The biggest reason dreamcast died was you could burn a copy of any game onto any CD and it would play without any mods. after that no one bought games and the rest is history. i hate to say it but i hope nintendo goes the same way and just becomes a game developer or only focus on their handhelds, they are good at those.

You are forgetting that Yoshi-P said how scaleable this game is with its graphics and UI. He said that he wishes to get this game out on as many platforms as he possibly can to expand the community. Right now the game is #1 priority for the PS3 release, then they will see where else they can release the game on, mainly the X360 and Wii U. Then again, if the game is on the X360, it will be restricted as much just like the PS3 version (memory limitations). But it would do better on the Wii U because it has 1GB of memory or so.

well, as long as they dont have to kill the PC version for the sake of the Wii U then i guess having options is good. maybe its just my bias agains nintendo ever since the 64 came out. havent bought a nintendo console from the 64 and beyond. aside from their hand helds. speaking of which, i hope they make FFXIV for the 3DS! that would be sweet to play this anywhere!

Nintendo makes good hardware and unlike the other two companies, they have good business models and practices. Plus they don't sell their hardware at a loss like Sony does. I would own a PlayStation, but I don't like any of the games on their except for Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy. The other games just don't interest me.

the buisness model i dont agree with is their damn controllers. they started the standard we see on every other system today with the super nintento controller but since then they have done nothing but "innovate" the controls. it would be like keyboard manufacturers "innovating" the keyboard every few years by completely rearranging the placement of the letters on a keyboard and changing its shape. Click here for an example of what i'm talking about their gimmicky control systems have attracted a few people for a few games for a short period. the Wii especially. and now they are going to have this giant boat of a controller that i can see getting frustrating to continue to hold for an extended period of time (i know my hands get tired holding a PSP for any length of time).

but this is just my personal opinion and i know there are many people who will buy and love this system, and thats their choice. that was why i said it wouldn't be a terrible thing to release it on the Wii U cause it would reach another audience that it might otherwise not. I for one will not even buy a Wii U even though i used to really enjoy the metroid, Zelda, and mario games. its just not my cup of tea. i apologize for my first posting of NO NO NO and retract my initial reaction. I just hope you can respect my choices and reasons just as i respect peoples support of this coming soon to a Wii U near you.

To the people that say the Wii U won't even last till the released of ARR, go try and Pre-order one right now, good luck with that.

Wow it's cool man nobody is telling you to get a wii U. This isn't the console wars forum.

Even though I'm looking forward to Wii U (especially new new smb) I also play and will continue to play on all other platforms as well. They all have their benefits and personally I don't see the point of siding with any mega-company.

I think that if there is significant interest in ARR that it would be nice to see it on several platforms, including the Wii U.

I would rather first see a native GNU/Linux client. I believe that would cause the game to be available on all kinds of platforms without SE needing to do any more work themselves, as the GNU community is well known for making things happen without monetary compensation.

I am not quite sure why people so dislike Nintendo, but they also said that the Wii would flop because it "wasn't for gamers." I do not seem to remember any Xbox or Playstation system being consistently sold out for over 16 months consecutively.

People are upset at Nintendo for not buying High priced third party exclusives. They just don't realize it. The reason Xbox has so many exclusive games and add-ons is not because it's the most popular. It's because Microsoft literally buys them. Nintendo realized this time, if they are going to want third party support they are going to have to pay for it, one way or another. Now we have Bayonetta, ZombieU and the Real Ninja Gaiden 3 exclusive and Third party companies working on Smash Bros, Metroid and Star Fox.

Don't worry though, the last laugh will be Nintendo's when 720 requires a two year contract and PS4 cost $600 and the human eye can't regester the Difference between 1080 at 60 fps and 1080 at 60 fps.

I waited outside the GameStop near me at 9AM on the 13th. Got inside at 10 and asked about preorders while the Nintendo conference was starting. I then put some money down on a game I didn't want, so the GameStop worker then switched my $50 towards the preorders the next day for the Wii U. I was the first one to preorder one. Lol.

One could argue your point however with the Nintendo 64. It tried to stay with the standard cartridges instead of moving onto the CD platform that has much more memory (at the time), and it backfired on Nintendo immensely. The industry requires Innovation to both thrive and survive, weather or not it's a cheap gimmick or a sound choice.

In Nintendo's case they wanted to stand out from the competition and try to attract more customers to their product with the more casual and user friendly interface. Apples "gimmick" was similar by making a very user friendly phone, which at the time made them stand out above other phones. Frankly the only difference between the introduction of the Wii and the iPhone is Nintendo's still trying to bring people something both familiar and completely different to enhance peoples gameplay experience, Apple comes out with a slightly better phone every year and has done little to really innovate their product beyond standard upgrades.

Either way, I'm pleased with Nintendo's improvements and new goals to try and pull the more hard core gamer back over, though I loved alot of the games that has been released on the 360 and PS3 I can't afford their higher than average prices nor the poor quality that causes them to break down so often.

I think it could be an interesting way to play an mmo with paddles like that especially with battles and maybe with crafting lol , but I think it would make it too complicated unless they put a small keyboard on the controller :)

Just like any other console, it can bring up an onscreen keyboard when text input is needed, but since it's coming up on a touch screen, you can type on it (It's almost large enough to type semi-naturally). For this reason The Wii U is the only console platform I'd consider playing this game on. Even then, PC would still be my main platform, but I could see using the Wii U.

Not to mention you can already play those thing with controller just fine.

Also besides inputting commands via buttons and pad there's also the possibility of plugging in any old keynoard in your home. In the unlikely event that you'd really want to.

Personally I'd rather chat via screen like in XI using the chatpad.

I say whether they port it to the Wii U or not depends on 2.0's success.

It comes down to production cost and profitability, developing on a new console isn't cheap and they've already put 100-200mil (or more) into this game. 2.0/ps3 launch will have to show them it's profitable, they've already spent so much money on the two versions they've produced if it's not crystal clear that it would be profitable they won't risk it.

If 2.0 is a big success then it comes down to if Nintendo's going to work with them. XI was never ported to the Wii mainly because of it's online service (the friend code thing).



And to those betting against the Wii U... I'm definitely not a fanboy (don't even own a Wii) but the preorders are sold out and I believe they have a Japanese bundle launching with monster hunter 3? It has the chance to have the best console launch in history, or at least in Japan. Anybody who's already calling it a failure has no idea what they're talking about.

I just don't like the idea of (Region-lock) from nintendo which makes me stay with PS3 & PC, for FFXIV on Wii u ~ some people might like it but not me.

This game needs something like the Wuu remote, so I can surf the web for recipes that the game can't remember, or / commands that ain't documented in game.

Or just use the ingame recipe book coming with ARR

alot of ppl here seem to be able to predict the future ... i believe the wiiu will be alot more popular than than ps3 or xbox 360. The hardware should be able to handle ARR better than ps3. SE already published a MMO for the WII and plans the same one one WIIU.

So yes i think ARR could be ported to WIIU but not earlier than 2014, no sense in porting if the console is not distributed enough

I am sorry, did you just say that your solution for nintendo region locking the Wii U was to go to the PS3 which has a lineage of being region locked from the playstation on? Sony region locks all hardware, whether it be handheld or console.

Considering that the 3DS already lets you browse the web mid game, and that the Wii U is reserving a ridiculous amount of memory for system tasks, it will be very likely that even during online games you will be able to browse on the Wii U.

I mean the system alone has 4x as much RAM as the entire PS3, and the game is fully allocated the same amount to use exclusively itself, so this is not a limitation that is going to be of concern.

Might as well go back to FFXi if you wanna play with those graphics again WiiU = ntu

Xbox version was off the table litrally years ago when the discussions ended because Microsoft's new policy regarding no new online games being allowed to communicate with other platforms.

ok, my apologies. i thought i heard some talk at gamescom about xbox but i could be wrong. i'm not perfect. if thats the only bone of contention out of my post then i guess the rest still stands. and its all on my opinion, its the course and thinking that makes the most sense to me.
one questions though, why is it not for the Mac then? if microsoft (owners of windows) dosent want to talk to other platforms, why are they talking to sony's PS3? just confused. is it just xbox's policy and not microsofts policy?

I really hope it does come out on the Wii U and I wish people would actually think before shooting down the idea because if it did come to the Wii U that would bring the game more players and that never hurts. Also it would be fitting for Wii U since they are taking a more direct online approach this time around to have a Final Fantasy as an MMO on their console.

The Wii U sells good like it seems.

and on the other hand wii u is a complete new console, which should give FFXIV a longer life on Wii U than on the ps3.

Wii U -> longer support than ps3 -> full hd -> more memory and power -> same number of controller buttons -> touchscreen for chat, inventory etc.


SE should do it.. unfortunatley that wasn't a question at the last live letter...

The missus, poor thing, will be playing this on our PS3. I fear what corners they've cut to make this game run on a machine with 32KB of RAM.

Would like to see it on Wii-U eventually, so we can shelve this bastardized port.
