I'd rather have something like a magic spell like scan to see monster weaknesses and materia etc, and can share that information with your party.

Looks like a good idea. Hope they do something like this ^_^
I agree with the Bestiary idea, as well as the idea of item drops being shown in the bestiary as well, but only after you've seen them drop. Until the item drops, then it should just show ???'s. that way we will keep trying since we know there is something missing that we haven't gotten. :)
/signed Awesome ideas man.
should be pretty able to do beings there are only like 10 mobs in the game

This would be amazing if something like this gets implimented!
bumped, I love this idea!
i got 2 words for this
ANDROID APP
(OR iOS whatever floats your boat).
This is a great proposal I wonder if they have said anything new about this..
Make it happen .. Bayohne try to find any news about this. It will be really great
Absolutely love this idea.
Could take it one step further and not only make it available from the main menu, but also give all classes the option for Libra spell at 0 action points and 0 TP or MP to use. Then it can be added to your action bar to bring up quickly in battle with your target being the source of the search, so that information on that mob appears when action is used.
That way you can see how much information you have collected on said monster before, after and during battle with it.
Yeah I know some ppl are going to balk at having nother action to clutter their action bar. :P Especially THM and CON's. But that is why its also available through Main menu. You just can't quick search that way by just targeting the mob.
Kinda bringing in a little XIII into game :)
I like this idea (found through Jynx's sig).
Even MapleStory has a "Monster Book" where you earn rewards for hunting every kind of monster and collecting the cards they drop. Monsters are grouped into "sets" (by the general areas where they are found) and completing a set earns you rewards. The monster book itself is even an equipment item that gains stats as you collect more monster cards.
Personally I'd love to hear if the developers have anything else to say on this subject but like most things if it's in the works I would assume it will be a 2.0 launch (Or pre-launch) goody.
This would be fun and add to those players who want to track stats of how many times they have killed said monster, etc. :)
Love it!
I support this. Always good to add onto lore.
Would also love to see an ingame bestairy and have it linked with a card game.
I think this is an utterly brilliant idea. Warhammer online had its tome, which gave you things to find out, information about monsters, areas, lore; heck even equipment. It would be a great way of immersing yourself in the game.
Bestiary yesplease, several Final Fantasy games had bestiaries in game, with various info.
Lore is a great addition.
The possibilites for how players can aquire the bestiary info in game are endless.
it is indeed a good idea. though i might not like all of it. I am sure that SE would do a great job implementing such a feature, though i do kind of like the info being displayed on the mob still, even if it is only after you learn it.
I'd still love to know if the required changes were made during the battle system revamp or if 2.0 has any bestiary related tid-bits for us.
Any new info about this ^_^".
If the devs take any ideas from us little forum people, it should be this one.

also can't talk about the details but also planning to have something like a monster reference book
Jynx wins. :D
Pretty pumped knowing that we will (Hopefully) get a Bestiary in the game, heres hoping that it's chalk full of information lore and data wise.
But who needs confirmation? Let's party!

Being allowed to see the level range/spawning area of each of the monsters you have already beaten could have been a brilliant idea, so as to quickly know where the appropriate spots to level up are, but now it's been more a less explicitly said grinding will be quite useless in 2.0, the idea has lost a bit of its interest...
I thought XIII had an awesome bestiary, where it filled out as your party discovered weaknesses and immunity in battle. Either that or post-battle data gathering would be nice. I also think bestiaries should be shared between players, and there should be achievements for unlocking all varieties of each monster family, as well as finishing the bestiary entirely.
Idk if this has been mentioned before, but assuming that they are going to keep the high level mobs come 2.0, I think there should be two different ways of adding mobs to the bestiary:
1) Defeating the mob in battle.
2) Casting a "Scan" spell that has a long cast time, long enough that you need to be careful that the mob doesn't see you and kill you, but short enough so it doesn't become too tedious. Perhaps 30 seconds or so?
Since defeating 80+ mobs will be almost impossible, the scan spell will still allow them to be put in the bestiary.
A good way to collect in-game, tradable battle cards, so let them drop from mobs. We could earn them from NPCs too. Bestiary is a fine idea for traditionally having it in FFxiv but I also want it work towards in-game card battles & trading(a passive form of PvP, Triple Trade Masters line up!).
>>> Make Achievements work for you: every one you get, your awarded a new battle card withe better stats of the ones you already have, cool huh?
Awesome idea. Like in FFXIII-2 (with 3D View) and information.
Just a bit of slightly related info from the media tour.
Hopefully just a stepping stone into a fully implemented Bestiary full of lore and missions.Quote:
After I cleared out the first few quests, I finished up my main story quest, which left me with a message to wait for a level or two before the next quest. (Helpfully, major quest lines have an icon indicating that you can't get the quest yet as well as information about when the next one will be available.) I also finished my first Lancer quest and unlocked the Hunting Log, which is a new feature I instantly fell in love with.
Each class has a different hunting log, and each log has multiple tiers consisting of several targets. My Lancer's first few tiers included Marmots, Funguars, and Ladybugs. Upon killing a designated number of these enemies, you get some gil, some experience, and a mark toward completing a tier. Complete one tier and you unlock the next one.
Simple? Definitely. But it also gives you added incentives to go out and kill things as well as another objective to work toward. The log has other major benefits as well, but for combat-related classes, the impetus to go out and fight multiple targets really spoke to me.
