Why should any of us root for Wuk Lamat?

Think of it from a national security perspective. Wuk Lamat has stated that one of her rivals intends to take advantage of the Garlean Empire's fall, and exploit the situation and conquer Eorzea. Thus, it would be in the best interest of the Eorzean nations to ensure that said rival does not take the throne, thereby avoiding a costly and destructive war.

If you're going to attack someone for not reading, maybe try doing a bit yourself? This is very obviously being set up as an adventure for the WoL. The final quote from Emet-Selch should have made that painfully obvious.

Yeah, it's being framed as an adventure for us but we're inevitably going to be taking an obvious side in the succession rite regardless so it feels silly for them to act like we'll actually have any agency there.

I suppose the most I could hope for being able to at least attempt to take sides with Koana or Zoraal but having them make up excuses for us not to.

I actually suspect team Wuk Lamat will fail, but she will be integral to defeating the real big bad, and prove she doesn't need to be the Dawn Servant to protect her people.

Before you throw stones, you may want to take a better look at the post cause I think you may be missing the point of their reply. Esp since you quoted it out of order and omitted the reason for it. Then pulled that Emet quote out of the air when it didn't pertain to that interaction in any way. This is either really really low effort bait or you really misread that whole interaction.

It was literally, "OP hasnt heard of character growth!" and they replied with "you need to read better" and then provided the OP quote talking about potential character growth. It has nothing to do with even the subject of the post, just pointing out that player didn't read or misread the OP

She said she only stepped up to defeat the other two contenders who may be up to no good.
That's good enough motivation.

She said there's one contestant in particular who can't be allowed to win...and they've made it painfully obvious that it's Bakool considering his bio is basically "He's a terrible person".

Funnily, he's also the only one of the lot who's not on the DT artwork so I fully expect he's getting the axe sooner then later.

I feel the succession issue will end up taking a backseat to dealing with the technologically advanced civilization seen in the trailer anyway, and it'll be an 'everyone has to work together to defeat this' scenario.

Install Wuk Lamat as a weak Ruler for Tural so the WoL can conquer it that much easier.

Wuk Lamat explicitly said that the other successor wants to pursue conquest, and typically, we don't want that.

As for why we're backing a "childish teenager" it's likely they all are of similar such disposition. We've already seen bits and pieces of this.

As for getting involved in their politics in the first place- we're adventurers, mercenaries, and explorers. AKA, blades for hire. It's why Urianger and Thancred are backing the other side. We aren't coming in and imposing our own will on the politics of this region, we are guests in it while carrying out our client's orders, while occasionally indulging in some manner of hero escapades as the story progresses.

A lot of the questions you're asking were answered in the 6.5 Pt. 2 patch or elsewhere.

I don’t think people are having problems with the WOL’s justifications to visit tural it’s more the problem associated with the fact that once we reach tural we will likely have no agency in regards to what actually happens in the succession crisis. For example it wuk lamat remains in the running it’s exceedingly likely we will just stick to wuk lamat. If she drops early and say throws in behind koana we willl likely be pigeonholed into also supporting koana

They have basically stuck us like glue to the least likable of the 3 “good” candidates and knowing the history of 14’s storytelling it’s not like they are going to give us an option to go to tural and then say “hey old wukky I actually like Koana more so imma support him” we are just gonna follow whoever wuk supports including herself

The point here is we’ve never been presented a “choice” like this before where from the pure it doesn’t look like a lot of people want to support. In a way I feel like they have set this up in the wrong way. I shouldn’t be wanting to go into DT wanting to support Koana but that’s what’s currently happening

Exactly. We should be given a choice. What if we don’t agree with her? Alot of people on this forum complained about being forced to be other characters for msq. Wheres that energy when being forced into a choice your character wouldnt agree with?

This is 100% what I'm expecting to happen. Be it with all 3 of the non-racists or just Wuk and her Miqo'te brother symbolically taking over for the two heads and personalities of the current leader.

This reminds me of the whole Steppe plot in SB. We go in there, and take advantage of the sacred traditions of the Xaela in order to rope them into a war they don't really have a personal stake in. But nobody ever questions the morality of what we're doing. Not even in a 'this is sketchy but they like to fight and we need allies to stop the Empire so ends justify the means' sort of way. Same with the pirate mafia who shake people down for 'protection money' and are basically bandits and thugs but they're opposed to the empire so let's just not acknowledge how sketchy helping them actually is.

Here at least, it's explicitly stated that it's normal and encouraged for the candidates to seek out outside help. So it's less 'we're going in there to use this event for our own gain' and more 'one of the candidates is inviting us to take part, in a contest where seeking outside help and building outside relations is explicitly condoned and encouraged.' With a side of 'one of the other candidates is going to start a war if he wins' as another reason to go.

As for how I feel about backing Wuk specifically, I'll have to see in 6.0 as we're introduced to the other candidates.

It would be interesting if wuk's exceedingly cheerful and positive personality was also a mask because she needed to sell you on the whole thing. At the very least I expect her to be like Gosetsu where she display a forced confident façade because she knows it helps inspire confidence in others regardless of her own anxiety (and perhaps because she believe this is a quality she needs to demonstrate as a leader).
It would just seem out of place for her to be nothing more than meets the eye after they managed to create interesting characters in the past.

i support her becuse she only true furry out of the 4, we got mr nerd boy who was to afraid to go full furry 2 lizard boys who will basicly turn it into china which is bad


so honestly she is the best person to run the area a location should be ran by emotions not logic and all that other stuff

Strong agree with this. I feel that the void storyline, for the 'narrative reward' it had, took longer than needed. The Aetherfont was really unecessary as a dungeon and they could've moved the Lunar Subterrane to that patch. Make Golbez the dungeon boss and Zeromus the trial.

Also it would be much more credible if Wuk Lamat actually hired the WoL's services - she is royalty after all. Could've added all the frills she did 'we also have adventure, a new place to explore, and this really big paycheck!'. Could be fun if Tataru was involved just to try to convince the WoL that the deal was really good.

The idea is that the WOL is in it for the adventure. To explore new lands and see new things. Being bribed by a big pile of gold IMO would only hurt the narrative going into DT.

I'm so torn on Wuk personally, so far she seems like a cartoon character, borderline shonen protagonist who wants to be the hokage of the pirates or whatever they say in dragon ball.

If thats all she is then damn I hope she doesnt get a lot of screen time

I mean, as a cat owner I think it's pretty realistic a giant cat would be able to convince me to help her. I can't even move my cats out of my chair because I'll feel bad for disturbing them, you think I'd say no if they asked me to help them rule a country or whatever. You know how many blankets I've bought just because I know they'd be soft and my cats would want to sit on them?!

FFXIV writers love that "show a naive character what it takes to be a real hero" shtick.

Wish they make it so have a choose if support them or not. I played once another MMORPG that had branch story to it, where they let you choose if support the one or not. Why don't they for once have it where WOL gets the support to be a ruler of some place. I can't support a weakling.

This just isn't that type of game. They're telling a story and want that story to be consistent between players. I tend to find big, story impacting changes fit better into single player games anyway, as opposed to MMOs where those choices ultimately aren't able to matter all that much because they'd have to account for all possibilities going forward, in a game where everyone would be making different choices.

This ultimately isn't a choice driven game like your Mass Effects or Dragon Ages. SWTOR allows you to make changes I know, but then by extension those changes can't matter all that much to the wider story being told because it has to march forward regardless of the choices you and all the other players made.

I mean, just because Y'shtola is THE fanservice character doesn't mean others can't have their moments. It would have made no sense Y'shtola to be given the relevance in an Ala Mhigan story arc when there's an actual Ala Mhigan in the team, so Lyse was shoehorned front and center of the expansion.

Lyse wasn't fan service in any form, because up until just before SB we all thought she was Yda. The same Yda that we journeyed with in 1.0 and was unceremoniously killed off camera, which was really upsetting for us Legacy players. The moment she took her mask off Lyse was basically a new character similar to Wuk and all new characters are either killed off or ignored later. Her being a scion gave her just enough plot armor to not go the Ysayle route of being written out of the story and instead just let her go do her thing. Let's just hope Wuk is written better. But if we go by what we have already seen, there is little hope for that.

DT definitely is off to a rough start since EW really hasn't done anything to make us care about Wuk Lamat or the storyline. If you vibed with her in the final half patch, then you may want to help her just cause. If you found her annoying like me...it's hard to want to? The void really needed to be its own expansion. Or...*something*. There's nothing wrong with the void story or EW main but it feels like the Return of the King theatrical version where they had to cram in too much stuff, cut and truncate some things too much, and while it was a good experience you feel it was missing something.
