oh man if they add East Coast servers on NA that would be a easy sure why not type of thing. Idk if its good idea without a mid bridge type of thing. Sure it work but no one would do hard content savage, extremes or ultimates an such with trade of high ping, that be only good for casuals, social and rp players. They can do it, but it a waste without a good trade.
I'm so glad the community is proving to always be agaisnt any kind of actual evolution to this game towards a better direction, even people being able to play together on other regions apparently is a problem because "muh aether omg !!! stop players from having fun on aetherrrr !!!!"
jesus christ lmao, I always say that SE is agaisnt good change because they're just being lazy, but man if I had to deal with yall I'd do the same and just give up and leave you with the same thing for 20 years
I have played two years on NA and the rest of the time on EU. From my own experience i can say this is not true, not at all. The amount of toxicity and sheer insanity i have seen on NA compared to EU is unbelievable. So yeah no, we are good over here on EU. You can keep your people who rush hunts, spam public chats with degenerate stuff, don't let newbies watch cutscenes and are in general a menace to the playerbase. Or as Emet would phrase it "Have your recent quarrels with Asmongold teached you nothing?"
And if we wait on the JP community we can wait until the death of the universe. It's not like they value civility over everything else and NA is the antithesis to that...oh wait...it is exactly that.
You're really looking at things through rose-tinted glasses. Toxicity is like, everywhere lol. Maybe because I'm not a Limsa resident but it's mostly just advertisements when am there or when someone asks something. "Rushed hunts" are mostly if it's a bullet train, ofc people would rush. Not letting people watch cutscenes? This happens but am pretty sure this is just minority, majority of people let newbies watch cutscenes.
Besides, NA and EU servers were and a lot of NA and EU play together in gaming spaces. At least this goes for the English speaking part of EU. When EU does hunts, I doubt NA is even gonna be awake or be willing to travel. Otherwise dynamis trains itself wouldn't be so deadge.
Toxicity is everywhere is such a blanket statement. I save us a speech about why this is problematic, especially irl because we all know how bad the "But XYZ has this and that too" really is.
It is kinda obvious that every region has their own well dirtbags etc. but we aren't talking about that, right? Toxic gamer culture is disproportionately higher on NA than on EU and well obviously on EU than JP.
Again i played on both sides for a extensive amount of time and this was my experience. I actually enjoyed my time on NA too and i have an alt there to play with friends. I know most of it is anecdotal evidence but well we saw what the toxic trolling gamer culture did when a famous streamer played the game. We see how chats on NA are full of spam. And tbh...you are kinda the only region that has turned a whole city into an ERP hub. Like it or not there might be sooooome slight differences in culture cause i don't see that on EU.
In the end i am really torn about this tbh, i personally would love region travel to visit friends with my mainchar. I personally think that the price might just be a bit too high for that.
I would like to experience the NA ERP scene, yes to this suggestion.
That's fair enough. I technically didn't play in EU servers and mostly just said from my experience as a non-American IRL and how EU and NA overall interact. Especially since NA region also has a considerable amount of EU players too.
I wasn't there when that streamer was there so I honestly can't comment much on how that was like. I just heard people don't think too fondly of the exodus too.
What makes you think the resident troublemakers from every region would end up using cross region travel? Ping issues alone would deter most of them if not all.
SE is also more likely to come down hard on cross region trouble makers because they want players to respect how local communities already operate.
The entire purpose of adding data center travel (including the cross region travel that is on hold) was to allow players to play with friends on other data centers/regions, just as you intend to use it. The best thing to do is let it happen and see if there are specific problems created then make corrections to handle those problems.
That's what they've now done with data center travel. After having 18 months to see how players would utilize it, they've now locked down any worlds that are on the Congested status and extended that to worlds experiencing temporary congestion issues. Last night about 7pm Pacific I wanted to go to Primal to buy something and couldn't because all Primal worlds were marked as temporarily congested. I suspect the reverse would have been true if my character was from Primal and trying to get to Crystal.
This shouldn't lead to the massive problems that some are fearing outside of the first week when a lot of players would want to try out the new feature. We saw the same when world visit was added. We saw the same when data center travel was added. Players rushed to try it out and then things settled down when it was reduced to the legitimate traffic. The PF problem did arise with players flocking to a single data center in each region for raids but ping is going to make the same happening cross region unlikely.
People keep saying this but then turn around and say the ping isn't an issue for raiding. Including the OP.
But hey if it's apparently so impossible to raid cross region (despite the opposing statements above) then it won't matter if the devs just disable public categories of the PF from voyagers and let the cross region statics sort themselves out in the passworded private category.
My only issue with traveling is how incompetent SquareEnix was when they implemented it. As an idea, it sounds cool. I got nothing against it. I don't raid, and I don't really care what it does to the party finder. The duty finder being borked yeah, but that is SquareEnix's problem. They are the dumb ones for giving the players that much power.
So until the tech catches up and 14 can catch up to games like Wow, you're gonna have this problem.
It's a waiting game at this point. But I'm not anti-travel.
I cannot speak for most of EU, but from what I've seen on the server I'm on:
- Most players do not care about what race you play and you will likely rarely get harassed for it if at all.
- They understand the concept of 18+
- LFGs for Hunt or FATE trains are declared in the open world, likely in the area they will take place
- Shouters are ignored or mocked.
- Many respect the roles of other players and will likely wait for the healer or tank should they lag behind for some reason (like they don't have their gap closer or sprint is on cooldown, or perhaps rolling on loot).
- RP is about quality not quantity, and OOC issues are tried to be resolved per tell, while keeping in-character.
- RP is organized over Discord, wchich has the advantage that they cannot get harassed by shouters or nightclub owners.
- Marketboard prices are still terrible, but there are usually people who sell things cheaper.
- Also no actual Gil is involved outside nightclubs.
I also like to travel between countries. Some of my fav streamer are from countries apart.
I talked about this before in other threads, but I like the idea of being able to travel between EU and NA servers. I don't know how much it would affect the raiding, but I have played on both EU and NA on my main and would like to visit friends again more easily. With the new blacklist system too, it makes it a bit harder for people to bother you (I would think, but who knows.)
bumping this thread
Didn't they say they would enable it if people asked? This is us asking, SE. I want to be able to visit my friends on NA.
I would love to have this enabled.
I don't care about raiding, but would point out one thing which people seem to be missing when worrying that EU raiders will suddenly want to invade the US DC; prime time for raiding on the NA DC is late night/early morning in the EU, anyone who wants to raid at 3am in their local time is likely already playing on the NA DC.
If you greenlight this I surely hope you had no plans to visit Aether ever in your lifetime if your main character isn't already there.
This is the point I've been trying to make in this thread. It's not a bad idea at some future time but this is absolutely not the time to implement this. NA DC players can't freely visit our own DCs right now unless it's Dynamis because of the restrictions put in about congested servers. Some DCs have only congested servers. A lot of people on other DCs get around this (my own static's Dynamis member for instance) by coming over at an early morning point when a server isn't congested and then parking on the DC for the time they want to do content there. So our servers never become non-congested. Now there would be the potential that EU players could come over and do the same thing and might even prevent some people who can travel now from being able to travel. It's not a good time for DC Travel on NA DCs.
It's not a bad idea for the future but SE has GOT to fix this issue where we can't even visit each other among our own region's DCs freely before they add EU doing it to the mix.
I don't disagree with the issue about Aether congestion. However, I believe it's being overestimated how many people from EU are going to go over to Aether; when that's not the only NA DC that exists in the first place. If we assume people go to Aether to raid, then EU won't have a reason to go to Aether just to PF when 1. Most likely at their good time NA might be asleep or PF on NA won't be as active during EU peak. 2. Why would you sacrifice ping to raid? Probably just to play with friends, but again, this number might be overestimated. 3. People from NA can go to EU too, not everyone wants to go over to NA all of a sudden.
I do believe this topic and the other are just seperate things. I only made this thread because Yoshi himself said they have the tech and is waiting for the community to greenlight.
It isn't just Aether. If Primal or Crystal or even Dynamis have no non-congested servers, nobody currently on NA can travel to those DCs. Dynamis is usually the most open. When I've looked to go to Crystal or Primal, they always have mostly congested servers, too. The only difference from Aether is there's usually some that aren't.
And it's not just about raiding. It's about people coming to join friends, or visit venues, or any other reason people would hop DCs for. If nobody would come over, then there would be no point of this thread. But since people would come over, it would add to the problems we already have on NA.
And I'm opposing your community greenlight because NA can't handle this right now and having players from EU would only make our current problems worse. They have to fix the issue they caused with these restrictions first so NA can travel freely among our DCs again.
This has nothing to do with PF. This is about DC travel in general on NA right now. It's hit or miss if I can do something as simple as visit a friend on another NA DC because it could be a time where there aren't any non-congested servers available.
There's no "issue", this is purely SE pretending that the game is booming with players while in fact... it isnt.

We havent been at such a low point since december 2023, where is the so called congestion ? Why is Balmung open for new character creation, while at the same time being congested for world visit and DC travel ? Those are both good questions to ask yourself and question if any of this "congestion" makes any sense at all.
Even the so called "aether is the raiding dc" has simply moved to primal, people will always congregate on the same servers and datacenters, this happens in every single MMO and FFXIV isnt exempt from that.
I'm not in the "steam charts never mean anything" camp but with XIV being active on its separate PC client and Playstation 4/5 for a long time it's hard to know for sure how much the metrics in 1 platform reflect the overall player activity of the game itself.
Xbox's userbase for example is very tiny compared to the rest, so its numbers wouldn't have meant anything. How does steam compare to the other two? It's hard to tell.
I do not think, that this will be a big problem for NA players. Because the time shift is very suboptimal for us EU players. The EU is +5 hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. So if you have 8:00 pm, for us it is already 1:00 am or 2:00 am. And at that time, most people are in bed. :)
Cheers
I have a somewhat serious solution:
If we look at the replies, its clear that the ones who are against it, are mostly doing so for reasons related to raiding.
If the raiding scene is what is holding back the whole thing, make it so that the hardest content you can do while having people in your party from a different region is Extreme trials (if even that).
Boom, done.
This way Savage and Ultimate Andies wont travel and cause drama with their strat differences and wont overload 1 specific place to cause congestion to fill their party finder faster.
Meanwhile other people who just want to play together across regions can do so while hanging out in the open world, or doing daily roulettes.
Lets be honest here for a second, we all know its not the second group of people who would have issues with "cultural differences".
That being said, while EU and NA for example can work flawlessly because 95% use english to communicate by default, JP is another story.
The language barrier between JP and basicly any other region is way too high to make it work realistically so it wouldn't be much use for it. And this is me saying it, someone who loves Japan.
Japan having language and cultural difference is no reason to block the other 70% of the player base in EU/NA/Oceania, just enable it for EU/NA/OCE. For me that just a prime example of SE proving they gatekeep the game for "western" players due to the JP community which people already believe a lot anyways.
Nah people also mentioned venues and stuff. Honestly if it happened so the only hardest content you can do is Extreme then that's also gonna piss off a lot (including me tbh) cause there're statics with a mix of people from NA or EU or friends in general too. I think especially raiding (esp ultimates) have a smaller scene compared to something like RP or what the general does like lettes. People issues is just congestion rather than strat overlap.
I think the fear that raiders would flock to Aether are way overblown. We have our own "raiding DC" in Light and I seriously doubt most EU raiders would want to raid on Aether just because it's Aether. Many of us can't raid on US servers to begin with because our ping would be insane, which isn't exactly condusive to doing content that requires fast reactions. As other people have pointed out, time zone differences are also a major limiter - eastern US is 6 hours behind me, western is 10. I have to get up at 4 am on Saturdays in order to play DnD with my American friends. I can't do that during the week in order to raid, I have to go to work. The FFXIV population seems to be quite old, everyone I know who plays has their hands full of some combination of work/family/university, our schedules can't just be upended.
*waves a huge green flag* ^w^
Why has this not happened yet?
It bemuses me so much that people still have to make alts to play with friends - the code is there - the people want it - SWITCH IT ON PLEASE
As an American player who plays almost exclusively on the EU side of things because that's where my friends are, I don't have any culture shock issues... much as I never did in fFXI... I will warn players though, that lag and feedback can be awful in end-game content when you are playing on such a far away data center. As long as you don't mind that, there isn't any issue, nor should there be cuurually, unless we all start losing our minds.
Yea feels really dated that regions are segregated; I get it's because of ping and all, but it's so easy to meet people globally now if you're online so you end up having friends in different parts of the world
As someone from EU who plays on US to hang out with friends. I would love that.
Personally i wana play with my friends who are on NA server, and we tried to both meet Oce DC but the problem there that its almost dead, its so hard to get q for anything, not to mention the lack of PF grps, i know there are a lot of ppl like who have friends in NA server and just wana play together, and for that i hope SE make it possible to do so.
I have an NA and EU character. I would greatly appreciate having DC travel. The lag isn't really an issue and would enjoy playing with my friends on both DCs. I really don't see any downsides to this being added. I don't think a culture of "Everyone goes to Aether to raid" is going to be picked up by EU players and vice versa. It'd save me a lot of time if I could just do the content on one character rather than having to do twice the amount of content.
As a legacy EU player who has been on an NA server since beta, I would love this change. I could move to EU data centres to visit friends and to queue for content so I do not have to live with 150-200 ping without having to permanently leave Excalibur and all my friends and my house.
I also have an EU and NA character to vibe with friends of either side, however it's a real pain to not have access to all emotes if you're not on your main and have to do the content twice... I just wanna be able to do that on my main without having to move to OCE which is dedge.
