And I doubt you have anything to worry about. One can say much about this game, but they have added plenty of lore to every happening.

ya the other 3/4 of yoshida's post is stating "thank you for pointing out the map complaints we are working on it and starting with collision measures" so yes, it was mentioned in passing because he was thanking the japanese community bringing up the map layout problems, about how you have to detour around everything even over a 1 foot steep that blocks your way for 15 feet in either direction. Ya i get the "in passing".
On the statement of a new map,
1. yes they have all these numerous teams working on all these different kind of projects, A whole map redesign would take awhile, and if it comes I would forsee it in maybe an xpac or ps3 release, not in a monthly update.... that would be way to big of a file to have people download. Be realistic.
2. If they did they would probably use a similiar system that they did in the map design previously, of cookie cutter models that are touched up individually. Thats as the first team put out, to make the zones "bigger and quicker and easier to manage".
3. This is my personal request on new map changes... REDO THE WHOLE EORZEAN LAYOUT! >.>;;;; (this is going to go against a lot of my past 2 points and also nothing to do with them) I am really annoyed with the Eorzean map so far, biggest 2 main reasons, a) All 3 starting citys connected by ONE!!!!!!! straight road running from LL to Grid. with, b) Uldah, a starting city, the center of the current known world. The current Eorzean Jueno. c) the lack of pushing us to explore/adventure outside of 1 zone from l/r 1-50. I mean YAY!!!!! you mean I don't have to travel to new more exciting places to rank up in leve's or need except in the citys area.... Uldah example: you go farther out from 1-(20-24) then oh look I am right back north of uldah and BB at r30! oh look I am JUST south of drybone at r40! there is no need to do our job and adventure out. I miss the XI way of every 5-10 levels your in a new environment by necessity you go places, see the world. Now I just feel like its a confined world map not need to go anywhere like coerthas or mor dhona except for NM's, storyline, and "late game" sp partys killing raptor's in Coerthas. Before that there is really no reason to go there except for the exploration and leave, or finish a CS,and get teleport only camp aethers.
(lol sorry about the wall of text, wow didn't realize it was getting that long haha, gomen!!!)
I don't understand people who say things like, "This probably wont come til PS3 release", maybe partly because of the time dedicated, but also for some other irrational reason I just cannot understand. Does this change make a PS3 user want to play when it's promised to them after they buy the game? Remember what happened the first time? Yeah. It makes absolutely no sense.
If anything, they will try to fix all aspects and drastically change the game before finalizing the PS3 client version. Not only will this make more sense technically, but also for future marketing.
If you hear one more person use the, "it will probably be held for the PS3 release", let it be known they probably suspect the least likely outcome of anyone.
In my regards I mean it comes finalized on the ps3 released disc. Because it will be a big file and easier to update and rewrite from a disc then it is from a download. People don't like sitting for hours trying to download a patch after the already 3 hour downtime to apply it, because after the download they would also have to wait for the patch to install. So BIG major changes that have to come in one fell swoop and not in little updates overtime, would probably come in hardcopy form, such as ps3 release. That is why I stated that, it would just be less time consuming for the consumer and easier to distribute.
I hate to bring WoW into this thread, but if Blizzard can put out patches that are 1.5+ gigs, I don't see why SE can't do the same for FFXIV. Sure, it would be easier for the players to just be able to get them with the expansion, but can (and will) SE put out patches of that size? Absolutely.
This is no different than releasing it on PC than applying it to the PS3 version for it's release. Remember, they have been working hard to keep PC users too. It is incredibly ignorant to think that they are more concerned with their potential PS3 base than the PC users who are already hanging on by a thread.
Well WoW doesnt exactly update twice a month. they tend to wait until they have a mess load of crap to put out before they do it. If we were to wait 3 or 4 months for content patches they would be bigger. cept not many of us want to wait 3 or 4 months for one patch, better to have 1 a month.
Well the point is the ps3 is probably the major relaunch of the game, hence you as a developer want to have a lot for people to look at and say, this is worth my money, or this is worth me renewing. Of course there is another marketing strategy where if it looks like something is constantly improving, you may also want to invest in it. But based on the lack of content added in the last 7 months, when some of this content is obviously small, and probably already developed/easy to develop it seems they are saving a lot of the game for something.
keep in mind,
level cap is 50, even though we have had higher level mobs in the game from launch
no behests/leve quests for 43+ even though making a behest at this point would have to be fairly simple, pick some monsters throw them in the area, the end.
almost everything mentioned in development from the start of the game has not been added, when the game premiered they showed new hairstyles actually modeled. they havent come into the game at all. There is armor on npcs, that we cant wear, that follow pre existing patterns (raptor skin harness sets)
dats show skills with descriptions that we dont have yet.
fact is they must be holding back content, because some of it is basically already in game.
All good points but another thing I failed to mention is I think they will do the same as they did for FFXI and when the ps3 release does come an xpac will be released along side it. Like they did for NA FFXI release. Also yes download speeds are great now for downloading these functions. I am just afraid to do each zone over again will be more than 1.5 gigs, because when it comes to a remap of current zones they also have to redo so many other things with it, such as mob distribution, and other things that would need to be redone on things that people forget that remapping a map would impact.
On the downloading thing though, yes its gotten quicker over the past few months for FFXIV. Just remember Blizzard uses hard download from there servers, XIV uses torrent style so if not a lot of people online getting the patch its slower because its not dedicated purely from thier servers.
Well it's not like I'm saying they'll be putting out huge patches like that twice a month. Did you read Xmbei's post that I'm responding to? All I'm saying is that releasing a patch with these map changes could result in a patch of that size, and if other companies are able to distribute patches of that size, then we could see one of that size as well without it having to be a part of an expansion pack.
Now we just have to hope that they get their patching client up to snuff by then... :p
They cant tell us EVERYTHING they put in a patch. that would just kill the adventure
That is assuming their priority is to the future PS3 users. You should be going on what you know and not what you suspect their direction is. That being, that they need to build the PC base and the already existing players to feel this is a game worth playing, and not a game we hope we'll never want to do without and arn't sure yet.
Making PS3 assumptions is premature at this stage and probably not worth suspecting over at this point for the fact that this message was sent to the PC users... not the future PS3 users.
I don't want Gridania to go away :(
Man, I wonder if anything is gonna happen to our Aetherites. What could the Garlean Empire be doing to suck the power out of the crystals. I bet the beast tribes are gonna be angry. If we loose the ability to Teleport everywhere, would the Grand Companies be able to help us out?Quote:
...turning up utterly divested of aspect. ...is an affront to the very laws of nature. ...camp-bound transient...
...Stay Tuned for the next episode of FFXIV!!
I don't know whats going on, but i think i like where its heading.
well i wont say they are holding back for ps3 perse, but i definately think they are holding back for a big release later, the cap wouldnt still be 50 if they werent, we'd have more gears and skills.
Basically the stuff they want to implement now is system stuff mostly, testing what they can do, make things smoother. The only new content we have gotten since the new team/direction so far is the last NM patch, and the quests in towns. all the rest were tweaks, bugfixes, and things to make gameplay/menus smoother. they said they have a lot of different teams, and there is still the content that actually already on our clients that they arent using. So while it might come before the ps3, they are definately holding back.
This is what they did in the japanese version of FF11(the one we never got to play) They had a huge publicity stunt that jueno was ravaged by tyrany (Kamlanaut) then they released zilart and it made every hardcore FF fan come play and saved the game.
I AM SO EXCITED OMG
^____________________________^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also very excited :)
Excuse me, I know I can be sometimes too direct in my thoughts, but this opinion you have is due to not understanding the development process. What you view as holding back actually really is them taking longer to develop major changes to implement. If it has anything to do with holding something back, it's due to it not being finished yet and taking more time to develop.
Holding anything back just pisses off the base of players they already have and contradicts the goals they promised to the player base in January. Plus, they would not start this story regarding the changes happening to Gridania for a non-existing player base. This was directed to the player base they currently have.
I like Grid, I'll be sad if it is destroyed.
Wouldn't it be crazy if we all got transported back to the 6th Umbral Era, maybe a bit extreme though ^^
Currently, the Black Shroud is built like Yuhtunga + Zi'Tah
I'd like to see it become something along the lines of Ronfaure + Zi'Tah
Thanalan is more like Sarutabaruta + Gustaberg (maybe with a bit of Attowa)
La Noscea reminds me a lot of Lufaise Meadows (It would be nice if there were some rivers/waterfalls in it)
On top of changing topography, it would be nice if the textures would also very in different parts of the map as well. Perhaps a slightly more tropical look to the southern part of the Black Shroud, and more Firs and Evergreens in the north...
Well, if the Aetherites are not working in various places, we will need alternate transportation...Chocobos! & Airships!Quote:

I suspect (or rather hope) that Girdania will be the "Front Line" of the Garlean War/Invasion and the Shroud will be battle-scarred thus closing some routes but opening others...Enemy Camps and Friendly Camps with new Behests/Dungeons.
The Grid Quests have hinted that Crafting will be Grid's main contribution to the war effort so perhaps mostly crafters join that Company to supply the troops and the rest of us are the troops...protecting Grid from the Garlean advance and organizing assaults into enemy territory.
Perhaps if we are not dilligent in our efforts, Gridania will be lost and unaccesible untill we can retake it...otherwise the Garlean's will swoop into Limsa and Uldah and all of Eorzea will be lost and the SE will shut down the servers untill PS3 release when we hopefully have enough players to win these battles.
(These are just my goofy thoughts, not intended to be realistic. I am looking forward to whatever changes are coming. I have been pleased so far (overall), am playing more and becoming more interested in Eorzea and its fate.)
Keep up the good work Yoshi & Crew!
Well....(side-quest spoilers, highlight to see)
A lot of the newer side-quests have all been talking of sightings or direct attacks on people or other ships from Garlean forces. Even Limsa has heard a bit of buzz about being attacked from the sky. Hell they shot down an Airship right outside of Ul'dah! The Garlond Ironworks will play a large part in the story too I think. They'll likely build something crazy that we can use against the Garlean Empire.
Just because Gridania is physically the closest doesn't mean it's the only one who is going to be attacked at first.
Agreed. SPOILERS:
Eorzea is being spyed on every city. We have airship scouts running around. Garlean soldiers hiding in caves near Limsa!
All we know is that something big is coming our way.
Spoiler
also Cid I think will finally appear soon, If you have done the airship crash sidequest. Those Ironworks people sound like they might be talking about Cid. Also might be a good and bad Cid in this game like in 12, since empire and eorzea have thier own airships and different tech.
Another spoiler:
Head of the Ironworkers and best engineer of all? That's Cid for sure! XD Actually, another sidequest tells you the Ironworkers are a group of engineers that disagreed with the empires ways, and during the Ala Mhigo attack, ran away and took refuge in Eorzea.
Spoilers
It's also been stated that some or all of the Garlond Ironwork's members are ex-Garlean or Ala Mhigan. I forget which quest but I remember an NPC asking me if I was actually surprised to hear of that.
Sorry to throw this excitement off track a bit, but the lodestone talks about:
"...the frightful rumors being propagated by a camp-bound transient could well prompt folk to run for the hills. This shady figure is said to manifest with nary a warning, preach feverishly of impending doom, and then vanish like a phantom only to reappear elsewhere."
Anyone checking for a phantom NPC popping up at the camps in The Black Shroud?? It would have been easily missed if it was included in the patch since most ppl do everything they can to stay out of that area lol. Might be more clues if there is such an NPC...
Maybe it appears at night..
Let them decide whether its okay or not. If it isn't, they will take care of the post.
At least point us into right direction or something. Telling us there is something and then not saying what it is, is a douche move.
