That's funny, I seem to remember a lot of people favoring FFVII over FFXIII. Graphics don't make the game fun. The game makes itself fun. If it were all graphics, then people would have enjoyed 1.0 more.

but....the grass...
If you were looking at a console version of the game I am sure it will have lowered graphics. PS3 only has 256K of Ram. Even the 3.2 Ghz Pentium 4 processor is pretty out dated by i5 or i7 standards.
That the gameplay will be better will make it into an overall more well received game, but that doesn't excuse the drop in visual quality. I'm not convinced they did everything they could to scale the engine up to the current spec PCs that are running FFXIV.
Gotta love this. His way of proving it is to ask you to think about how true it is! lol

As for the hardware requirements for playing the game, while the specs for the demo machine used at the event were unannounced, apparently, any machine powerful enough to play the current Final Fantasy XIV will be able to run A Realm Reborn without any necessary upgrades.

I never said the demos weren't set to high, I just said that they had to consider lower end PCs and the PS3 as well, which could attribute to what people are calling a "graphics downgrade". Personally if that's the extent of the "downgrade" I'll be quite happy to play it.Quote:
Yoshida: We didn’t put the sticker of the i5 atop the i7 *everyone laughs* it is her work pc, she does all her work on this notebook. This is definitely not a gaming computer. In the video every graphic setting was set to high, these are set to low – You can barely see the difference.
[Fredericks notes: Even on lowest settings the PC version looked good!]
Edit: I did say that we hadn't seen the difference between high and low, we still haven't but apparently it's not a ton.
maybe your wearing coke bottle glasses from 1980? Its obvious the game engine is much more refined and capable of delvering better than the current one...... All those trees are casting shadows so are some structures. They waver and it doesnt look like a swarm of bees like in the current version. The "grass" aka foliage and plants are improved. People that think otherwise need to visit there eye doctor. Each zone is highly stylized to reflect the region and there are even more stylized areas within each region. Trees that change color as u progress thru the zone. More than just 2 tree models there are multiple this time. I bet this new engine is able to allow higher settings than the current build on lower spec PCs and even better settings on stronger PCs.
yes they def are but dont tell that to the glue sniffers posting grass threads theyll all throw monkey shit at you. Its a damn night and day comparison. The shader technology on the new engine is 10000000000000000000000000000xs better than 1.0 alone and all the new assets/ structures etc are capable of producing shadows unlike 1.0 which really annoys the hell outa me.
DAT GRASS 10ch
i just think the games is running on medium like everything else they show. the grass looks more like weeds.
Exactly, these Graphics are better than 2.0 for 2 reasons: Textures and Shadows.. the Rocks actually look like Rocks. And the Shadows ( When Zoomed in) are excellent! :D.
It seems they have more than 2 types of Trees Rocks etc etc, to me from a Couple of Screenshots I can see at least 5 different types of Trees ( could be more) but that's what I spotted anyhow. I'm just happy I don't have to see the same tree every 5 secs.. it will make me not wanna teleport to my destination every event I do! :D.
From far away 2.0 looks ok, just don't zoom in, for the love of god!
Textures got reduced though, actually.
Overall, those gameplay videos make the game look like a definite improvement, but seeing some of the screenshots really make you second guess. Especially that Warhammer Online-esque cathedral. It looks really bad and dated. And, just in general, textures on surfaces look terrible in those 2.0 screenshots.
The shadow effects look good though. It's just a shame that some stuff had to be reduced (such as texture quality). It will be interesting to see environments like Uldah where the overhead shadow effects don't play as significant a role.
Anyone complaining about textures needs to look a little harder...

That does not look like low quality textures being used... And really do we want ultra-high resolution textures? NO! They take up valuable video ram and don't improve the overall appearance by much.
They are still working on the lighting which might change some more + characters hair supposed to improve some more.
YoshiP did say they want to make player character stand out so wouldn't worry too much about it either. Grass... OMFG... grass!!... get over it...
I completely agree with this - I still can play the original Atari, NES, SNES, N64, PS1... etc...etc... without thinking about the quality of graphics, I will be like damn the times have changes so much but that won't affect my gaming experience.
