Oh wow, that video is nuts. I would rage hard as hell.
Oh wow, that video is nuts. I would rage hard as hell.
I'll try again right now with your strategy (Thank you!) but I got so annoyed with this, I made a video just to add an example to this thread with.
....It's completely ridiculous.
Where are the NA servers located? When I change to server time it's EU time.

I think there should be a damage reduction, you recieve 100% of the damage in the middle of the circle or near the boss's cone attack and 50% should be cut if you get hitfurther away from the middle area and near the boss.
ugh i hope you guys understand.
im tired.
After disabling Nagle over a week ago, I haven't had any problems dodging any kind of AoE in the game:
http://www.twitch.tv/exertim/c/2903174
I would definitely give it a shot if you're having problems with AoEs hitting you even though you're out of them for 1+ seconds like I was.
Nope, Windows 7
Nagle shouldn't affect windows 7, but it helped? I'll have to check this out
I've always had it turned off after noticing that it dropped my MS by close to a 100 back in WoW. I forgot to re-disable after building my new desktop and just happened to remember about it and gave it a shot. Can't complain about the results that I've gotten since disabling it~
Ive always thought that you had too short time to move out from most aoes. I figured it was a mix of latency since the servers are in NA and im from EU (yes EU servers are in NA) plus that Im a bit older. I'm all for challenges if they are fair. Some of these aoes does not feel fair.
go back to world of casual-craft.
They need to add a dislike button for people's comments. Telling people to leave a game because part of it, a very important part, is broken, only shows how shortsighted or just plain stupid you are.
I, like many others, hope this can be solved because I enjoy the game but raiding under these conditions would be impossible.
You're always going to have the idiots that defend any complaint on the forums, because God forbid anyone point out anything wrong with their precious game. Hey, guess what, LenneSari? We clearly like the game more than you because we're trying to make it a better game, where you're like the husband who refuses to believe his wife is sick until she's being lowered into a grave.
No I agree with LenneSari ,go back to your other scrub mmo's.
That's exactly what everybody did with FF14 1.0.
If every one that complains leaves the game will be perfect.
This game is for FF fanboys and butt hurt ex wow players that make it their duty to flame WOW on every forum they can.
But truth be told I'm pretty sure most people will indeed go somewhere else if this is not getting fixed.
Positive side the server load will be reduced.
I'm not looking forward to Titan. I did that dragon boss in Brayflox and I had this exact same problem.
Indeed. I'll be one of them. This doesn't even affect me personally that badly except that there's always someone in my group, ANY group that has just enough latency to where this becomes an issue. It's infuriating and ridiculous. Who sets their server to update location every .3 seconds?! I've played ancient ass games that didn't do that!
Hell if it's to ease the server load, sure, fine! But make it more accurate at the very least inside dungeons!
Looks like SE is going to nerf Titan at this rate. I wonder what % of the population that can't beat Titan is.
Someone mentioned that perhaps your ISP is affecting your ability to beat Titan. Your PC build could be a factor as well, my bro spent like thousands on his graphics card, and oh boy it was a world of difference in performance. Some brand called titan something, not sure, my bro handles anything tech related.
We actually upgraded our dsl service to play these sorts of games better.
I get the feeling that people don't want to do things like this to play a game, makes sense I suppose.
And before you ask, yes I beat Titan, as a Black Mage, of course it was a perfect run where no one died. We wiped like 5 times but didn't give up.
The problem isn't ISPs or builds or anything like that. Those can make problems WORSE, absolutely, but the baseline issue is that the server updates your location every .3 seconds. That translates to an absolute minimum ping of 300ms just due to how the server works. Take into account that for someone like me on the West Coast (And that every MMO I have ever fucking played has had proper servers for each region and didn't group all of NA + EU into fucking EASTERN CANADA.) with 90-100 ping to Montreal and that means I, on an excellent connection and a very powerful computer, have a baseline ping of 390ms-400ms, which is completely unacceptable.
(cont)
(continued, 1,000 character limit on a FORUM is also some of the worst design I've ever seen, what the hell, SE?)
You can get around it by forcing a server update by using an ability or something, but that's just good players compensating for absolutely horrifically bad design and logistics on SE's part.
And even then, even with all that, I personally do just fine, but the bigger issue is in large (8+) groups where you know someone, somewhere is going to have a bad connection. Or perhaps today their ISP is acting up a little so instead of the occasional lag spike the game becomes totally unplayable. It's just... so bad.
And to make it even better, Canadian ISPs are notorious for being almost universally awful, so someone having problems is pretty much guaranteed.
I agree with OP. For me Titan for example is a latency check, not a dps check - one I generally fail. Or, if you are moving constantly, it's more like a roulette, because u are sure to get out of your plumes, but you might step into other ppl's AOE death traps.
The most annoying part is that for you everything appears to be ok (judging for what you see on the screen) only to discover 1s later that you were not in fact miles out of the AOE, according to the server at least.
I don't mind long fights, I don't mind hard fights - these are things I can tackle with patience and perseverance. Latency issues however, there's nothing I can do about them. :|
Please fix or adjust fights accordingly.
Exactly. I tried to be 'constantly moving' when I know an AoE is coming, but then I might be running into someone else who is doing the same thing (moving so that they can get a guaranteed avoidance from AoE). Titan during and after heart phase is a VERY small arena. If you have to be moving to preemptively avoid something, you are GOING to run into someone else, and possibly MPK your teammates if they run into your circles. It's frustrating that, to survive, we have to use all of these counter measures. I love this game, but I do miss the mechanics in other MMOs where simply getting out of the circle in time was enough.
I'm about to give up, game has become unplayable since the maintenance.
Next to that I just find myself not enjoying a game with a build in 450ms, or with the server stability.
I was under the assumption both would be addressed but I some how doubt they will fix their server checks.
Not sure why they do it like this, no other MMO seems to do it.
Is it cheaper or are they just incompetent, who knows but I'm pretty sure the majority of the people will not be discussing this in 2-3 months.
I think it has something to do with limiting clientside hacking (can't hack much if almost everything is handled serverside). Which is what you hire GMs and have a working report form for.
This. I'm pretty convinced this is the one and only reason they do everything this way -- to prevent hacking. If you let movement be more of a client side thing, it wouldn't be long before people figured out 'jump' hacks and merely clicked on a spot out of an AoE to avoid it. You'd likely see their body 'teleport' (or run really fast) to that spot. Of course, this IS cheating, and something that should be reported... but there's nothing you can do to stop entire linkshells/FCs from doing this and never getting caught unless someone happens to report it. It's sad because I doubt a majority of players would cheat... but some will, so that means we all must suffer? I wonder how other MMOs ensure that client-side 'hacking' is not possible even with better location checks (WoW for example).
Actually alot of games use this sort of "clienetside" code, what most players dont know is that what their sending is still sanity checked by the server using timestamps,it gives the effect of clinetside but still has the server being the authority. Im not sure about it being used in MMOs besides planetside 2 and in turn EQ next.
you can read valves details on it here: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/...yer_Networking
Scroll down to lag compensation.
But yea, this is why so many FPS players rage, all like" i was around a corner" not on his screen you weren't!" or like, "but i hit him!..." OH no you didn't!...your client is out of sync!
not exactly sure how it would work in a pve environment, im sure it would be possible though. i guess it would be the same, if your client is sending data of where it perceives PVE mobs.
i think part of the problem now is how often the server process data, 3 times per second is alittle too slow(even though my client sends 6 packets per second...), also i think it often processes packets later than it should.
This issue is everywhere in many forms and it is a problem with data processing, this is a gamebreaking problem that will kill endgame before it even starts, the game needs to be responsive and if that means giving the client more control then use some of the sub money to hire a couple GMs to watch for those who would exploit and be quick with the banhammer. Heres another thread to check out: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...04#post1277004
Same problem. Getting terribly frustrated getting hit by things on HM Titan that I shouldn't be.
As for preventing people from hacking, having serverside checks after the fact is fine (so if you really weren't physically able to do something, it'd basically retroactively put you back where you were and deal damage to you accordingly, kinda like GGPO resets, but on an individual level.) but games like WoW also had GMs watching top-tier fights live (and invisibly) to check for shenanigans, as one possible example of how things are done.
There is an issue with server latency
How did you lot even get past Stone vigil? This bad delay has made it very difficult to do any dungeon with my friends, they have the reactions speed of a drunk 90 year old and on nearly every boss i find myself the last one alive nearly every time. I'm the tank and i am pretty good at dodging stuff, i have noticed if you move out of an area before the cast finishes and save an ability to use after you have moved out of the area it helps alot. The worst thing though, i find is noone in this game ever uses their stuns to interrupt casts, I am playing a warrior and i wish i played a paladin so i can stun everything.
I made a thread again demanding an answer to all these issues with all the threads of the same type compiled in it:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ific-answer%29
If it gets deleted for not having a format or whatever I'll remake it in the general forum.
I've got it too and it's extremely frustrating.
Blame Canada.
well qq about things you dont know anthing about it.
they game is developed by the slow serverping. They cant "fixx" it asap. And with more serverpings they have to improve/exchange ALL servers.
dont get me wrong, i hate the current situaton too, but SE is aware about the problem but it needs lot of time to change it (...well...if they wanna to change it... im not sure about that)
just a tip: if you know the big aoe of e.g. titan is incoming (blabla of the land). start a spell. in this case you recieve a new serverping and see the aoe earlier.
Don't blame Canada. Blame our telecom companies.

“The problem in Canada is… they have almost third-world access to the internet.” - Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer
But in all seriousness, there are actually third-world countries that have better internet than us. We're not almost, we're worse.
I couldn't agree more. This has been a very frustrating issue for me. I clear out of the AoE area the split second it appears, but I still take almost every hit. Being a white mage, I'm pretty squishy, so if I get a couple of those in a row, I'm dead.
Most groups I've been in have been pretty understanding, as many of them report the exact same issue. Even the tanks see it; they just don't die as easily. But then I end up in a group with the person that has to start screaming and cussing because apparently I'm "too stupid" to leave the AoE. Attempting to explain the situation to such people is typically futile.
I only got past Titan through sheer number of tries and dumb luck, and now I'm stuck on the last fight of Stone Vigil for the same reason. I appreciate the above suggestion of casting to refresh my location, which I'll give a try later tonight. But a real solution to the problem would be appreciated.
