Well S-E Europe HQ is in Wimbledon, so here's to hoping they've got a spare room in there!

They really only had to optimize servers well and let some reliance be on the client rather than the servers and that would eliminate a lot of problems right there, since this Atomos event is perfect example, gathering a lot of people makes the game itself unresponsive whereas in FFXI, I can function just fine even with as little as 220 people and as much as 700 (besieged), the only delay I've ever experience was the first few months which they somehow sorted out.
These are sad news. I hoped they would keep the servers international as in XI and the current XIV. It's a little something I always liked about them.
Come to think of it, how come they were able to pull that off just fine in XI without nearly as much lag, yet they have to resort to this in XIV?
Aye, but SE is pretty adamant against client-side anything because of botting or hacking. Which is a silly reason, but whatever.
I played WoW for fun, of course I compared myself to other members in my guild, because I wanted to better myself. It was a challenge. I can play a video game for a challenge. RPGs in general are about gear. Better gear = better stats. Stats are what makes an RPG an RPG. Farming exists in all MMOs, maybe the genre isn't for you if you're so against it. This community sure does love it's overgeneralizations though.
They need to just deal with that stuff as it comes by, not make everything hard on everyone that cares. Most of the latency problems with XIV were because every action response was server dependant. This was talked about a long long time ago, why cant they get it through their heads?
Well, probably everyone I know is in NA so not a big deal for me. But I can't see too many people going out of their way to pick a server outside of their physical region due to latency. People that have friends in Europe and Asia are more than likely going to get separated.
Well at least the people who have been frustrated by "JP ONRY" have something to celebrate. All my ls buddies and such are NA for the most part, so not too worried
Watch our servers be junk, break constantly, and take days to fix. >.>
the only way i can see this work is if i can select the world everytime i log in.
if i play during the daytime i'll connect to the EU server.
if i want to play during the nighttime i'll connect to the NA one.
(i know this isn't gonna happen.)
This really sucks, especially because there are a lot of English speaking players that don't live in North America, but if I want a lag free (or minimal lag) server, guess which one I'll have to pick? Plus a lot of my friends (like Seirra) don't live in NA so I'll be losing out on a good chunk of awesome people no matter which server I pick.
I kept laughing at the WoW clone claims we were constantly getting all the time, but after all this time they just might have been right.
I won't be quitting over this but there's just no way for me to even explain how massively disappointed I am to have to break up my community like this.
I'll create a new Character on the JP server, just in case stuff goes down badly on NA server and I still want to play.
How can we even compromise with this:
- Only one data center in Japan that everyone goes into, No segregation, but may experiences alot of lag for users that are far away.
-Multiple Data Centers across the world, which a person can go to the closest data center, little to no lag at all, however There is a possibility of segregation.
So the question becomes: Do you want lag with no Segregation? or Do you want no Lag with segregation?
Most likely impossible. What about your retainers? Do they stay on the same server or move with you? What if there's an LS with the same name on a different server.
I mean I'd love to see it work like this but it's highly unlikely. Not like SE would bother to make a system that actually help us form communities instead of completely obliterating them.
Wynn, your answer seemed a bit sarcastic. I take it it may not be important to you to play with the Japanese, the French, the German or the Australian. But it is to me. And obviously, if I choose one server that accommodates just one of those communities, I'll be losing a lot.
Antipika, do you expect it to be easy to convince 80 people from different regions to move to the same server? And a JP one at that, when most of the community in those servers will lack NA/EU players that prefer everyone speaking their language?
This change is only truly beneficial to those who do not care about anyone else but their own communities, that have only friends from the same region and that will move to the server closest to them. I wonder if this is the situation of the majority of FFXIV players.
"To be, or not to be: that is the question.".
I don't know how it will affect player communities, but I definitely disagree with this decision.
Here's goodye to all over seas friends I have made on Ridill, and hello new NA friends!
Well, I genuinely didn't mean it to be sarcastic. It is the truth. That is exactly what is going to happen from the viewpoint of people who choose to stay behind on the old servers. I'm sure anyone that thinks like you do is simply going to stay put on whatever server they are on.
But you are wrong about something. This change is beneficial to people who care about their own gameplay experience. It has nothing to do with community.
If your friends are really genuine, you are all going to stay together anyway. And if not, perhaps they weren't really your friends to begin with since they care more about server ping time than playing with you. Just food for thought.
raise a good point with the retainers, i didn't think of that.
maybe they'll just stay there where you left em and you'll have to log back to 'your world' to go check on em.
the LS could easily be changed with a little prefix (LSsamename1, LSsamename2)
like i said, it was wishful thinking. it would keep us all connected..?
That made me sad...
Community as we know will change.
I'm from Brazil, so i'll probably have to pick a NA server.
Double post but... another big issue is the timezone difference.
Currently my EG LS is NA based; I already have issues to attend some of their events. There are only 1 EU EG LS on my server that I'm aware and I've grown attached to mine. With longer raids it's very likely this will become worse, and with the EU community being as small as it is, what can happen is I'd be forced to go to an "EU" (since a lot of EUs would likely choose to move/new players create on a EU server) server to have a shot at EG in appropriate timezones, completely leaving behind these friends I've made, including non NA ones that had decided to stay in the NA server.
Sorry for my not so good english... I don't think my point was made properly, but I hope it did!
It is perfectly logical, Soube...
If someone you play with values their server lag over playing with you, it is an absolute prioritization and you are on the losing end. Can't get much more logical than that. It's just that kind of truth hurts to hear. I understand. Doesn't make it any less a reality.
Do you really believe this change will improve upon the gameplay that much? I don't experience much lag at all, besides with the UI and menus. I'm used to playing competitive games with 180ms latency, and it isn't noticeable. They're not tournaments, nor am I a professional, but FFXIV also isn't an E-sport nor does it need lag free gameplay only a professional player would notice.Quote:

I personally think the benefit will be greatly outweighed by the separation of players.
