Yeah, playing with different people leads to different experiences for sure. :P I can see your logic in there, heh.
Ifrit has very sporadic spike damage so as long as you are prepared for that, you even have some time for ruin spamming. I generally save my stacks a bit more towards the end of my Aether cycles there (eg. having 2 stacks left at 15 secs to Aetherflow being up) compared to my usual more 'even-out' distribution of Aether during the 60s period of time, because those sporadic back to back incinerates can be a bit brutal - any excess stack can be ED'd or Soiled..
Pretty much how it goes for me is that I full on DPS in cleric's when a tank is at 0 or 1 stacks, up to when they get the 2nd stack, at which point I switch out of cleric's and then heal and get ready for that next healer swap. The stacks on the tank appear like 2 seconds before the actual incinerate is being cast, so you can pretty much swap out of cleric's and start healing when you see a stack pop up but before Ifrit has even done an incinerate - then even lustrate if need be as the heal lands. But usually, Regen on MT and manual 100% embrace up-time is pretty much enough for 0-1 stacks while you DPS, especially if the tank stoneskins themselves at times.
Just do the DPSing little by little to be comfortable, as it is likely not needed with a good group, but with subpar DPS - it can patch up some people who underperform. You will always have the time to dot up Ifrit when he turns around to do howls, as he does nothing to the tank then. Ruin 2 also helps because he can be blinded and thus he can miss an Incinerate. I am sure you know most of this if not all, so I am just pretty much typing this out of boredom at work.
Thanks to yourself too, maybe I'll see you on Phoenix later. :P
