifrit for about 80% of the time. That was the most heartfelt commendation of a healer that I've had in a long time.
I had the biggest squee of my FFXIV career a couple weeks ago when I got into a normal Sastasha with three people new to the game AND were willing to learn. Taught the tank a bit about controlling hate and that things with "enmity" in the description were their friends, taught the ACNs about proper Carbuncle usage, gave them the tutorial for all the bosses. They were happy too when I told them never to be afraid to ask questions since most people will help, they said they came from WoW where asking for help was slang for "kick me from the group."
It went so much better than most of my groups do.
Ran Alex 3 last night as BRD. Got myself oneshot by the tether because I couldn't find the tank to pass it on to. Raised, continue on long enough to lose the weakness debuff. In the final phase, I get the + on me and one of the healers gets the - but I didn't realize that it was me because I was standing in the gaggle of melee at the time. We get hit, the healer starts spamming the "fails to understand you" emote at me. As I am looking for the emote to do it back at them I get hit by something and die again. Healer proceeds to laugh at me, the other healer raises me. I deliberately take a long time to accept because by this point I'm getting slightly annoyed. Finally I raise, spend a few moments spamming the "fails to understand you" emote back at the first healer, then get hit by something and die again because I never got healed to a survivable hp. The healer who raised me does a :3 in chat and I respawn at start because the fight is almost over anyway and with the double weakness debuff I'd be next to useless so raising me again would be a waste of mp.
I got a comm. xD
Queued as tank for low level for quick queues, instantly regretted it because I didn't feel like tanking but it's TOO LATE the queue popped.
While loading in I'm just going "please be Sastasha" but nope. It's the Vault. Yaaaaay- wait I've never tanked the Vault.
Welp.
Either way it went smooth, no one ever died... I never lost hate... I only got hit by one of those knight pieces in the last battle once. It was great. \o/
Made a looong thing regarding the whole "supertank" thing, but hey... that was a couple of days and two pages (on 'max posts per page' settings), so meh. TL;DR: Not everyone knows the term automatically, not everyone is an A1 veteran, not everyone has the courage to speak up and ask 'stupid questions' because doing that has made people in the past call them stupid. And not everyone (especially not someone who clearly doesn't have the courage to ask) has the courage to admit they made the wrong assumption. =)
I prefer to go OT; I usually grab the adds and just keep 'em away, and about half of the healing on me is from self-heals (unless dps is low so I get too many adds on me). But as long as I know the MT is planning on grabbing the adds as well, I'll let them do that.
Would probably have responded to the original suggestion/question with, "Go ahead, I'll grab adds" (which would have made clear I had no idea they meant solotanking) or -- since I'm aware there is a solotank strategy with tanks geared/comfortable enough -- "Go ahead, do I grab adds or am I just a really tough dps?" Basically cos I hadn't run into the term before at all, so... I prefer to know the plan in terms I do understand. ^^;
Well.... It could be an alt, made by someone who is more comfortable with the "one job per character" structure that other games have going. But... One would think that they in that case would have researched which classes they'd need for crossclass, and picked one of those to get to HW with... Which would, coincidentally, have given them tanking experience if they didn't have that from other characters. So yeah, not much speaking in that person's defence ^^;
Yeah... sometimes it feels like that here, too >.< And while you should know your job by the time you get to the 50+ dungeons (which you weren't in, I'm not saying I think that), everyone is in a place for the first time at some point, and might need tips. Or they've recently acquired a new skill/spell they haven't gotten the hang of yet (not at all looking at BLM, who doesn't get full use of their 51+ skills until level 60 since so many of them depend on the other ones).
I like to help new people, and people who instantly respond to questions with snide comments along the lines of "scrub" or "l2p" or "moron"... They really irk me. Same with the people who vote abandon after the first or second wipe on something where one or more players are new to that instance. I'm more a "brush yourselves off, let's go again" kind of person ^^;
I think one of my fondest memories was from....more than a year ago, I think. Got Sastasha (normal) on my roulette while levelling MRD/WAR on one of my alts. Ended up with three sproutlings, and we had a really fun time taking it slow, running into every side room, even having a bit of fun in the captain's room (the one with the desk and the treasure). Gave a few tips on their classes, and which other class they'd need to pick up for when they got to level 30, and just generally had a good time, even if we had less than 20 minutes to kill the last boss. I walked away with three commendations, but that really wasn't why I did it ^^; It did feel good knowing that my part in the run was appreciated.
Sastasha NM. SMN tells the Tank, Raisins? Aggro the first group of mobs and everyone is attack the mobs but the tank. Healing and DPSs, I though the tank went AFK without saying a word. When the SMN asks if he was afk, the tank comes out and says that he wanted the SMN to die and that he pissed him off. Tank drops, and I'm like, "Seriously.." We 3 man the Dungeon with an AST (me), DRG and SMN. After the second boss, I managed to get a friend to join and complete the dungeon. People get salty for no reason. How do you get pissed off because someone says, "Raisins tank?"
Main Scenario Roulette. Got Castrum Meridanum.
Had a Roe tank pause and said that he had to be properly prepared to fight Livia. So he proceeded to strip down and dance in front of her during cannon phase. >_>
