Dungeon progress shouldn't be allowed while party members are watching cutscenes

Being in the inn is not the same as actually being in the dungeon for the first time and actually enjoying the cut-scenes and dungeon as a whole. It's how the game was made to play. I'll watch the cut-scenes in the inn AFTER my first run. Use your FC or friendslist if you want to speedrun stop being lazy.

Renting a movie to sit down and watch it with your friends isn't the same as running a dungeon in a video game, online, with strangers. That's how it's not the same.

It's merely an issue of communication and being considerate. Had either you asked to either skip, or not skip, there probably wouldn't be a problem. Just because he's too much of an ass to wait for you doesn't mean everyone should suffer through every single cut scene every time.

I have waited for people. I have also skipped ones that I desperately wanted to see, just because people asked me to. I watched it later. It wasn't my ideal way to experience it, but I tend to be considerate towards the majority of the group. I'm not saying it's not a douche move to move ahead when someone's watching. I'm saying it's a stupid expectation for them to remove this from the game because some people are inconvenienced by it.


That's like saying you shouldn't be able to leave a duty, because then others have to wait for a replacement.

You already can't even start the dungeon until everyone has either watched or skipped the opening cut scene, and honestly if you start a boss battle when everyone isn't ready, you're an idiot. So really, this entire thread is just about people complaining about other people being ***holes. Which is pointless.

I'm finished. I've proven my point with enough information to show that this is all irrelevant anyway.

Enjoy the game guys. Be considerate towards each other and these kinds of things won't matter.

To be fair that goes both ways if you want to watch the CS then take the time to find those who haven't done it yet and want to watch the CS, why rely on the Duty Finder to "hopefully" find 7 others that haven't progressed through it yet.

It's not fair on both sides, first timers can't complain to those that just want seals, because if they don't want to spend that extra 20-30mins waiting it's in their right to leave if they want just as it's in the right of a first timer to leave if they don't want to speedrun through it.

In my case, the first time I did the run I thought of the fairness and time associated with people who were doing it for seals and had no problem watching the CS at the inn, if I had planned to watch the CS in the dungeon I would of taken the time to find 7 others that wanted to go through the same experience rather than rely on Duty Finder to do that for me.

I honestly find it more unfair to make other people wait because one wants to watch all the CS cause unlike other dungeons, these CS do eat up a lot of time, in the past they aren't so bad because it's one CS at the end, but at this point in the game the CS do take up quite a bit of time, and if you add it up overtime even people who complain about wanting to watch the CS will be the very same people who end up ranting when first timers want to watch said CS after they've progressed through the dungeon for the 10-20th time.

I don't very much care what speed-running people want to do: they used the DF for a random person, and if they got me on my first time in the dungeon, I'm watching the cutscenes whether or not they can handle it. If they want a group to skip all the cutscenes, they can pre-form their own groups rather than force their attitude onto random people they end up being paired with in the finder tool.

If they pull the boss, welp, I won't be healing them I suppose as I'd be locked out.

Although I wouldn't like "Forced to watch" cutscenes, they should retain a skip option, but I am in support of halting the dungeon's timer and progress until everyone's either done watching or skipped it. I'll likely end up being someone hoping for fast groups who've done the dungeon before if I end up grinding it, but I wouldn't force first timers to skip the story portions. Asking's cool, so long as it's not phrased as "Skip or I leave" and is closer to "Would everyone mind skipping the cutscenes?" and if someone doesn't wish to, to not blow up at them or something. (I imagine both examples exist in the DF world of AK/other level 50 dungeons people farm/grind). (After all it is a game, and the game does have a story, so it's not a crime if someone wants to experience the story as it unfolds in the game they purchased).

You're entirely right, and I support your decision to NOT heal them even if you weren't locked out. No one should be pulling before everyone's ready.

SE needs to learn a lesson here and either make them unskippable or work on making them significantly shorter next time.

Key word here is first timers. You guys already beat the game LET THEM enjoy the LAST 2 dungeons. I encourage anyone who despises speedrunning during your first run of a dungeon to just leave. That's if you can wait the 15 minutes out. Go ahead if you want to continue but your first experience through these dungeons won't mean a thing. You'll probably care less about the ending.

This issue makes me sick, and I am not even to these dungeons yet!

When I get there, I am going to watch the cutscenes (not in an inn), and most likely others will not. We could both try to find groups that will cater to our need, but it won't always happen. And I get why they don't want to watch cutscenes a million times.

I won't want them to rush ahead, although they probably will. And I will get angry. Is it our faults? No, SE designed it without realizing this will happen. BUT that doesn't solve the problem. Just places blame. Bottom line: WE ALL HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT. I can't control what you do, and you can't control what I do. Don't want it that way, TOO BAD until SE fixes it.

These are the types of attitudes that cause problems in the first place. A little communication goes a long way. No one has to be outright stubborn right off the bat.

Alright I know I said I was done, but I'll make one final, simplified point using an example. Then I'm off.

Dungeon Scenario:

"Hey can you guys skip the cut scenes so we can do this faster"
"No I want to watch these I haven't seen them yet"
"You can watch them in the inn later."
"I don't care/I don't want to it's not the same."
"Whatever I'll just pull anyway."
[/end]

This is not a reason to change how something works. That's a breakdown in communication and general friendliness. This is a person to person issue, not a game issue. That is my one and only point.

Again guys, just be considerate. I'm enjoying this game as much as everyone else, and I hope you guys continue to do so. It's really not hard to be friendly and communicate. That goes for several aspects of the game.

I communicate, and I'm super nice and easy to pt with. I am all for talking it out civilized. Idk I just get so frustrated seeing these threads of back and forth with no resolution. That's why I usually like gamerescape forums, everyone is nice and polite. I apologize if my post came off super negative. I'm just talking out of my head.

This, i love how people try to feed you that "go watch CS in your inn" like you are obligated to not watch anything in their presence.

Lesson to every impaient fool along with this above poster's message. You will either deal with people enjoying the story or make your own group of people. Don't use DF for groups if you have issues with people actually enjoying the story. if i am watching a CS you will sit there and deal with it.

When everyone wants to skip it then the CS should then be skipped, even if there is one person that wants to watch it, tough luck because it is what FF games are about - stories.
Also some CS are not watchable in INN book, and the time and place of watching it depending on where you are in the current story makes a difference.

you can cough all you want but the fact remains if you want to speed run - find a full party of your own.

They need to implement a skip voting system where everyone has to agree, otherwise you cannot.

As someone who has been using Castrum to farm for Philosophy Tomes, I have to say I agree with the OP.

The reason I agree with them is that these two dungeons - no matter how useful they are to those of us gearing up - are the culmination of the entire storyline for players. This is it - the epic ending they've been struggling towards since they first set foot in the game! Everyone should have the opportunity to experience that epic feeling the first time they go through Castrum and Prae.

Just because I'd like a faster run doesn't mean I support being a jerk to people who are there for the first time. If it's the healer, I can solo heal most of the trash mobs. If it's a tank, and we have another well-geared tank, we can probably solo tank the trash mobs. And if it's a DPS, that's fine, too. People need to be more thoughtful of their fellow players. We're all here for the same reason, and we have all paid the same amount of money. Let the new players have their epic first time experience. It doesn't hurt you at all (and rushing probably will hurt you if you cause a wipe with it).

He did you a favor then, you don't even need to be associated with Ass holes like that, especially if he blisted you over something that stupid.

While it wont 'cure' the 'issue' people are having with watching/not-watching cutscenese I hope the new party finder system that is coming will help to alleviate this problem. It should then be much easier to find like minded people on your own server to run speed runs or 'cutscene based' runs. I was pressured to skip every cutscene in the dungeon but I didn't and I had a blast. Lucky for me I was a tank otherwise other people would have just ran thru them all. :\

I would say that in my opinion having party members progress and locking others out of a boss fight is closer to trolling than having to wait for someone to watch a cut-scene to progress through a dungeon.

It doesn't cause problems in other games that have a voting system. If someone really wants to block progress of a group and grief like that there are already plenty of ways and no one complains about that.

To the people saying that if we want to watch the cutscenes we should just make a group: Has it occurred to you that maybe we're using the duty finder because the only reason we're joining a party at all is because the dungeon requires it? It seemed to me that the main reason the duty finder exists is to simplify partying for people who don't have any regulars they play with.

For the people saying that we'll get sick of the cutscenes once we start farming tomestones: You're making the assumption that we'll bother. Some people don't actually care about this 'endgame', whatever the hell that is. I've gotta say, that I've at least tried at least a half dozen mmos, and it's interesting that I still think my best experience was Ultima Online, which I don't think has anything resembling endgame. If it does, I certainly never got there.

And this is the problem having story/cutscenes in dungeons where you have multiple people playing together. While some may disagree with me, watching the cutscene itself is the selfish thing to do. 3-7 other people have probably already seen the cutscene and you watching it does nothing but make them waste time while they wait for you to watch the cutscene. If you want to watch the cutscene, go to your inn and watch it in its full length. First time or not, if you run a dungeon with other people, do everyone a favor and skip it. I don't understand why people are so inconsiderate in this game. I'm sorry to tell everyone, but this isn't a single player game. This is a game that involves playing with other people and the game doesn't revolve around you.

i agree with OP

there are some crucial cutscene > battle sequence that requires teamwork, for the example is the 2 colossus battle in castrum
after hitting the ship with cannons, the colossus are already active and will aggro whoever near them
if some party members are watching while the rest skipping the cutscene, the party will be screwed
it's because the ones who skipped will have to deal with the 2 colossus without the ones who are watching
and when the rest finished watching, they'll see that everyone have died, even including themselves

as for now, my tips for those who watch cutscenes is just skip this one
you can watch the rest, buy you'll have to skip this one cutscene in castrum
because there are always people who'll skip and get screwed

perhaps they can make it that if someone is still watching, we won't be able to skip the cutscene
or maybe the can make an invincible barrier around players in each cutscene just like in the beginning of the dungeon

I guess there is some hope here. It seems that the number of people that agree with selfish jerks is much smaller than the number of people who like the reasonable ones.

It's not just at level 50. I've had people rush into boss fights in far earlier dungeons (lvl20+).

There is a difference between watching the cutscenes as they are presented, as the events are happening, and watching them later in your inn. A toddler could understand that.

If you haven't the empathy to understand why people would want to watch cutscenes that are the culmination of countless hours of story quests, in a story dungeon, then you're just hopeless and probably have other problems related to a lack of empathy, like stealing.

I think players should be able to skip cutscenes, but rather than being let loose, they can't move until everyone is done with the cutscene, and it should show the cutscene symbol above everyone's head until the last person is finished so there's no discrimination. Problem solved.

I was locked out of 2nd boss because someone didn't want to watch cutscene. And they wiped because not enough DPS.

Our archer left. Apparently they didn't learn, as everyone went in without waiting for a replacement.

Wiped again.

Apparently people really enjoy watching their alter egos get electrocuted over and over.

We had ~ 4 mins to kill final boss (which we did). I just can't get this image out of my head that the person initiating the random charges was thinking...

You say that as if running the dungeon dozens of times is a foregone conclusion. I have zero intention of getting on the equipment treadmill. I see no reward in running a dungeon to the point that I'm sick of it, in order to get gear that lets me... run more dungeons until I'm sick of them in order to get more equipment. When I finish up that last quest, I'm either leveling a different job, or playing another game.

Honestly, I am on the side of those who believe people should skip cut scenes. The fact is, people just want to run the instance. Castrum isn't as bad as Praetorium in terms of cut scene longevity, but I just find it rude. When I did these dungeons for the first times, I felt it was proper and polite to skip them and watch them later in the inn at my own discretion. I could probably relate if there was no other way to watch them, but you do have a way and not everyone wants to sit and do a 1 hour run. The fault lies with SE in this design, so if you got an issue with it, ask for a solution from them - don't blame the people who just want to do the 99th run because its a way to get 100 tombstones.
