Thank god they took that out, all hail the standard price! :D

i think the gearset system is dumb because you can only use a piece of gear once.. but what about items you can only keep 1 of? my warrior uses a tank and a dd set.. using the same weapon. my blm has a full int and a slightly less int for more m.acc set, using most of the same gear. so i can either make 1 gear set and deal with not having versatility.. or completely ignore the gearsets and use more inventory space because im constantly changing multiple pieces? if none of your gear overlap, youre doing it wrong
I don't know if has been told by SE aldready, but maybe if you don't put a piece into a gear set you will keep the one you have equiped at that moment.
All of us will play ARR regardless because we're used to going through horrible swaps and 30 mins of traveling around the world to swap gear. Many friends of mine who came from other MMORPGS took one look at the macros, and manual gear swaps and just because of that issue are now on GW2 or some other game.
Yeah they can limit our gear sets to 1 or 3 or something, but why would they? why not just give a gearset for all? too over powered? will it break the game? memory limits? I see no reason why they can't make our lives a hell of a lot easier and wouldn't.
For those people talking about "oh you can just go to town and swap your gear from your retainer..ect" remember the whole point of the Armory system from the first text example? where the guy is soloing on melee job, then goes to a dungeon with friends and switches to a mage on the spot, YEAH that was the whole draw to Armory. it didn't say "He solos on gladiator, then shows up at a dungeon and realizes he needs to switch to mage, then returns to town, finds his gear on retainer while everyone waits, fixes his macro, opps forgot something, be there in 10 mins I'm just looking for my shoes, and OK I'm ready 30 mins later!
they didn't say that because nobody wants to play like that and we shouldn't have to put up with it either, not when there's a better system they've already designed and implemented. Just make a gearset with each job so we can change to any job on the spot, it'll make the armory system as strong as It can be.
I think i got confused about gear swap. I through it was for swap your gear on the middle of a fight, so you have a key to switch from two type of gear depending what you need.
Yoshi allready told us that it prolly gonna be a gearset for every job. But why do so many ppl cry now cause you have to unlock them with quests? Is it really too hard todo something for these Sets....Quote:

It's really sad to see how many ppl just dont wanna do anything for gear/utility etc. it seems like they would prefer sitting in Uldah while they get everything.....
another complaint thread that bases its ideas on a mix of 1.X limitations and 2.0 thoughts. it really feels like people are just making these 2.0 posts just to keep a conversation going. how can you comment on a system no one has even tried yet? we have only heard from someone who read an interview somewhere in japanese and translated it roughly based off of disjointed information on an incomplete system.
I wouldn't mind seeing a mog sack or mog satchel type item again. Being able to store stuff in our player home will make it easier too, that's how XI was so acceptable.
But why put players through that hassle? Why should I have to go back to my 175 item retainer and scroll through a list thinking "Ok I want to switch to my carpenter, need these shoes, these two rings, this hat...." and 5 minutes later after I'm done crafting getting my gear together and crafting that single piece of lumber, put them all back onto the retainer so I can go through the list looking for my leatherworker gear so I can craft the leather I need, and then put all my leatherworker gear back so I can find my blacksmith gear so I can finally put a new primary tool together. What would be a quick 3-4 minute affair has now turned into a gear/retainer swap nightmare where I'm constantly scrolling through trying to remember which items I need for each class everytime I want to change.
No thank you.
If they are going to design this system right, they really need to make it flexible and easy to use. I wouldn't care if they gave my retainer 1,000 slots... If I have to manually scroll through to find the items everytime I want to switch my class, and then search my inventory to drop them back on my retainer, the system is far too cumbersome. Hypothetically they could put the mannequins in our mog house where we could run back and grab them, but why even bother with that? Make it easy to use and let us just have "more than enough" space for the classes we want to play. It needs to be at least one per available class, and if SE wanted to be nice, allow for additional ones to be unlocked via quest for people that want to set up multiple gear sets for a single job that might do different roles.
Have you heard anything about them working on the gear set system? it is still a work in progress but it takes the gear out of your inventory and puts it in a gear tab that you can instantly switch to at any given time. they still need to work on it because from the sounds of it you cant use the same piece of gear in multiple sets, but this will more than likely be ironed out before the release of ARR.
Why dont they have unlimited inventory? you think its a pain to sort through 175 slots.... its about inventory management and organization. helps with the "horders", keeps the flow of items circulating either through discarding, selling to other players, or trading to friends who can use it.
as i said before, this is a frivolous complaint based on rumor, conjecture, incomplete information, and a system we have yet to actually use. it is an opinion formed out of fear and lack of foresight. i'm sure they will provide other methods of upgradeable storage in your mog house, guild bank and there is always mule chrs if you are that much of a pack rat. but seriously, do you need to hang on to every little item you pick up? toss the junk and make room for useful items.
So you want a system where you click a button and everything happens and you dont have to think about anything? FF never was a game where you could just faceroll everything and i hope it never will turn into one of these games...
We gonna be able to unlock a set for each job, if we want multiple sets for a job we gonna have to sacrifice inventory space or use multiple sets for 1 job and leave some gear at the retainer. I dislike this WOW mentallity where just everyone gets everything without having todo anything for it....
I think the inventory situation will be fine. I'm hoping that every class will eventually get a gearset, so that'll take a lot out of personal and retainer inventories. Once those items are out, it's mainly consumables that are absolutely necessary to have in your immediate inventory.
As others have mentioned, there will also be a mail system and you can setup alts for storage as well. With level sync, multiple pieces of gear shouldn't have to be hoarded away, unless you have some sentimental value towards it that you just can't bear to part with it. I don't really have that problem so my inventory should stay rather tidy. :P
Oh? Is that why is only takes like a week to get a job at max level? Is that way we have tons of level 50 who don't know how to play their jobs, what their own moves do, and what different stats they use?
You have to be joking. This entire game is a push button receive reward game.
I see people pointing back to this... That's 2 different sets of gear. Even if we got no gear sets at all, and only 100 inventory slots, you could still pull that off and have room for your loot 'n mats 'n junk. Heck, in the full example, Mr. Average Player then switched to Fishing. Only mentions his fishing rod, but even if you wanna go all out with gear just for gathering as well. That's 3 sets. You're still left with plenty of room in your inventory and that's still in the "what if we didn't even get gear sets" scenario.
It was never about being able to switch between every class in the game complete with full gear at any point in the game. It was about being able to take equipment with you to work on soloing one class, but be able to jump in with a party with a higher level class, and then work on gathering, all without having to go back to town.
Having multiple sets of gear for the same class seems excessive to me, but that's just my opinion. There's nothing saying you can't use your normal inventory slots for gear as well. If you really need all 100 slots for something other than gear, I would consider that SE can't please everyone all of the time.
