I get them frequently whenever I play monk, as much as I do as a tank or healer, never really noticed a particular pattern.
I only Commend those that perform well.
Tanks : sprint, Mit, use resources.
Healers : dps and good Ogcd usage
DPS : actually use feint and I see good rotation.
Yes I judge you.
I don't know what you mean, I get more commendations when I run as MCH than with my tank. And I'm by no means a bad tank, I do my wall to wall pulls, mitigate, do my damage usually don't even need healing.
If anything I feel like people favour DPS commendations at least in EU.
When I'm dps I always give them to the other dps unless the tank or healer really does something to impress me. I have around 4000 commendations for almost exclusively playing dps and my rate of getting them actually went up after going hrothgar and having a portrait where my character is basically making a :D face.
I think the commendations are also due to perspective. I tend to be pretty good at throwing Heart of Corundum and Aurora on wounded allies and that usually nets me comms but because I focus so heavily on my healers performance they usually get my comm. I have no issue giving DPS coms and I do but I just notice what they're doing a lot less. When I used to heal back in ShB I would give a lot more dps comms because I was paying a lot more attention to their gameplay etc. Does this make any sense? Lol
we do get comms. maybe the issue is that you specifically don't get comms.
I'm honestly surprised to see that so many people don't give comms or only give them under certain circumstances.
I love giving comms because people like getting them, and it's an absolute delight to be able to do something nice for a stranger. Unless everyone in my party has been clocked as toxic — and I can count the number of times that's happened on one hand — someone is getting a comm!
...as long as everyone doesn't immediately leave. XD
I agree with this. It only takes a moment to brighten someone's day. It's just a small thing everyone can do to make the game just that much more of a nice experience for others.
Unless a party was extremely toxic, which is fortunately very rare for the casual content I do - I always find someone to comm if they all don't leave too fast.
If things take a long time to kill, dps are to blame, if things die fast, dps are good and deserve that commendation. After running hundreds of dungeons you start to notice dps, some fail using their skills, combos etc or just spam 1 button.
I will commend a DPS for using an AoE limit break on a wall to wall pull. However, I will also specifically not commend a person who tells me to Limit Break. I find it incredibly annoying. Otherwise I just commend whoever seemed the most engaged.
Most of the time people leave so fast that I just commend the leftovers, though.
As a main DPS, I can understand the grievance. At the same time, the the Tank and the Healer are basically the Quarterback and the Middle Linebacker of the party, so comms usually fall to them by default. As does the praise (or blame) for a good (or bad) run.
People do notice good deeps tho. I often comm a DPS that keeps up with me and doesn't do dumb [redacted], and Dancers that dance partner me.
Who I comm and don't comm is situational tho.
If I'm in a party where people are bickering back and fourth, nobody's getting it. I don't care if the run was flawless.
Im a DPS main and usually get at least 1 commendation about 75% of the time in all content I run. Im not doing anything special to my knowledge.
I get a LOT of coms and I pretty much exclusively play DPS. I only tank when I play with friends, and I've never healed a dungeon or raid (just things like fate farm parties).. And I wouldn't say I'm a... good player? I watch my rotation and make sure I'm doing it properly for the most part, and I try not to die. Granted despite not using parsing tools myself, I've looked at what others have parsed me for, and my numbers seem to above the average casual player so... maybe people think I'm good when it comes to story content dungeons and normal raids? I have no idea honestly. It just hasn't been hard. I get them in PvP all the time too even though I don't have massive kill counts or anything.
Maybe the bunboy factor helps even though I picked the resting b***h face one LOL
I main Bard and get comms all the time. Just play well and you'll get em
It depends on what job you play too, supportive DPS like BRD and DNC get comms more often than other dps like Viper or Pictomancer, Red Mages also usually get comm'd if they rez people.
I've started playing PCT recently and it's kinda eerie how little I get commended now, probably because people are sick of seeing the job and pass their comm to a different DPS if by some miracle it doesn't go to a tank or healer
I always give mine to dps unless they did awful in the duty. Not sure what point of getting coms if you already have all the achievements.
As a DPS main, I'm sitting on a cool 8830ish comms. I just kinda chill, slap my silly buttons, and do whatever I can do to be greedy/make everything take less time. I have stuff to craft. When I play heals/Tank, the comms don't matter to me since those roles just get them for existing most of the time. There's a satisfaction you get when you get 3+ comms as a selfish dps, not so much when I'm eating a burrito and pressing a heal/mit.
I only comm other DPS if I even bother sticking around to comm. Tanks and healers only get em if I notice they're really good, and if they KEEP THE THING STILL AND LET ME GET MY POSITIONALS/stay in the ground aoes other jobs slap down.
I only comm DRGs.
Comms for me are irrelevant but I get a pinch of the sadness when my fellow DPS doesn't comm me back. Especially if we get through the dungeon super fast and both play really well. Like "hey man, you and me? We cleared that shit. Go team!"
Then you leave the dungeon and find out they didn't think you good enough for a commendation. Breaks my heart, I thought we HAD something together!
I don't comm the tank or heals unless they were spectacular or rezzed me. Otherwise I pump all my comms into one of the dps to try and offset the ridiculous imbalance that normally happens.
Generally I comm people who go above and beyond.
For DPS, those who use peleton automatically get a comm. Other things like feint I also notice. Or the occasional range that will make sure to move and give melee a safe spot, etc.
Tanks who alternate throughout their toolkit for big pulls (ie. Arms length, reprisal, etc) to make the ride smoother.
Healers who work hard, forced to GCD heal because someone isn't doing their job, have to rez people, etc.
Automatically you don't get one if you're just not using your toolkit, or you're one of those people who run in narnia to get hit by mechanics because someone overlapped your AoE circle by the smallest degree. Double negative points if you're a melee and you do that. If you're standing around and pressing 123 in front of a boss as a melee, I assume you're being lazy with positionals (I know enough class animations to know if this happens). If you're collecting vulns, you're not getting a comm. There's a difference in making a mistake occasionally, and just standing there in the middle of a circle that's been there for 4 seconds.
I'm still amazed by the amount of people who play ranged dps for their mains and NEVER peleton...... *shakes head*
If im a healer I will commend the tank if they do large pulls, hold aggro, use tank cd's well. If im a tank I commend healer if they keep me alive while I do large pulls. If im DPS I will usually commend the other DPS unless they seem to have less aggro than the healer.
I wouldn't use aggro as an indicator of damage when bringing healers into the equation. It's super easy to get high in the aggro table by being a curebot and overhealing like a madman. This could make it look like your DPS are slacking, even if it's that your healer only knows where the medica 2 button is
These days I tend to award comms based on a combo of the player NOT being garbage & whoever has the nicest profile plate image. DMV photo gets you NOTHING.
Levelling up my MCH from level 30 (77 now) and I feel nearly invisible for Comms. The only ones I get I think are for my plate since I got a comm after a girl said "Oooh cowboy!" about my glam lol. Turning from a fully clothed MCH glam to a shirtless cowboy hat helped I guess.
I use my run speed. I group mit during bosses and big pulls. I'll use my other mit on tankbusters or big group damages. I limit break if the melee dps seems to have forgotten about it, or on a big trash pull.
Not much else I can do.
Lol i just dont com at all to be fair XD i only ever com if i feel like it.
If the DPS don't addle or feint, they're not gonna get a comm from me.
Some jobs definitely get more comms than others.
A semi competent melee will often get comms for big damage.
A black mage who aces mechanics and puts out good numbers will often get comms from people who understand how much of a pain in the ass that is.
A dancer will often get a comm at least from their dance partner.
A red mage will never get comms no matter how many people they scrape off the floor.
The blessed Addle. Wonderful and woefully underused.
...Those poor RDPS.
