Keep the Egi, reskin a few things and rename it Necromancer. DoTs the job.
AST is basically this game's Time Mage.

LOL I didnt even think about this when I saw it but now that you pointed it out.. lol.. oh man XD. Ninja, the better summoner :P.
The bahamut attacks are pretty cool but the ninja skill definitely has a strong summon feeling, and the egi are jokes (visually/in presence feel, imo), so summoner planks hard on bahamut's skills lol.
Add more pets, and reskin and model the pets for higher visual variation, add nearly all the damage of the job to relate to pets, rename it Demonology Warlock from WoW. :3
Sorry couldn't help myself lol, of course there are a few more differences but at the same time for those who haven't played it - they're shockingly similar (especially depending on which tree you're comparing the current version to).
so, another expansion coming.... and who wanna bet that they will yet again give some random skills to smn, but nothing that interacts with the pets... meanwhile, sch got one on 3.0, and will get another on 4.0 ... at this point smn might as well be bahamut's mage or something and become another job
Square EnixFFXIV's development team had no clue on how to create a pet job and their only fix is to keep throwing Bahamut skills at it until people stop complaining.... The real sad thing is the community has provided many great ideas for the job.
Necromancer is what the job should have been. Up until Dreadwyrm Trance, nearly all of their abilities would have been thematically fitting for a Necromancer. And the way the pets were designed wouldn't be nearly as concerning when they are presented as undead minions.
I know the benchmark trailer isn't showing us everything, but to pick one thing to get people hyped, what we saw for Summoner looked the least inspired compared to all other new abilities that were shown. I hope to see something more impressive during the full preview we should be seeing next month.
Did this thread really need to get revived?
People make new thread: "why do people keep making threads on this?"
People post in old thread: "did you need to post in this thread?"
Can't win.
On topic, only thing we saw of SMN was what I assume was ruin 4? It's obviously not everything SMN is getting but it's really looking like they're sticking with SMN being the focus and pet being side lined.
