It is the only commercial I could ever say that definitely made me feel like a bigger loser then I already am and I don't know how something like that is possible because my nerdyness is capped :-)
well at least its still leagues better than that super pretentious GW2 live action one...
and cheesyness aside the production value on the equipment replicas is actually pretty amazing, the BLM AF looks awesome (they showcased it at gamescom as well)
I think it's fine for the most part. /shrug
I just think it might have been better had it been a foreign or fake language. Script was a little cheesy to be said in English that's why lol. Otherwise, fine.
Better version if not posted

You guys didn't like the commercial? Sure, I'll admit it wasn't as good as the Japanese live action commercial for FFXIV 1.0, but come on. "Escape reality. Live the fantasy." I think that slogan right there markets to the mmo community perfectly.
I was almost expecting it to turn out to be a commercial for a children's card game.
But boy, that sure was something...
Yeah it is pretty bad. Maybe they were going for a so bad it goes viral commercial. ;)
I'm ok with this
Choco commercial

It was fine for me, and it kinda made sense. I'm really not sure why people think it was so terrible. It's not a bad idea to show that there's someone behind the characters you see. It seems like they're trying to make people realize that if you play this game you're going to be part of something bigger than just yourself.
No only that but, if you think about the first thing you see in the game is a giant war, with some mysterious old guy. The commercial will give them something to relate to as soon as they start playing.
Besides one of the best PS3 commercials ever was live action.
That was pretty painful to watch....Hope they make a better because this one is pretty cheesy
The problem i see with the commercial is that it doesnt really show anything for people that are unaware of ARR. just makes me wonder who the commercial was for. The only people that would "get it" are people that already played XIV and tested in the beta. Anyone else outside of this is just gonna see this commercial and go "what? what did i just watch?"
The commercial does not do the game justice. FOlks that have no idea what the game is about are left wondering saying WTF just happened and what has happened to the FF series!?!?!?
I agree horrible commercial. The freaking guy that is talking is the dude that does spongebob voice over. This game is going to be too awesome for such poor advertisement..
I think that SE got ripped off by the company that did this commercial.
Like others have already said, anyone that doesn't know about the game won't understand what did they just watch. If the targeted audience was new players, then this commercial doesn't accomplished this goal.
That live action one's just embarrassing, if that came on there's no way I'd pipe up with "Hey, that's the game I'm really looking forward to playing!". Stylistically it's about two decades late, shows nothing of the game itself and reinforces negative nerd/MMO stereotypes.
A better and cheaper commercial would have involved one chap taking a day to edit together some cool bits from the End of an Era, Dungeon Crawl and Primal trailers over one of the many great music tracks from the game - slap the FFXIV logo and release date on the end and you're done!
eww so ugly, plz make a new commercial
While this commercial does look like something that crawled up out of the 90s, it did not give me any feelings of nostalgia. Being a 90s kid myself, I mostly found it just embarrassing to watch. :/ Who, exactly, were they trying to appeal to here? If I try to gather together some real life friends to play this game with me, I will definitely not be showing them this commercial. I don't think that 10 year old kids with nerf guns was the audience they were trying to captivate, but that's what they got.
All these real life intertwining with FFXIV game life commercials are kind of blech. Just make a good commercial detailing some gameplay, music, and maybe some soundbytes from NPCs about the crisis in the world. Then put in the standard, "Will you be the one to save them?" or whatever.
These commercials remind me of the weird ass PS2 commercials in the early 2000s. You would have some dudes head all segmented and there'd be a PS2 logo inside somewhere. Not that the FFXIV commercials are equally weird, but they leave the viewer equally not knowing why they should care about it or what they are being asked to buy. It's just not good advertising imo.
My biggest qualm with this commercial is it literally puts us all down as a player base. TL/DR it suggests that our RL is garbage and we play this game to escape from our problems. It's quiet disrespectful honestly.
Yes, please! Just use the JP commercials and dub it in English. It's that simple. The Live Action commercial is soooo awful it makes people laugh in ridicule rather than want to play the game.
How can you hate on the live action commercial? I know when I watched it I imagined myself with a bunch of people out in the middle of nowhere standing in a crater listening to a old dude with a staff, while people around me turned into cats and steroid users before my eyes.
The problem isn't that it's live action. The problem is that it's bad. PS3's live action commercials have been very good on the whole, whether they are going for humor or epicness. This one goes for epic, but comes off as cheesy. The "Greatness Awaits" ad for PS3 is a masterful piece of advertising.
Ah, this could of been a better response if you had started with these three little words.
In my opinion.
For me, it wasn't bad. I personally think it was made to catch peoples attention, and be like...what the fuck was that, which it seems to be doing an excellent job of.
Don't worry.
Just remember that this is a thing, and it'll make everything better.

soo bad >..<
So let me get this strait... According to the Blog post :
You guys are assuming this was an NA targeted ad based on the fact that it has been seen on Syfy (an international network) and Adult Swim.Quote:
My sources at Square Enix Europe tell me that from concept to completion, the commercial has been a year-and-a-half in the making, and it will be debuting in PAL regions in the weeks before ARR launches (which is why we cannot post the actual video here yet).
I don't know, I think we might want to work on our observation skills, NA might not have been the target audience kids, NA might have just gotten added into the playlist.
For reference : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PAL_region
I can appreciate what they were going for in the commercial, but as mentioned it is EXTREMELY cheesy. The Japanese commercials are way better.
It's bad. It makes me feel more like a geek than anything else. BUT it's not as bad as the Family Auto Mart commercials I witnessed growing up.
It honestly felt like an old 1990's Power Rangers commercial.... which needs to stay back in the 1990's :/ Very cheesy and also 0 gameplay shown at ALL for a commercial about a MMORPG. Quite odd that their marketing chose this approach for the commercial >_>;
Every one of the commercials for FFXIV: ARR in america have been terrible. It's the voice acting man. It sounds like they took "Frank from marketing" at the NA Square-Enix headquarters and said, "Hey Frank, we need you to say these lines!"
Other then mentioning that my 11y old thought it was the coolest commercial ever, I'm not going to comment on the merits or downfalls of the commercial it's self, but assuming that it was made for NA, targeted solely toward, and that it's the only thing that SE has in store for NA is silly.
First off, considering the amount of hype generated at E3, and the fact that the NA servers for phase 4 were at max capacity the entire time, why would they actively try and make a bad situation worse by releasing ads for the NA market when they don't know what kind of server load there will be?
Say they start an ad blitz today with 3 new ads? Come the 27th even 10% more people try and log on then were trying to get on during beta, then the problem is way worse, no one gets on the server they want, huge queues, and SE gets a horrible release review.
People keep saying they need to release more and better ads for NA... did you not all play Phase 4? How many more people do you want on the servers at launch?
Give it a few weeks, let it die down, let the game get a good name going... THEN release some ads and drive up some traffic IF IT IS NEEDED.
I think they are doing exactly what they should be doing.
