Announcing Server Enhancements and the Temporary Suspension of Digital Download Sales
We would like to thank you for your continued support of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Since the start of early access on Saturday, August 24th, an enormous amount of users have been logging in to the game. As such, the number of users logging in has been increasing at a rate that is much higher than what we had originally anticipated. To ensure that we maintain a quality level of service for everyone, we have been setting restrictions on both the creation of characters as well as adjusting the number of users that are able to log in. We are well aware that these restrictions are a source of frustration for our users who are waiting to play.
To address this matter, we are currently working on introducing new Worlds and enhancing the performance of the login and match making processes on both the Japanese and North American & European data centers. This operation is expected to be completed at the beginning of next week.
Until this operation is complete, we would like to prioritize the quality of service for those who have already purchased the game. Therefore, we are temporarily suspending the sale of the digital download versions of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. Once the operation has been completed, the sale of the digital download version will resume.
While the operation is in progress, we will continue to apply restrictions on both the creation of characters and the ability to log into the game. Throughout this time, we will be offering constant updates on the progress of the operation.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes our users and humbly request your understanding.
Hopefully this means my friends can get into my server. I also still have half a Free Company unable to get into Leviathan.

The communication and delays in translation from JP -->> NA/EU customers is really bad right now. Can we get a commitment from you community manager and PR staff to improve their communication and clarity? This forum still does not have a sticky indicated that NA/EU will be receiving upgrades. In fact it says they are limiting access. There is no sticky about the current state of charcter creation. There is no sticky about halting online sales.
You really really really need to work on keeping us up-to-date. Your NA twitter feed is also woefully behind. You really need to hire more community staff or hold them accountable for updating the community. With a lack of information we are left to speculate (often times negatively) about what's going on.
Edit: I shouldn't have to rely on third party sites like reddit for up-to-date information on your game.

This can be due to the overhead of managing multiple characters and multiple interactions. If you have two people in one zone, and you're updating their positions every 1 second, you have to send 2 updates every second per person (updating each person with their official location and everyone else's location), so 4 updates total. If you have 4 people (twice the number of people) you have to send 16 updates per second. If you have 8 people, you're sending 64 updates per second (each 8 person getting 8 updates). This is a really simplified example, but it shows how 2+2 can be a lot more than 4.
I love how people get upset when an international product that has recorded to have over 150k concurrent users goes live and .. "gasp" there are some issues. This team is doing an amazing job.

So you mean that when they had to end sales of the digital version "From their own website" that no one in their company is responsible guessing incorrectly. I mean my EA amounted to just roughly one day and I now I cant login when I took xtra days off work. Lose their job maybe not but I expect more from SquareEnix. You should too this is the second time around.
While I am very happy for the clarification there are some troublesome things here. If the server capacity is upped to allow 100-500 more players at any give time, whats to keep those people from staying logged in as well? Also yes there will be servers added; however no one wants to re-roll (certainly not me) after getting 1-2 jobs on a character. Will server transfers be allowed once the new servers have come into play? If not immediately when will they be implemented? Is there a way for a que to be implemented as well in case servers are still bursting so we don't have to keep trying to log in therefore bogging down the servers even more?
this whole thing is being handled like a bunch of high school students setting up their first infrastructure assignment in tech class.....
i mean come on SE, you are a multimillion dollar company that is huge in japan. you cant get servers over-nighted to you and get a dozen or more engineers to set them up and get them running? people are officially PAYING for service now. we have bought the game. we have given you money. you are NOT PROVIDING WHAT WE PAID FOR.
there is absolutely no excuse for how your paying customers are being treated, and the apologists can go off themselves. asking us to have patience for a few hours while a maintenance period goes on is acceptable. asking players to have patience for potentially 2 weeks (dont forget the ambiguous "next week some time" timetable) is not acceptable.
you are killing your own game SE. your inability to effectively react and implement resolutions quickly WILL have a lasting impact on the number of players in your game.
people will not stand for paying for this game, and then not being able to play for more than a week while you make excuses and apologies. apologies, while nice, mean nothing in business. it is NOT stuck up, conceited, or entitled to think that as a customer i should receive the service i have paid for. i work for my money, i provide a service or function BEFORE i get my money. we give our money to SE BEFORE we receive their service, and they arent even providing it right now. provide the service that your customers are paying for, and provide it now. you have our money now, we should expect to get our service now. if you cant do that, then we should either get FREE time to compensate us, or refunded for the time that we did not receive service.
and please...god... do NOT say "this is the free month". the first month of service is not free... they are not GIVING you a free month. you paid for that month in the cost of the box. there is nothing free about it.
I just got randomly booted, dunno why, and now I'm one of the lucky 'error 1017' peeps and can't log back in.
Initially aggrivated because I couldn't roll on the same servers as my friends, and now while I wait for my server to 'open up' again I mess around with character creator and find out you can't create a new character on ANY NA servers. They are all blacked out, even after refreshing. x_x
I hope this fix comes sooner rather than later. People are already hesitant going into this 'second chance', and nothing tastes fouler on a gamer's tongue than a bad launch.
The only two users of this forum are white knights buying into the whole apology crap and white knighting for SE, saying stuff like WELL TECHNICALLY YOU AREN'T PAYING -YET- SO YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO COMPLAIN. The other user is the guy who is complaining non-stop that he can't get in like it's going to make them go faster. If you can get in great. If you can't well you're SOL move on and discuss the game while constantly trying to log in.
Please also add more Legacy servers so returning players can play.
Wow.... well this kind of sucks. One of my bosses bought this game and he loves it, but him being forced to play on a JP server is frusterating to him. I stopped one of my co-workers form buying this game because of these issue. I guess there is nothing I can do but tell them that this MIGHT be resolved next week and wait. I will admit, I am a HUGE Square fanboy and I have been patient up to this point, but im getting kind of ticket off now. O well, glad my sister bought me a copy of Saints Row 4 so that I have something to do. :/
I created a character phase 3 played till lvl 30 got wiped started over in phase 4 and played through some of early access but haven't been able to play at all since the game became officially "available". I'm glad they are adding more servers for new players but I don't understand how that helps me. My server is full probably beyond full since they haven't been able to lift login restrictions and I don't want to restart or move servers I already have friends where I'm at. How long is it gonna be till I can play with the character I've had since the beta?
These kind of answers won't do any good unless we as a consumer got compensation later on. We paid game for not being able to play for days is a blow.
I can make this simple...... some quests when you read what u have 2 do don't even have proper sentence structure.....i'm talking ebonics for sure...><
Please stop defending SE the game is 100% better(also (50% easier) and still looks great but if you can't sign on it's pointless.Now for you diehard supporters of SE they said a maintenance is scheduled for Sept 4th that means it took them 8 days to figure out how to fix this...><....and that is why Japanese gaming companies like SE are losing millions because Ubisoft,Epic games,EA,Sony and M$ would have had this fixed in 24hrs.....truth hurts but it's still the Truth!
They said they are adding an extra 7 days for free play.That's to anyone asking for compensation that will take effect after maintenance.
