Don't like, don't buy.

This extremely disappointing.
My FC and I have been asking for tabletop pizza for YEARS, as we intended to make a pizza joint.
Imagine our disappointment when they first put the eat pizza emote behind a campaign unavailable to us (we're outside US) and "fortunately" later on cash shop
The tabletop pizza is even worse, it expensive for what it is,have limited use, and you cannot make it non interactive version of it.
This effective made us let go of that dream.
Putting the promo emotes on the store makes sense, since they tend to connect them to IRL instances or companies in some regard - like the KFC Emote that's JP Only(even though us in NA don't get it with it being prevalent).
I do have problem with how they localize them, though, since it feels more like they're trying to focus on 'culture' than they are just including something broad. Their thing on Furnishings technically needs to go as well, since there is a MASSIVE catalog of furnishings from events that haven't be reintroduced in years, like the Christmas Tree that runs for essentially 10M+ Gil or more.
Regardless, I'm going to sit and wait to see what they actually do next, because the content cadence has stepped up a bit to keep people playing from what I've noticed.
7.11 Being Ultimate on 11/26, 7.15 being Hildibrand(and other things, which I'm keeping my eyes peeled for emotes) 12/17, 7.16 being Chaotic CoD 12/24 in the current line-up. So we're essentially looking at a 2/3/1 Content Cadence, with whatever crap they throw in-between.
The emote section of 14's store is $272.50 in total, as noted in another thread I got bored and did the math. The majority of this is $7 emotes, out of 56 emotes on the store 25 of them are $7. I just go very curious and ran the numbers here after seeing monetization being thrown about a lot recently without much actual data.
Alright. It's been a while - and considering this is an old thread that's mainly been about emotes, let's go on the side tangent, shall we?
THIS.
So...where do I start with this?
Let's start with monetization. We're literally looking at one of the priciest outfits on the store - that actually can come INDIVIDUALLY! Like, what the actual f*#$ SE? We've got details that actual make sense, from the beanie hat to the arms, not to mention it's slick.
$22.00 for a single outfit. There are a few other outfits on the store that cost that same amount, and it's kinda annoying when you go to the amount of detail added to these outfits, compared to those that are in-game and cost nothing but what we already pay for. Like, if we could get the same level of detail with our normal gear, maybe we could actually get something nice.
Hashtag cashshopstrike?
I am very grateful that they eventually unlocked those ancient NPC emotes for us. That's a lot of effort from SE, we have to respect that!
Not sure if I understand, but for example Scientist Attire and Wintertide had quite some detail to it? I am happy to see that they finally made some free quality items. I agree tho that $22 is too expensive. Besides, as I already mentioned in another thread, this set doesn't even offer two unique shirts like Streetwear, only one shirt model with a variation of it. Rip-off.
I stopped consuming cash shop because it's getting ridiculously expensive and the game is lacking. I am considering to unsub if 7.2 is disappointing, so I don't bother buying anything.
Here we are again. We got a Jojo Pose apparently, but that's about it. Small Patch for a drop in the bucket is still a step towards reaching 10%(which honestly will probably take a lifetime given how SE LOVES to abuse monetization...)
Seasonal events don't even worry about being engaging now. The gameplay and story don't matter when people only care about the items! Then they can wait a year to increase demand and put it up on the Mog Shop. Easy money. They would periodically have mini-games and FATEs for the seasonal quests, but that's too much effort, isn't it, Yoshida?
OP is ahead of his time. The people aren't ready. Just wait until there's a raid with an emote rewards, then the uprising will begin.
Op u gotta stop us from buying those 200.00+ emotes first.
>make new PVP alt
>have to buy the play dead emote again
Reeeeeeeeeeeee
At least it's cheaper than a fantasia.
Can’t edit on mobile, but just PSA on the Valentione’s Event: Limited Time Emote, gonna sit around and wait for a year before it goes to the store AGAIN.
Updated % is 39.2%, 60/153 emotes since we all know what happens.
Yet again, can’t edit on mobile: But that Instax camera you THOUGHT was gonna be monetized actually isn’t. It’s a free emote that everyone can use regardless of region.
New % will be updated when I get home from 39.2% -> 38.9%. This will be done on 2/25, btw; so Patch 7.18.
How else we suppose to flex our statue emotes. Hydaelyn, shiva, omega, ultima, and odin????
I thought every MMO does this? Is FFXIV the only one with a cash shop?
Oh it’s a standard, but as a reminder we don’t want to end up like WoW and their cash shop. The more emotes that are available from gameplay, the better considering we’re paying $15/mo + $5 for a hairstyle we’ve been asking forever + $7 for an emote. That’s a lot to ask for one person in today’s economy. Also, did I forget to mention that NONE OF THESE ARE GLOBAL FOR ALL CHARACTERS?
The only other MMO I’ve really played is ESO, but since that’s free to play I wasn’t sure their cash shop type stuff would compare to FFXIV’s.
I’d like to think there’s a middle ground between ‘egregious cash shop stuff’ and ‘extra stuff people can buy if they want to’. I mean, whales can/have propped up a ton of mobile games that may have died long before if they hadn’t paid anything lol. But then, that just raises the question of how much money do they need when we’re already paying subs lol. Mobile games are only reliant on whaling because they tend to be free to play, after all. Where did all the money from subs go? Lol
As for not having purchases apply globally I do agree that it just feels like aggressive marketing / a way to artificially increase sales / whatever you want to call it. Especially in terms of emotes and hairstyles; it makes no sense to me that you have to buy a hairstyle separately for every character you’ve created. Frankly I can’t really think of any ‘mog station purchase’ that would, by necessity, only be available to a single character.
Personally I’ve made some minor purchases on Mogstation, fantasia and the Macherie outfit from War of the Visions. Personally I’d say that kind of ‘collab’ gear makes the most sense to me as ‘Mogstation’ purchases. In that, it’s an outfit not really related to anything in the game and is mostly just a promotional thing. It wouldn’t make a lot of sense if it randomly appeared in the game anyway, so I think stuff like that is fine. But when it comes to a lot of the stuff that is there, there’s definitely a sense of ‘couldn’t this have just been something for the actual game?’ lol. Not to mention some of the crazy pricing lol
Oh no, I would consider ESO way worse than XIV in terms of cash shop, ESO is designed to be painful to play without ESO+ so it might as well be a subscription MMO, and their cash shop is not only full of FOMO, it's heavily lootbox focused, with scarcely any outfits being obtainable without lootboxes or purchases.
A better comparison for the feeling you are going for, I feel, is GW2, which is pay to play without any subscription, not even the option to subscribe exists, and while they do employ FOMO tactics and lootboxes, they also allow you to buy cash shop currency with in-game gold at reasonable rates, in fact those rates are automatically calculated based on total currency that exists in the game, meaning you can reasonably get anything you want without paying.
Honestly I blacklist people who flex those emotes in game. Because paying 400 dollars to flex your wealth in limsa or in COD is really not a good personality trait when some ppl are living with barley enough. Not just that but openly paying 400 dollars to this game despite none of it going back in... yea. No. We can't be friends, ever
not everything is bait and has to be dismissed as such .....feels more like you're attempting at trolling but failing miserably...
that being said..
a sub based game having so many items put into a CS only means they know their...uhm...fanbase ...will buy anything and everything no matter how absurd and ridiculous is , not much we can do unless everyone is in unison, alas, doubt it'll happen
Well folks. Looks like we're getting more emotes.
They aren't locked to the cash shop either, and while we are getting looping functions for /read and /tomestone, I'm not adding those in the % since they're separate actions for one emote. It's a nice QoL, but the only one that's getting added is /dazed, if you checked the Preliminary Notes. It'll be here on 3/25(Patch Day) and my guess is it'll be from either a side story, MSQ, or from Cenote Ja Ja Gural(most likely this).
yeah it would be nice if the 7$ dance emotes were like 2$ like the bomb dance and little ladies' dance.
7$ is very expensive for one emote... 2$ is much more reasonable. how many years do i gotta wait for them to drop the 7$ emotes to 2$?
