Isn't that what devs gave you Rescue for? =p
i get it: you wanna level up with your SO and do dungeons together but when one half of you literally does not know the BASICS of a rotation at lvl70 there is a absolutely no excuse. skalla run, two blms, one significantly better than the other who i would have Loved to kick but knew it wouldnt go through. this run took twice as long (about an hour) bc the dps was painfully bad; bosses died horribly slow and i wanted to punch my teeth out tbh. i offered tips, and the good blm responded with "i'm giving them tips." im assuming about how to blm, but it'd be nice if they actually knew what they were doing beforehand... for 70 levels.
Healing O3N as WHM, helping a friend farm for some springs to buy tank pants. My friend is MTing and another friend is DPSing.
We queue in and say hi, the other tank is a WAR in Deliverance so no fighting about who is MT/OT. My coheal is another WHM who is standing still not doing anything at all. We ask her if she's okay and my when we get nothing back my tank friend asks me if I would solo heal it.
I say sure, pull commences. We are doing fine, I obviously have to scale back my DPS a bit but it's no biggie. Lots of frogs all around, as we get ready to move into the mountain phase my coheal returns. I heal the Queen's Waltz with a Largress'd Medica II (as I almost always do, it's nice having it on MT and OT for the dragon so I can DPS a bit more) and the OT doesn't get the dragon.
With all those HoTs ticking guess who does pick up the dragon?
I try to move towards the back of the second middle blue square in an effort to not cleave the group with breath. I had just raised my coheal but she wasn't up yet, I figure if I die we have her and a RDM who might pick me back up.
The next part was unclear during but I watched it back now. The OT takes the dragon off me right before it's breath attack, it turns a bit and cleaves like half the group including me, my weakened cohealer and the RDM. Our SAM friend is next to die, we wipe.
I haven't seen a wipe to this in a long time. I don't have much else to say on it. We cleared the next pull because the OT did their job but my coheal never got any better. Between me and the RDM she had to get about 5 raises. No new player message, no heads up from her that she didn't know the fight, nothing.
I am not the best player out there but in content I know I will throw my cohealer on my shoulders and carry them to the very best of my ability if they tell me they need help. Not that O3N is a hard fight but I basically did carry this girl. My problem is that she had time to write profanity and tell people to "eat her butt" (without the censorship) in party chat but couldn't be bothered to say she was new or needed help or even a 'thanks!' to the group that literally carried her through.
2 springs drop. My friend gets neither, they go to the OT and my cohealer.
I think Yoshi-P hates me ;-;
Note to self: Don't try and do Expert Roulette even as a tank if there's less than an hour left on the clock before emergency maintenace... Our SCH seems to be having a tough time with the final boss (plus one wipe earlier because I pulled a bit too big but I accounted for that). Temple of the Fist. Both times I try to keep the group alive on the final boss after the SCH bit the dust (our DPS were SAM/BRD, so no extra ress available, woulda loved a SMN/RDM there Yoshi-P!). First attempt at final boss, after the healer dies, I lose the BRD next, then the SAM. I manage to solo it from 20% to 1% (cue "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" as I fall at 1%). Second time round goes even worse as I lose the SAM/BRD at the same time (after the SCH).
Then BRD leaves (you'll see why in a bit). We get a NIN. Game has already said "We will be starting maintenance now." - we're like "Don't know if we'll get to kill it in time but let's try our best". We pull, 5% in the SCH dc's. Then the SAM and NIN dc together at 93%. My thoughts "Oh no oh no oh no, can I solo this?" - I get to the collecting his chakra part. Start collecting. 90k myself. Cue profanity. Lesson learned game, lesson learned. We tried our best though, and no hard feelings to anyone in that group. I just don't think it was meant to be.
A few days ago, I went into O2N as my warrior. Middle of the day (Hooray for gardening leave!), wanted something fast and easy to get me closer to my Mecha-Bear, and I thought that everyone knew the fight by now. It's not hard, right?
Right?
Wrong. So the other tank, the healers and 2 of the DPS failed almost every single mechanic. We're about 60% through. We hit the 2nd wave of Epicenters, and the party wipes. All but me and the 2 DPS. 15% later, one of the DPS dies. Just me as a WAR and a Ninja. We won, because self-healing Defiance is the god-king of casual content. Aside from the massive ego-boost and axe-stroking of the win, I left feeling indescribable that there was no communication. No questions, no 'what am I missing?'. You'd think after missing things like that you'd have asked!
I'm honestly convinced, after 4ish years in this game, that rng is specifically set to give bads all the loot. Seems to happen every time in any kind of content for me, and boy do I feel it hard in O4N. ;_;
(have lost who knows how many high rolls on shafts to the healer or dps who was eating the floor for the majority of the fight)
Always a bad assumption. Some people come and go. Some are new and just reaching content. Some make their way very slowly through the content. Some take longer to learn a fight even if it isn't their fist time.
A lot of people take having one or more max level jobs and no bonus as meaning a player is familiar and comfortable with a particular instance, but that's not always true. However...
Whether they are new, returning, or rusty, if they need help or aren't sure what to do it can't hurt to ask for help before a run or after a wipe. If there was no wipe they may have been too busy to type, but yeah, if they are dead they have plenty of time. Many people though are embarrassed or shy. Others just don't care as long as they get carried. Can be hard to tell shy/embarrassed from lazy/indifferent.
Rabanastre as SCH. Actually, it wasn't bad at all. There were no wipes, and I only died once during the entire run (and not even to Hashmal). I'm just here because, since my co-healer was also a SCH and we weren't the MTing alliance, I found myself... Irritated, at how useless Aetherpact is. Because seriously? For the majority of that run, I was sitting on a full Faerie Gauge with absolutely no use for it. Why is a level 70 skill so useless? WHY?
Also, the incredibly stupid mistranslations on Argath's face mechanic. Fix them.
I've had a bad experience with Summoners lately.
First, Sohr Khai as AST for the last bit of XP I needed to hit 70. PLD and BLM were great but everything was still dying really slowly. Why? The SMN.
No pets. Bio only. Final Destination.
Mentor Crown too. Naturally.
Second, World of Darkness. Trying to get the weekly down in preparation for doing my BRD anima. The run is a little chaotic but manageable. Until Cerberus.
Nobody picks up the flowers so they come over and eat my face. I *ahem* inform the group that they should be picking up and killing the flowers and the SMN in my alliance says, no joke.
"What are flowers?"
Not "What flowers" but "What are flowers". I didn't see what his/her language settings were but if you're fluent enough in English to say that much with proper capitalization and punctuation I find it hard to believe you don't know what flowers are.
We wipe. Waiting for the last few stragglers to return and get back tot he arena. The SMN pulls the boss. I'm half tempted to sit out and lock myself out but I don't. Flowers are still going crazy since even though a tank did grab them nobody else but me, on AST still, is hitting them. Halfway through the fight the someone says in alliance chat. "We left someone behind."
Naturally, it was the SMN who pulled. I called them out on that.
Then we almost had a 1% wipe on CoD because nobody stood in towers.
I really have no interest in voicing any complains about players but I keep reading this thread hoping to recognize some instances.
Me and three friends sign up for thornmach had ( one friend is new) and right after everyone gets done watching the cut scene the non friend healer immediately starts spamming medica 2 until they’re out of mana. When the king shows up they start spamming holy until they’re out of mana. My healer friend asks them to stop and the other healer responds that they should dps as a healer. Holy would have been fine but I’m pretty sure the moogles were not going to stay grouped up for it. At the end of the fight, this healer gets praised for what they did. I mean, what the didle doop that was weird.
If we are going in Omega Savage and someone puts a '1' or '2' marker down and asks you to stand in your spot around the marker, please do it so everybody knows what your position is. When both the party leader that you joined and myself are requesting you do it so everybody knows where they are supposed to stand, don't be an ass simply because you don't feel like doing it. And on another note, don't be the ass that refuses to move out of the OT spot that was already called. This is the first time I've been in a party that disbanded because people wouldn't choose their spots. I hope this is not indicative of the servers these players I dealt with came from.
This is a doozy. Strap in, folks.
Finally decided to try some extreme primal content after holding out on it for a while. Studied up on a video or two beforehand. Excited! Went through PF for Susano Ex today for a few hours, learning and clearing. Ran into a lot of helpful people. Some groups were good, most were downright awful but that's how it is sometimes. I know I wasn't 100% but I know my mechanics well enough. At some point, I started a party of my own in PF since no one else had one up for Susano. Here's where the fun starts.
A WHM joined in, said they were gonna go AFK. We waited a good 10+ minutes. No response, didn't even say what they were going AFK for. I think they mentioned something about food but I honestly can't remember. Group was full, people were getting antsy. So I kicked the WHM. I didn't think it was unreasonable. Why join PF if you know you're gonna be away in advance anyway?
One or two parties later (I jumped around a lot today), I joined a group and that same WHM (who I will refer to as S from now on) was one of the healers.
"Oh, if it isn't that buttface Saskia? You slimy miscreant." (I swear, this is almost word for word what they said lol)
I thought they were joking at first. Nope, they were very serious. They raked me over the coals for kicking them maybe an hour or two earlier in a completely different party. "Why didn't you wait? I said I was going AFK. Let's just kick S from the party because everyone hates her anyway." I was seriously confused. I was more amused than actually offended at first because they were being so dramatic.
Group disbands after a wipe. Think that'd be the end of it. NOPE. S was in the next group. And the one after that. And the one after that. There was seriously no escape, no matter what party I went to. And every time I loaded into a group, S would flip their shit.
"Saskia wiped our party 3 times in the last group."
"Saskia is cursed, don't party with her."
"Saskia trash talked the tank, bragging about how much more DPS she was doing than he was." (I don't even???)
If another player died to a mechanic, it was automatically my fault. "Told you Saskia would wipe the party!" S would not rez me. Not once. It was always the other healer, even if they'd just Swiftcasted someone else. In one case, I missed the entire second phase of Susano Ex because they just left me there dead. I only got healing if I stayed in the AoE zone. At the end of that particular instance, S said something to the degree of "Left Saskia dead long enough for us to clear."
The real good part was when I joined a group and while everyone else was telling me hello, S went off on me with this little gem: "Saskia is a trash party leader, a trash player, and a trash person. That's just how it is. I'm not being inflammatory." No one else asked what the hell was going on or anything, so that was a bit of a downer. Just everyone watching me get insulted lol. I don't blame them because holy hell, I have no idea myself.
I'd never met this WHM until today. We're not even on the same server. It's shit like this that reminds me why I stayed away from harder content in the first place.
Shame you're on a different datacentre to me, I'd be willing to help you out. I'm also a healer. Though you could have done well to apologise and say "Sorry, but the group really wants to start and we haven't heard back from you, can you confirm if you're back or not?" (assuming you could, I'm not sure how things get clogged up when it's a person on another realm) and if you didn't get a response, then kick her. But for her to go on the tirade she did. Blimey! Had it been me I'd have been like "Ah, Saskia, sorry about going AFK in that last party, something cropped up!" - wouldn't have done what she did.
Got Sohm Al for roulettes as RDM. We get to the first boss, and all is well. A few seconds in, I draw aggro, displace backwards, flip back out through the entrance, which then closes.
The only other time something like this has happened is when I flipped backwards off the edge in Titan HM
Hey, found the legendary "hardcasting Veraero/thunder RDM" in Brayflox today.
After I tried autotranslating some advice, I saw one jolt... not setting up a dualcast but spending it.
This game makes me consider learning French, so I could help all the bads I meet.
On another note, what is it with Red Mages reflexively running away from my Dragon Sight even after an explanation?
BLM? Keeps aethermanipulating to me o make sure not to lose the thread.
NIN? Foregoes his own positionals to stick close (ok that one is a bit overkill, the thread is still pretty long, you don't need to be in hugging range).
RDM? Displace NOPE out of there as soon as the thread shows up.
Every. single. one.
Well, at least I have DRG at 70 now, no more STR leveling gear to lug around.
So today, I ran Rabanastre, again, as SCH, again. To make it simple: lots of DPS died for very stupid reasons. Such as: standing in perfectly avoidable AoEs, and perhaps the most infuriating: attacking the boss the moment they ress, even when said boss is in the middle of an unavoidable AoE and I can't heal them.
Annoyed by this, I decided to go back into Rabanastre, this time as a BLM, just to prove to myself that it was just those DPS being godawful-terrible and not the difference in our roles.
On one hand, I did, indeed, manage to prove that Rabanastre is that simple, even as the least mobile DPS job in the game. On the other, A's tank was new, still using an ilvl 285 sword and boots, insisted on MTing, drove B's (my) tank to ragequit, and apparently half of A decided to troll everyone by refusing to contribute in any way, which became more and more apparent as time went on.
I understand the ways in which this can be abused, but can we please just have the option to kick people from other alliances? Especially if the only decent people in said alliance are constantly being outvoted by the griefers.
It amazes me how salty someone can get simply because you eventually removed them and replaced them for the party since they were AFK for a long time. You can't join a PF expecting to AFK for like 10 mins and expect 7 other people to wait for you indefinitely. If you aren't ready to play the game (minus obvious stuff like bathroom breaks which shouldn't take you 10 mins) then don't join the PF. Simple.
If I had been any of the party leaders for those PFs I would have kicked that WHM for trying to start drama.
Week 3 of patch 4.1:
RDMs still haven't caught onto the fact that they can literally prevent wipes by missing a couple GCDs - I have tried to tell some, with varying degrees of success. I guess until we vastly outgear rabanastre I'll be on full time rezzing duty, when it comes to the second boss at least.
On a more positive note, I seem to find more and more ASTs willing to change from nocturnal to diurnal sect if the situation calls for such - time to give SCH a try again, hopefully with minimal DF-induced hair pulling!
I usually have good, or at least decent, parties in duty finder, though I’ve had a couple lately that really pushed the wrong buttons. Yesterday morning, I’m healing some random Deltascape normals with an FC mate who wanted parts. We land in V4, and I had only been in there once before. Well, my targeting was sticking, and I didn’t clear off the Doom. I’m not sure why my cohealer couldn’t, but whatever. People die. I die somewhere along the line and, before we can fully recover, half the party, including my cohealer, is down. It’s clearly going to be a wipe, and I own up to making the mistakes that started the downward slide. So, we reset, and round two starts. Things are going well, I cleanse Doom, and we’re doing fine. I get low on MP, pop Lucid and a Ewer card, and go from maybe 5% to nearly full. During mechanic dodging, two dps and my cohealer get marked with the meteor indicators, so they should spread out, right? Nope, they proceed to all run in the same direction and die instantly. Meanwhile, I’m dodging mechanics and can’t fling a raise. The moment I can, I do, but this warrior decides to snarkily point out in two word per line phrases that I’m an AST and that I have full mana. We still wipe, and I’m beyond frustrated at this point. I thanked the warrior for their snapshot analysis and left the party. I had made mistakes, yes, and I owned up to them. I’m far from perfect, but I don’t need to be judged off a three second analysis of my performance.
Second story, just now. I queued for Leveling on my pally and got Shisui. That’s fine by me, nice and easy dungeon. We get to the second boss, and suddenly I’m dealing with the explosion mechanic that chases the dps around the room. No, the summoner is still alive and there’s my chocobo-clad healer. Ah, the monk is faded, meaning he released and returned to the start of the dungeon. Okay, we got this, and the boss is finished with three people. Fast forward to the end boss. The healer is /cheer’ing at me (dunno why, I didn’t do anything overly special) and /slap’ping at the monk (which makes me think he released on purpose, ignoring her raise). I wait until everyone has Protect, then pull. About the point the Chum (Churn?) bubble mobs spawn, I notice they’re not dying very fast. Nasty suspicion time, so I look, and yep, the monk is on the wrong side of the barrier. Sunofa... Okay, time to do this crap again. Amazingly, we don’t wipe and nobody dies, despite a couple of very close calls. To that white mage on Cactuar, mad props, you did great. The bombfish minion dropped, and the monk got it. Icing on the cake? The monk is a mentor... from Gilgamesh. It felt very good filing that report, I must admit.
RDMs are capable of far more than most people playing them seem to realize. Either that, or they know this and don't really care. I leveled RDM to 70 and I knew they could pocket heal, raise, buff and dps way before I even hit max level. This is why we need a mandatory hall of the novice tutorial for every class, maybe have people do a short instance every 10 levels to make sure they know their stuff.
I can recall one time I was running a trial on a noct ast with a whm that was going badly because the mt wasn't keeping the boss in place. Whm eventually left and got replaced by a sch, but the tank pulled the boss before I could change sects. We wiped two more times and lo and behold tank pulls as soon as they could before we could even get a protect in. I figured they were just doing it at that point so nobody would leave. After ANOTHER wipe I had the duty window open as soon as the screen faded in and just left.
I spent all Saturday powering through levels 66-70 on my White Mage, since I needed to get gear as well as XP I was only running the highest level dungeon i could (instead of roulette). As a result I saw quite a few tanks.
After a few runs with Dark Knight Tanks I started to wonder if there was something fundamentally wrong with the class. It was just so much more difficult to work with them and heal them even when their gear was more than sufficient. So when I started the duty and saw a Dark Knight up front I thought to myself "Oh boy, here we go again".
Man was I ever wrong.
Where other Dark Knights seemed to be made of paper, this guy was made of pure unyielding iron (and I don't think he was even level synched). I think the only thing I had to do was Regen, Cure II to proc a lily and DB to use the lily. It was nuts. I made a point of telling him how impressed I was at the job he was doing.
He, and another DK I ran into later, made me have to reconsider my earlier assessment of the job and certainly for the better.
Second short story: I was playing Red Mage in a DF party on friday and I was super excited after finishing a slow and rough Dungeon, I felt I had just 'carried' the damage for a group for the first time and was feeling particularly proud of myself =)
I'm guilty of both those things.
And I'm guilty of running away from the Dragoon buff that the guy mentions on page 1265.
In my defense I've only ever done those things once each. But the backflip out of the room caused a complete wipe because the tank and healer both admitted they were laughing too hard to play properly.
I've not fallen off the platform in Titan(HM or EX) while using Displacement...did stand with my toes holding me solidly on the platform, but not falling. Did however fall off in Lakshmi EX though. Just as I was about to use it, she decided to move as I pushed the button...flew right past the tanks into open air.
It has been a while since I’ve posted in here. Not many of my runs have been very Duty Finder Thread worthy, but I figured this one could potentially be~.
Helping a friend with WT, and they had the Level 61-69 Dungeons, so we queued for Sirensong, Shisui, and Bardam’s, and were going to take whichever one popped (they were leveling their MNK, which is level 65). Bardam’s popped, and we zone in.
Now, we had to requeue, because the first time Bardam’s popped, the tank apparently had blacklisted the healer, and “disconnected” right at the beginning of the dungeon. The healer explained to us that they’d had a disagreement in another instance, but that he wasn’t too bothered like the tank apparently had been. Healer takes the 30 minute penalty, and then my friend and I requeue again. We were honestly going to suggest that we try to see how far we could get while waiting for a tank, but they had already left.
Second time into Bardam’s Mettle (it had popped again, out of the three), and the tank runs off to do the standard, two-pack large pull there. Well, they are having troubles holding hate, and then drop like a fly almost immediately. We respawn with them saying they’ll pull less. I take a look at their gear: left side is 270 Shire, so pretty standard, then I look at their right side... and they are wearing Makai accessories. And an Unaugmented 230 Lore bracelet, and an i215 dungeon ring. The healer pipes up and says that they (the tank) aren’t really geared to handle large pulls, and the tank acknowledges that they knew that. So meanwhile, I’m sitting here thinking to myself: “You knew you were wearing crappy gear, and still tried to do large pulls anyways?!” They ended up getting a ring from the dungeon, so they switched it out... but put on the Brand New Ring as their other ring... We let them know about that during the second boss, and they apologized. I was still kind of like “Really????” though. Because the ring they had replaced with the Brand New Ring had been the i215 one, and their i276 ring from the dungeon had replaced a Makai ring. How had they not noticed that?! I mean, they weren’t mean, and the healer was way more patient than I would have been, but still....
They struggled for aggro the entire time. I can’t remember what their weapon was off the top of my head, but they weren’t switching targets so I couldn’t really use any AOE (I had rolled RDM) without ripping aggro. Lucid and Diversion were constantly on cooldown. And, the embarrassingly funny part of this was—when they lost hate on the initial pull, I wondered to myself why my weapon looked different...and I suddenly remembered that I had queued in without replacing my weapon: I was sporting the Shiva weapon that had dropped from the Shiva EX we had done before the dungeon. XD.
Still mildly concerning that I had ripped with an i110 weapon on though...
Was doing Rabanastre last night and on the 2nd boss as he was casting Rock Cutter for some reason out of the ether my whole party decided to just get next to me and they all died. I have no idea if I was being trolled or not but I managed to keep myself up with clemency and HG while the other party was getting up my group. No idea why but every time I do that fight I have to remind people not to get in front of him and yet I still see people doing it and die.
At least my pants dropped at the end :D
Royal City of Rabanastre, one of our DPS drops from party right after we finish the first boss. Surprise surprise, he was the one to get the loot drop from said boss.
If we were on the same data center, I would have thought we encountered the same person. I never posted it because it was through party finder and not duty finder, but I suppose it's relevant now.
A few people from my FC and I were pugging our O2S clear for that week. There were 3 pugs in our group. We wiped a few times, and we decided to disband and remake. We informed the group of this, and did so.
After remaking, my wife got a /tell from a couple of our friends that someone was shouting in multiple cities the following:
Then people in the novice network were informing us of this person. Lo and behold, it was the red mage from the O2S group we just disbanded.Quote:
Ok just a heads up 4 ppl who dont know..... [My wife's name] is a str8 up liar and cant be trusted
I tried to be diplomatic and messaged her, just in case something was misunderstood. The red mage believed that we only kicked her (since we filled up a new group so quickly. btw, that group one-shot it.), and that it was personal. I told her it wasn't, and I actually showed her screenshots proving that we disbanded and reformed, and she still said I was a liar. At this point I assumed she was trolling, but she continued teleporting to cities and repeating the same message as above. She also said she would report me for harassment for trying to get her to stop trash talking my wife.
We ended up reporting and blacklisting her, but wow, that was the biggest meltdown I've seen from someone over something so minor on this game.
Did Main Scenario Roulette earlier, phase in and right off the bat a tank announces that they're going to be afk "to handle a work call".
We make it through the entire dang dungeon, and by Gaius this tank has still not lifted a finger to contribute. I initiate a votekick for being afk at Ultima, and am immediately met with multiple people outraged that anyone would kick them "wth they're not afk they're doing work". Of course as soon as I do that this tank suddenly finishes work and starts tanking! What a magic trick.
Sorry I don't like giving clears to people who aren't even playing. Tanks especially since their q's are always quick, they should have their ducks in a row before they sign up for stuff.
