RMT spam fixes need to happen sooner then later

Cool, daily routine continues. Log in, exit the Inn, face immediate wall of spam, spend 10 minutes trying to blist them all. Proceed with doing anything. Fun!

Can't wait to cap out my blist skill! Think it caps at 200!

We would like to apologize for the inconveniences that RMT spam has been causing. We are diligently investigating any incoming reports or sightings of RMT shouts and banning them as soon as possible. In addition, we are working on speeding up the investigation flow.

We understand that the current RMT shout/spam reporting procedure can be improved so we are working our hardest to implement a system that is faster and easier to report/block violators. With that said, we sincerely appreciate the assistance from those of you who have been submitting reports as we work towards improving the system.

We are also adding more complex chat filters to the already large list we have arranged in order to further prevent RMT spam. We will continue to do so in a manner that will not affect your normal conversations.

We appreciate your support and we will continue to put forth our best effort to alleviate RMT spam and maintain an enjoyable gameplay experience.

Just tell the GMs to look right where characters star their journey, some of them on Excal have been standing there for days with their gums flapping just begging to be slugged in the mouth.

Even if they could just give us some kind of filter to turn on for specific words or just an infinate b-list and one click b-listing. Something ANYTHING!111 lol

You have other issues beyond this you need to streamline the account recovery process. I have been banned/suspended for 4 days now because someone randomly hacked my account, and will be most likely for another week this is unacceptable.

What an RMT does while they have my account is not my fault, I have a token and even then I may lose all the years I put into XI and the time I spent in 1.0 just because of one person NO THANK YOU!!!

Tldr; FIX YOUr recovery process it only takes 1-6 hrs on WOW

The RMT is pretty out of hand atm, and while I understand systems have been put in place and being improved, it's getting to the point it's entirely hard to actually enjoy playing. Going to a city-state is a complete and utter nightmare. Add getting tells almost non-stop in some cases I get to the point I just have to log off. I fill up a BL and they just delete and create someone else and do it again.

And to think we fought gilsellers for a spot on the server to play at launch time. It's frustrating there's been a few things taken from other games here(not complaining I see it fine to copy what works), but right-click to report/ban isn't here.

In the interim please consider having a pro-active GM make sweeps daily through each town in each server. Right now you are basically saying the burdon is on the customer until you figure out a long term solution, which is lame. On average I have to blacklist 6 RMT a day just for shouting in town, seriously how hard would it be for a GM to make a sweep of each town on each server once or twice a day and get rid out the shouters?

I am sorry... but what? Incoming reports? "sightings"?

Why don't you just log into each server and visit each city for yourself? You cannot possibly miss the wall of spam that fills your chat window in every single city zone. Why should any of us have to file a report? Why are you guys just sitting around waiting for reports to come in? Be proactive on this, open your eyes and solve the problem.

Wow so this is all the response we get, nothing relevant for the past week, nothing about the accounts being stolen, nothing to show that anything is to be done in the near future....
And nice job on deleting threads where ppl are notifying about their accounts being stolen....

"Please look forward to it" isn't an appropriate response for a security breach...

And the RMT spam problem is only an after-effect of the security breach.

I can't resist it shouldn't be called the STF it should be called the STFU (Special task force Unit) cause we really want them tooo....

I just don't understand why they haven't implemented a timer to prevent people from shouting too often. 1 minute? Even 30 seconds would make a big difference in being able to grab the names of these spammers...

Would still do nothing about the fact that they are stolen accounts and the RMT are just running programs to do the /sh's on the compromised character. They aren't creating new characters, they are stealing already existing accounts.

What would be really cool is if a player gets blacklisted by a large amount of players (100+ seems reasonable to keep from abusing) issue a temp ban for investigation. If someone is getting mass blacklisted they are probably in violation anyway.

Just kind of tired of seeing the same names several days in a row spamming.

Yea that would be really cool when malicious players start temp-banning accounts for no reason what-so-ever...

And again ignoring the initial problem of the accounts being stolen because the after-effect 'annoys you'

Think they need to call over the RMT task Force from XI to get this ball cracking!!

U can come up with all the snide remarks you want, but your suggestion is utterly foolish because it can be exploited to make the problem worse instead of better. and again it's only to negate a secondary effect that is 'annoying you; and still ignoring the primary threat of the accounts being stolen to be used for the chat spam.

Gms are paid to be there, but refuse to proactively work on the problem. The secondary problem.

The primary problem is the accounts being stolen and SE still has no idea how that is happening.

If you really want players to report regularly, you set up achievements for the number of RMT reported and successfully banned. I'd start hunting RMT just for that.

What exactly is being done to investigate these banned accounts? I've been suspended since Friday and have yet to even receive an e-mail as to why my account has been banned. My ticket will be close shortly because they only keep them open for so long even if they don't get to them and good luck getting through on the chat/telephone system. Yes the primary problem is this gold seller spam is coming from hacked accounts. I've lost access to my XIV account and years of progress on XI. SE we deserve to know what you are doing about this. A rather generic response along the lines of there's this RMT problem and we're supposedly working on it is not good enough.

I talked to Se Support again earlier today. Your FFXI should still be able to be accessed (contrary to the statements on the link in the Lodestone). And they keep a different log of compromised accounts than just the support ticket u initially sent. So if your support ticket 'closes' it doesn't close the process of recovering your account, you'll still want your support ticket number obviously though so they can access what they need in their secondary log when u dont get ur e-mail or progress is taking forever (and with SE I would expect both to occur). Although it is pretty pathetic that it takes at least 2 business days for them to send out an automated response e-mail and then at least 7 more business days before they even start the recovery process. If you've never contacted a Support Center employee you still need to do so, and the phone support is the only part of SE Support that is doing anything about the situation. You're wasting your time w the Live Chat and the e-mail support because they are doing absolutely nothing. Live Support automatically drops your ticket because it automatically drops tickets that have been waiting for over an hour (which is currently all tickets). It is normally taking about 2 hours to get into their phone support and then addressing your issue.

I've already blacklisted about 37 gold sellers by now and the spam is seriously never-ending. One day of not going to a city and there's two or three gil sellers spamming repeatedly, blocking out all other conversations. Most of the time they move too fast to even blacklist efficiently. It's getting ridiculous. Something needs to be done.

Please also make sure you look into the reports of speed and warp hacking. I've already put in my report for a warp hacking incident and hope the perpetrator(s) get banned. Incidentally, the iron mining nodes outside of Copperbell Mines seem to be populated with mining bots as no one ever responded to me when I asked about them seeing (a confirmation) of the warp hacking.

I really think it's getting worse.

I turned off shouts, till that last big patch. now I'm getting tells and shouts. Blisting them all isn't a option.

What i would like is the ability to engage Gil sellers in PvP Combat, Nothing like a mass extinction to set things right!!! =D

Unfortunately there's more to it than that. Bots will change their IP address and keep coming back. Considering they'd probably have to pay for the game again, at least they would be giving SE some more money though. Bots are mindless pieces of .. without a heart and will come back like weeds. The least we can do is make these weeds pay some more rent while they're working on a permanent solution.

Idea: If you don't have gil on you, you can't shout. Each shout costs 100 gil. Problem solved!

Rmt keeps on coming because players keep on buying


Currently we all know that making gil in this game is impossible unless you do crafting and some people is just not into it. What do they do? Buy gil from this rmt people.

How did I know? I see people selling crafted items for around 300-400k, so i was thinking noone has that kind of money i will wait for it to go down. Then poof it has been sold the player who bought it doesnt have money and just became 50. I see him in mhordana

This gilseller has an ever-changing number in his message: at the very end, it starts with /// and has unique letters and digits following it. it is MUCH too fast to be hand-typed. What does that mean???

As you can see, this was some serious spam, absolutely overwhelming the game. What rl player would pay money to such a [fill in with appropriately vehement and obscene label]? To support this you have to have some serious narcissistic issues. ugh

Just make the ability to send shouts require being lvl18 like getting a retainer. Yeah that works, when you unlock retainers, you unlock shouting. Also give us a config option that can turn off /tells from anyone under lvl20.

Which of course screws-over those at 15 and 17 trying to do their first dungeons. While DF exists many are 'shouting' for groups.

Try THINKING before making stupid suggestions like this.

Would be nice if you guys would ban the teleporting mining bots and fix the exploits they are using to teleport between nodes, too. I realize that these things can take time to track down and devise a fix for, but an acknowledgement that you guys are looking into the problem would go a long way to assure players that you're doing everything you can to combat this.

Seeing all of the gil spam every day when I log in and seeing twice as many teleporting bots as people running normally between nodes is depressing and doesn't make me feel good about the state of this game.

I realize you guys have banned 800+ accounts for RMT activity, but it isn't nearly enough. That number should be over 2000 by now with the number of reports you're likely to have been getting.

They should just filter any shout with mention of certain keywords such as the name of gil selling websites.

Well and here i thought they were doing nothing to help this problem, RMT remain the most obnoxious people in online gaming, they like to make sure you can't get away from their spam, i even now am starting to see the spam shouts outside, at one point i decided to listen to music for 2 hours, i go over to my tells bar and my entire wall is filled with the same RMT..

It's a like a salesmen knocking at your door none-stop. You keep telling him no but he keeps shoving his product in your face, constantly. none-stop...all day, everyday. How does this NOT want to make you think about murder? except here we have a blist. to keep some temp peace. but that has it's limits. I don't want these viruses to ruin my gaming on this but there is only so much i can take.

I used to enjoy random shouting shout convos when my server was closed off, now that is pretty much impossible.

I think a right click/square button press in the chat log field on the name should produce an option called "(spam on/off)". This wont blacklist anyone, but temporarily disable the said character chat for that zone. This would then reset and go back to normal upon entering a different zone.

I think this just might be the fastest and easiest fix to help people with what we all desire.
