Rokien, I agree with you in some of your opinions and surely share the same fears about ARR, so take this not as a troll post but as serious recomendations:

Play if you haven't Dark Souls/Demons Souls and even stay for the PvP in Dark, they are challenging, fun and innovate games, just not the usual concept of MMO, but with certain elements, I think you'd like them. Also the Wakfu MMO is pretty fun, or you could always get your fun in Ragnarok Online, those games are alike, but not the same as the game style Everquest spawned, and well, not a mmo but a really great game with a great story and... well, other elements that I won't spoil for you: Spec Ops: The Line.
