I love people who don't understand probability, sure the 11% is the chance each one drops. However, I could put 9 marbles in a bag and end up picking the same one 50 times, it just means I need more tries to normalize it out to the 11% chance. Soooo theres my simple explanation of probability have fun kids.
lol@ 50 being a legitimate sample size.
you just got unlucky.
Hey kids! n=20 is the beginning of statistical relevance, and actually above n=5000 or so you need to start performing other tests on your data sets in order to ensure heteroschoasticity and identify other data purity problems. 50 is probably on the low side given the number of possible results in a sample, but it's certainly enough to make some statistically informed observations. An easy one is that grimoires drop more than any other weapon. This actually makes *some* sense since multiple classes use them, while only dragoons use harpoons; it would only make logical sense to drop more of a commonly shared weapon.
To the above posted that made a completely inane marble comment: you sure could put 9 marbles in a bag, randomly select one, and select the same one 50 consecutive times. The probability of this occurring is calculable and is .00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000019% (ok I rounded it off, R will take it out quite a bit further but that illustrates my point I hope). It does not mean you "just need to sample some more to normalize it." It means you got an incredibly rare occurrence that is nearly mathematically impossible. If you've ever done the classic "pennies" problem when this type of probability event is first introduced in math you'll know that even flipping heads on coins 10 times in an unbroken row becomes fairly rare (.097% of the time, or a little worse than 1 in 1000 times)
20 runs and i finally got a harpoon. always saw grimoire and book. got already those and a bow. at first I feel like, "do I need to give up hunting a harpoon and just reroll to other class?" the next run. I finally got what I want.
Try to get angry at your lady luck, it somewhat effective.
Computers are horrible at generating random numbers. The best they can do is produce a string of numbers that only look random to the naked eye. There are, of course systems that purport to produce truly random numbers, but they rely on things like radio-active decay or atmospheric noise; and who here really believe SE has a geiger counter hooked up somewhere to randomize loot drops? The truth is they are likely using the cheapest (computationally) method baked into most programming libraries: the linear congruential generator. This algorithm requires a seed, and it is in this implementation they could have screwed up. The questions should be how often do they instantiate the generator? Once a day? Every instance? And where do they get the seed? Date-Time? Character data? If the generator is started every time a party picks a fight with ifrit, and the seed is poorly chosen, then yes, the loot drops could be perfectly predictable and heavily skewed towards certain items.
Took my BLM friend for his first Ifrit run = BLM weapon on first try
I think I had my SCH book within 5 tries as well
on the other side, Garuda never dropped my book...
I did Ifirit 6 times, bow dropped on the last time and I lost to another bard. Wouldn't be so bad, if getting a group didn't take 40+ mins. I hope I don't have to wait too long, I will not bother if I don't get it after say a dozen times.
I saw whm, pld, 2 monk (I won one) sch and bard.
I've been doing ifrit runs for a few days now.
I have all of the weapons now except a Bow..
Except a bow..
RNG knows your soul..
I farmed him for 3 days (at most 6 hours a day) as a PLD. I just go with it through DF and all of my parties consisted of JP players (of course, I'm in a JP server). Anyways, the sword dropped the first time during my first day, but lost to another PLD for it. I only got my sword last night where the other PLD in the party no longer rolled Need for it (he's already done with Relic).
The most drop I saw was for WAR and MNK, some for BLM and once for SCH.
I'll be trying for Ifrit HM again sometime, this time for the horn, which only dropped once during my farming spree.
Back in my day Ifrit dropped weapons into individual party member's inventory if you wanted it or not. Also people sometimes went 30-40-70-100 fights with no luck with drops and that's how we liked it! Not really, but yeah it's easy mode enough with 1 guaranteed drop every run stop complaining and wanting it to be even easier.
I seen 4 axes drop today with myself and another PLD tanking. The loot gods are cruel.
Random is random. It took my Black Mage 30 tries before actually seeing her rod but as an Archer it only took about 6 wins to get the bow.
For me, the White Mage cane drops almost 50% of the time so if you want that, and are on Malboro, then queue up with me a few times are you'll be golden!
I wouldn't complain so much if I didn't have to wait 40 mins and then when I finally join its a very inexperienced party or there's some perfectionist that quits after someone makes one small mistake towards the end of the fight after a smooth going battle. Heck I've even had someone quit as soon as the instance started after an hour all because there wasn't a BLM. That's what irritates me the most after all of this farming.
Well now I know why I'm not getting any SMN Grimoires, You lot are getting them all!
I got my bow after 7 times. I beat the other bard by 1 point(I lost to a bard my first time I saw it). Best part is I was getting a car insurance quote for the whole fight. Saving $500 and a bow is awesome.
why are you people running ifrit so many times??? Just get the GC weapon and work on your relic....
For me, got mine after 7 tries. Here's the drops I saw for the runs:
~ Ifrit HM's Drops ~ (Main Job: WHM)
#1 DRG
#2 BRD
#3 SCH
#4 BLM (Obtained!)
#5 BRD
#6 BRD
#7 WHM (Obtained!)
I got Whm and Blm weapons on my first run. Took 34 kills for brd. Only used the bow for 1 day before I got garuda bow.
I got bow on 3rd try. Drops were:
PLD
PLD
BRD
I seen the bow 3 times in 10 runs.
4 runs on Ifrit to see the SCH book drop.
22 runs on garuda
1 run on titan.
That's how I got my 3 sch books....
I've run Ifrit so many times as my WHM I could do it blindfolded now. I haven't even seen the weapon drop once. I don't mind randomness but after a certain point in time, the repetition becomes mind numbing and you don't even feel like playing anymore.
I have ran it about 40 times on whm, the cane dropped on the last time and I had the luck to roll higher than the other whm, so I would say my luck was average.
In the process, I have won axe, harpoon and codex by greeding:)
I haven't seen any "out of the ordinary rules" in random drops. Also, 40 runs is too small a sample.
F&*^ you Ifrit for dropping 4! I'm not the only one OCD about my Tomes, either. Several in my FC are like that.
Ifrit & Garuda weapons look better than GC, imo. But then again, I'm from v1 where GC weapons were lol & Primal Weapons were the sh*t.
PS: IMO Large Titan weapons are fugly
