Just waiting on SE.
i wasnt gonna give feedback on this but i cant resist.
NO!
Hellz no!
No no noooo nOooOooo!!
well... just remember what i said, i will say no lol
I hope weddings return, even though I never had one or even attended to one in FF11. I'm sure they are pretty nice events that make some parts of the community stronger.
I did however get me an opaline dress. Those look wonderful. I hope we get some really pretty gear options in FF14 as well.
Id be carefull with weddings, Half of the cat population are dudes
That's cool. Who would want to marry a girl anyway?
I never said I didn't like it or it was/would be a waste of time. I was saying in light of everything else and it being a player driven game people should initiate and make the weddings happen themselves. Hell I am sure if they see the forums lighting up by user inspired created content they would be a lot more likely to give in and make it official.
I mentioned several ideas and thoughts about it also I mainly said right now I don't think the community is fitting, though again most of you agree you would just like to see it added sometime in the future. Until then lets show them some inspirational ideas by hosting player based weddings with pictures and post them on the forums. Though honestly as I said before as well I don't think currently the community is up to it, maybe after 2.0 release and player housing comes out and plenty of content to keep everyone happy is when they should worry about the social fun aspects. Though you mentioned Chocobo raising for a point, that is actually not a social aspect of the game but for entertainment plus it has actual beneficial results because of the buddy system. Plus it was their idea to implement it and has already been worked on so it is in no way related to the points I was making.
they shouldn't add ingame marriage at all. Why can't you just role-play it? Gather some witnesses, have someone say all the holy stuff, kiss eachother etc?
It's not about discrimination, it's about most other parts of the world aren't as accepting of this as North America is. SE doesn't hate GLBTs, but politically it would be a bad more to allow it. However, I agree with your statement because I don't want to see the "LET US SAME SEX MARRY NOW SE" threads that will ensue if they do it.Quote:
I only want to see it in game if same sex marriages are allowed. No need for discrimination.
I think it's better to roleplay a wedding anyway. Why does it have to be an official mechanic within the game? If you roleplay it, there are no rules, you can do it however you want.
Since this is a final fantasy game, could we have wedding dresses like:
Ashe from FF12: lol it was drawn by the same artist that currently does XIV.

and Garnet from FF9

SE designs such nice wedding dresses...:)
So, Babydoll, how many proposals have you gotten:)
Maybe I would say that they are just average, and that there are countries both better at it and worse at it. When I think gay acceptance, I'm more likely to think Sweden or the Netherlands than the US. Although there are a few states it is legal in, those are in the minority. Canada allows it too, of course. I guess I should have specified the US instead of just all of NA.
Anyway, my point isn't which countries are better another country, but that gay acceptance is most certainly not something that is more widespread in North America compared to Europe. Maybe it's just because of certain really loud Christian groups in the US, but I seem to hear a lot more anti-gay propaganda coming from the US than from anywhere in Europe.
Not to mention that we just have a more laid back stance on sexuality in general, which includes homosexuality.
Just to support this, according to Wikipedia Holland was the first country to legalize gay marriage followed by Belgium. All of Scandinavia has also legalized it so I would say Northern Europe is ahead of the curve on this. You just don't hear much about it because in our part of the world this is not the least bit controversial unlike say the US.
These would be a nice addition to FFXIV. I remember going to a few of these for friends, and myself being in my own. Lots of fun and memories in these. Personally I think they should go ahead and allow same sex marriage in game, to support everyone's individual requests. After all would be in their best interest to see all their players happy. Doing so ensures this for everyone, where as keeping it from happening only upsets the many different personalities we have in the game. So I support and agree one-hundred percent! I never fully understand how people fail to understand that not everyone will be like them, nor think like them. Everyone should accept everyone's different views and understandings ^^;
Yeah. I would say that generally, those who don't like it around here still don't hate it enough to make a big deal about it.
I'm from Norway myself, and even if we haven't been the first to legalize all these things, being openly gay in the military has been allowed since the 70s, and it's not political suicide if you admit to being gay either.
Homophobes around here are generally either teenagers who will most likely grow out of it when they become adults, really old people, or inbred country bumpkins (we're in no shortage of country bumpkins, though!).
I agree. My fav:

Same fantasy twist-love for male outfits please?
Yeah, formal suits are nice and all, but it would be cool to see something fabulous too.
Oh my, that is an absolutely gorgeous dress. I would love to have that dress in-game (in real life wouldn't be so bad either).
Anyway, more on topic. I agree that a marriage system should be implemented, and I love quite a few of the ideas in this thread (different cities to host the wedding, decorations, invites, no racial or gender discrimination, etc.). I think it would be so fun to attend the wedding of a good friend, just have so much fun with it. The only thing I would say no to is sharing gil and items (even house sharing is pushing it a-bit), since it would be far too easy for someone to be cheated out of everything they had by some low-life. Yes, there are ways that it could be prevented, but it would be so much easier just to not have it in the first place. Again, I agree that this isn't top priority but would be nice to have.
But shared housing would be the best part about marriage :<
Really, if all the items stored in the house weren't shared, it's limited how much damage someone could do. One of them would have to actually gift the other player the item, which there is no way to prevent people from doing even without marriages.
Agreed. Even France is now going along with the idea of allowing same-sex marriage, when it was hardly possible even to imagine only six months ago. Everything changes so fast in real life, so why not in FFXIV? Square Enix isn't Bioware, but well, Japanese seem quite tolerant to me, assuming those I've met are representative of the whole people. ♪
In ragnarok online both get a ring to summon the partner.
I think the skill name was something like "Darling, I miss you" (Don't work in dungeons, PvP arena and siege castles)
edit: we need more Ashe wedding pictures ^^

I told you this marriage request would lead into the typical fights about same sex marriages... we just can't have a simple discussion without bringing in political/Trivial real life matters into games can we?
One more here for the marriage vote as long as they allow same sex couples as well!
I for one would make use of it.
Name something cultural that hasn't become political recently...
Since the 1970s, politics has increasingly become the battle ground for what are actually wars over culture -- at least in the US.
If you are a company who desperately needs general appeal for your product, the last thing you will want to do is to to fling themselves middle of a hot-button issue - especially when you don't have to.
Stay away from marriage completely (as an official part of the game) -- Trust me, SE will lose either way if they add it.
Anyone who says otherwise is pushing an agenda.
I must agree with Rannie, there hasn't really been any fighting, simply people stating that they think there should be no discrimination on the matter. We have all managed not to get into an internet-screaming fight over this matter (shocking isn't it...) and to simply state our own opinion.
@Mirage Actually that sounds like a good idea. I'm not 100% against shared housing, I simply saw that perhaps annoying problems might arise from it, though I do like your idea on the matter.
@zantetsuken
Well in that case, have them add an "instance" where people could have a fancy-looking environment, add gear that looks classy and rings that look pretty, and let people share houses (for whatever reason they want, that is), but don't actually implement "marriage". The various communities in the game could arrange their own events of whatever they want in these instances, and call it whatever they want. If they want to call it marriage, a marriage it is! SE could just stay out of what people actually use it for and not officially sanction any sort of marriages.
You could pay for using something like what would be like a nice area in the "city hall" of either of the cities, and this area would be usable for anything, not just partnership ceremonies, but also other community driven events. Each group would get their own instance as needed, so there wouldn't be any queues.
That way, people who don't want to recognize same-sex weddings are free to not recognize it, and SE wouldn't be pushing it on them because they don't officially sanction weddings (or other ceremonies) of any type.
Surely, this must be a solution both for and againsters could accept?
Yeah, I think so. And I have more ideas too!
SE could add various areas reminiscent of certain very pretty areas from past games. What about a community event "map" that was like the endless flower field from Final Fantasy 8? If i were to hold a community partnership event, I would love to hold one there.
That does of course not have to be the only area available. Lots of areas could be added. They should perhaps not directly reference the other games, but be clearly inspired by them.
We could have buildings in the various cities that could be called "Cityname Community House", and upon renting an area there, you could pay lalafell mages to conjure up these fancy looking environments in there. What if you could book a FF5-like pirate's cave in Limsa Lominsa? The flower field could be available in gridania, and i've run out of ideas for other areas now but I'm sure you guys or SE could come up with several more areas for each city.
lol @ a simple game request turning into a complete fiasco.
nah crisis averted we're all civil here and are trying to respect the other people's ideas and thoughts...
@Mirage, I also heard the area in FFXI Lufase (sp) meadows was also a beautiful area. Sadly I never got to see it because I quit before I could finish all of the prereqs but something like that may be an option or even something grand like i know there's more areas that are beautiful I just can't think of them off the top of my head lol my mind's numb and I keep getting called for breakfast.
lol the agenda finger-pointing certainly gave me a chuckle
Mirage your idea is interesting... but what if folks want to have theirweddingnon-specified gathering at some spot they think is really beautiful out in .. maybe Coerthas or something?
I wonder how difficult it would be to instance certain map coordinates at a specified time.
