Heya!
This (and XI) is one of the few games that allows people all over the world to stick and have fun together, building relationship all over the world, and you want to destroy it because of the latency?
I don't know you guys, but I don't experience any lag issue, neither I did for the little time I played XI. It's only a thing that needs a little more tweak.
If the player's issue is the misunderstanding of languages, they can use the Auto-translation feature to ease the understanding.
Please, don't drop cool things!
See ya!
I like how it is now. But there are some risks too it. If people from Germany or Japan for example all go to the same server because there friends play there too and they speak their own language all the time, it is really annoying to see them talk in their own language and thereby dividing the gamer population in groups.
As long as some people actually try to speak the most spoken language in the game and connect to other people from other countries I dont mind.
But I've been in games where people only spoke German although it was an international game. I can understand German quite well but seeing this people isolate themselves from the rest of the community is really annoying.
Luckily I have seen only 99,99% of the time English in some occasions some Japanese, but maybe that's because Karnak is still quite small.
I use to have to live in Japan a few months a year for work. I played FFXI in US and Japan and I never noticed the latency difference to be that much if any at all. Mobs still show on pop just a fast as when I was in Japan my macro lag was same in both area etc... So from experience I would have to say Japan having better latency (if they do at all) is not that big a deal. People seems to just assume because the server are there that was the case, but after playing there I didn't notice a difference.
I see no issue whatsever with multi-region servers. It works for Xbox live and PSN. Nobody complains about latency issues from those.
Kimiko x
Funny people scream latency this and all. I live in Guatemala/Where the hell that is most will wonder/ and i dont get lag
also my main language is not English, I learned English playing FFXI also Japanese so hurray for international servers if you don't understand people learn to understand.
On an additional personal experience.
I had the opportunity to go UK and my friends from the game there and I decided to get together I went and cooked some regional dishes and they took me to some tourist area I wouldn't have know if it wasn't because I went and met them online. So for exchanging different cultures you just have to make them happen.
Most japanese know very good ENG i join many only jp party by just saying hello in japanese and saying i {i understand a little} they go ok and use auto to talk to me and i follow them. Only some japanese wont let you join at all but beside that it's not because they hate NA it's they just don't understand you. If you use google and try to talk to them they would let you in for sure :)
It's due to serverside interface which it makes no difference where the servers are as it's all up to the game in general to be properly optimized especially if I need:
Click action > wait for server to 'OK' > send action > get response.
It's all because of the middle steps that's causing it to be laggy, since most MMOs you send action > get response on if it lands/deals damage/cures etc etc, no middle augment.
Server placement does indeed have an impact on lag, regardless of size, and this -can- pose issues though they are not likely due to peak time differences. I think the best solution, and one I've promoted before, is to leave the current servers international but to try adding or moving a server to test regional server waters. I would like to see a NA server, and this preference isn't due to me wanting to segregate myself from the rest of the world population, but moreso to ensure the groups of people I play with.
Culturally it is much easier, and more benficial for myself to play with people in North America. I'm not overtly educated in other languages (I can speak basic french/spanish) so international servers can be a problem for me depending. I have sporadic work schedules, and don't always have the chance to play in the same timeframe. And personally, if I had the option to play either on a high pop international with lots of people not speaking my first language, or a low pop regional where everyone speaks my language, I would take the low pop as I would easily be able to get the most out of my playtime without having a language barrier.
And for those that refer to the auto-translate, although it does serve basic functions, you can't have -real- interaction with it. Your options are basically like automated responses and don't serve much purpose of actually developing friendships.
^^ The pace of the game is such that any latency is irrelevant. I live in Japan, but I've also played from the US. There is no difference between the delay of actions.
Some people experience a great deal of input lag due to the demanding nature of the game, if they have a computer too weak to run the current setting response times will lag like hell and back. Try turning Ambient occlusion on and you will see what I mean.
But thats not the servers fault, but that wont stop people from complaining anyways. I personally like being able to play with people no matter what time I log in.
Agreed. The "lag" that people are experiencing has nothing to do with latency and everything to do with computer specs and/or details of their ISP/internet connection.
Network latency is a physical thing, unless we already have some flavor of FTL communications, crossing the ocean will add 80-100 milliseconds to communications. So we will have an average ping of around 200ms which isn't bad at all for the current battle system.
i like the multi-language servers as well. I would love to have those in other games as well. People tend to be more openminded on these server, or if they are not, they leave or get more open minded. Meeting people from other countries is nice, i like it very much. I also have an ls i usually hang out with most of them 9 hrs time difference. Most games dont even offer to change from EU to NA servers so i wouldnt be able to play with them like i used to in ffxi.
and the latency i think really isnt the problem, the game coding, like many threads already stated isnt optimized for mmo/online gaming at all. Until that isnt fixed well... nothing will change that i guess.
From Canada I average 160~ms Ping to Japanese servers It's obvious this massive ping is causing Unwaranted latency! Hell it's only 40ms slower than my connection to America.
So yeah...It's not the servers fault you have a crappy connection, and or crappy computer with the setting cranked too high.
Luckily for us, disagreeing with your views (and actually knowing how this kind of things work) doesn't equate to being "paid" by square enix.
There are plenty games that segregate players to play only with their neighborhood (and don't have any perceivably faster response). You're always free to go play one of those. The vast majority, quite obviously, disagrees with you. I seriously doubt they're all paid by SE.
Because you saw their network code right? It's more probable that you need to "fix" your stamina management. Personally, I have no perceivable lag. All my skills fire as instantly as the eye can perceive. Probably because I can manage my stamina.
Oh wait. You're not playing, so you can't fix it.
Too bad.
If this game ever had regional servers, you will get less, and later content. the fact that they are linked means you have to get the same content at the same time. Its a no brainer for me, linked for life.
I can honestly say I'd stop playing if we had regional servers. I like playing with people from around the world and in fact I expect it in this day and age. Eve has spoiled me.
They do have regional servers, well 2 China and the rest of the world ^^
I'm in Japan, but today I was able to help a new player from Poland, and had a nice long chat with a friend from Greece.
The other day I was given a Decorated Horn Staff crafted by a friend who lives in Colombia, who was introduced by a friend in the United States.
We may all be on very different parts of this earth, but we can be together as friends on Eorzea.
That is what I like most about this game. ^^
I like not logging into a ghost town depending on what time I log in.
Anyways... this is a dead topic. Just drop it already.
