just grow uo already...... when I play the game ima have all the time I want to play it. I will prob play 20 hours or so and I still want stuff everyoine can do. I have a right to post as I want that game to be good when I can play. Say that crap when I complain the game sucks.

When they made XI more friendly to everyone I imagine it had less to do with currently casual players whining and more to do with they needed to attract more people to keep from merging servers.

Casuals originated in the plains and highlands of Vylbrand, living in small settlements around O'Ghomorro. They lived under a small tribal government structure and were less technologically and magically advanced than even the beastmen of their time. They lived a simple life based on subsistence farming.

They were first captured and brought to mainland Eorzea on slave ships by the pirates of Limsa Lominsa 150 years before present. They were brought in Chocobo caravans to the merchants of Ul'Dah and auctioned off where the Ruby Road Exchange stands today. In fact the name Ruby Road came from the rubys that the merchants brought in as they auctioned off the best slaves. The ruling Syndicate of Ul'Dah was founded by the most successful casuals traders. For years casuals existed merely to serve at the whims of more successful citizens of Ul'dah.

Then came the Amaljina Defilement incident of '69. Amaljina was a slave who worked in the mines of Nanawa. One day Amaljina was working deep in the mines trying to pull out a chunk of mithril. He was a man of focus, having served in manual labor his whole life. He had to go to the bathroom but he ignored the urge. He didn't want to break his concentration. Finally nature had taken it's toll and he ran toward the mine entrance. Fearing he would lose it any moment, he darted into the nearest bathroom he could find. Unfortunately, all casuals were forced to use different restrooms than Ul'Dah citizens and the bathroom Amaljina ran into was one of those. Most casuals were forced to use crude wooden outhouses in the desert. The entire city of Ul'Dah was thrown into an uproar when word of Amaljina's defilement spread. It sparked a major uprising of casuals who eventually overthrew the royal guard and claimed their own freedom. Amaljina eventually set up Amaljina and Sons Mineral Concern and it is said that he frequently enjoyed saxophone music.

Since the Amaljina Incident life for casuals has steadily increased in ease. It is an age of new convenience for all, but some are not too happy. In particular the old elite of Ul'Dah feel as if the uprising of '69 never truly ended...

I think this extreme separation between "hardcores" and "casuals" needs to stop. It's ridiculously childish. Players will play how they want to play and if you don't like it, you have two options. You can either accept that the game has both types of players or you can leave and go play a "hardcore"/"casual" game....if there even is one that is distinct one way or the other.

since we sharing life story right now i'll share mine.
when i got ffxi i was told I could only play 2hrs a day. The reason was because I had to share the ps2 and internet. I saved up and got my own ps2 and abillity to access the net. I then could play 20hrs a day when I didn't have work.But due to the restrictions players only did events at night, I still didn't have access to much stuff fir that reason. I then found event shells that ran when I could do stuff. As years went buy ffxi slowly losing subs. Parties got harder to form, missions were hard to get help for. They changed them to allow more access. And infact most of the "hardcore" did smn burn parties because they wanted to get to end game faster. So it wasn't the casual who really did burn parties hardcore did also.


what the :casuals" want is the same access to content everyone else has. No one should be force to "choose not do it".

you guys are just using the cop changes as ammo. Not cool. What really happen is NO ONE could really beatr the missions. The people only did them with set groups. No matter who you were if you wasn't in a group you couldn't do it. No one helped with those fights after they beat them.

When cop came out I did have tons of time to play, and I still couldn't do cop. I either didn't have the right job or gear. I got sea access in either december or januray just recently because more ppl were willing to help with them.

And I was happy I could solo some of my sea missions, I wasn't that great of a solo'er. And I was far from a casual player.

yeah the cop thing had nothing to do with casuals

It was rediculously hard to begin with, people got mad cuz they werent able to experience the actual content

So they nerfed it, made it easy to beat

people were happy, you saw more then 5 of us in sea from that point on

5+ years down the line i guess they uncapped it, and i mean why not, but this point everyone had done it already for the most part anyway, its time to make it so everyone who didnt could go through without a cap

Nerfing content many years after its release has nothing to do with casual vs hardcore, just ease of access, and in the case of this content(cop) it was greatly justified

even the initial difficulty nerf made a ton of sense when you really looked at how damn hard it was to complete

and im super hardcore, i did ALL the cop content pre first nerf, and even i agreed with it

I can play this maybe 10 hours a week at most due to having a monday-friday job, but that said i dont see why everyone is so obsessed with catering to "casual" players like me.

Just because i can only play a couple of hours a week doesnt mean i want to be able to have everything handed to me on a plate. I hardly ever play this at the moment due to its current state, but i would play more if i had something challanging to aim for. But all the latest changes give the feeling that anything new will be able to be accomplished in under an hour. If i wanted something like that then why play a MMO and not DA2?

It is true that casual people are more like bodies to hardcore players than actually people they care about playing with. At least that's what I got from the Amaljina story. The difference between casual and hardcore is stupid...kinda of like this "kindergarten graduation" i heard about...I didn't go to kindergarten, wasn't necessary in Hawaii so excuse my ignorace, but I can't believe they give kids a sense of accomplishment for that LOL. This kindergarten graduation is not what I want for the game, I don't want someone to finish 8 guildleves in a day and get a rank and feel like they deserve any recognition for that, because it is time spent vs skill. I want someone to get credit for knowing there class well enough to survive fights and effectively vanquish foes, but in a game where mobs last 8 secs, and you are limited to 8 guildleves in a 36 hour period, how do you even technically know who's hardcore most of the time, there isn't anything to do. Its kindergarten graduation here man, amateur hour game.

Simple.. Scaling content.. Generally "Hardcore" players tend to prefer encounters that require large groups... Casual players, tend to prefer solo/small group content. It's not hard to design single player content that is as difficult for a single player as raid content is for raiders.

You have to remember, we all pay the same monthly fee (currently 0, but still)... unless you want to charge hardcore players more per month than casual players, the rewards should equally reflect the time invested.

No one cares how anyone plays, we just don't want 100% casual content like so many game devs are heading towards.
