It isn't even clear what a non-vessel Shiva would look like, is it?
Saying that, I don't think its an impossible ask - I mean, our character can turn into a Phoenix 'mount' - could that be applied to battle instances?

I'm a satisfied customer with no current plans to unsub. What will make me unsub some day is running out of things I want to do and people I want to do them with. That's about it.
This is not my first rodeo. I know I'll get tired of FF eventually. I played WoW for 5 years, long ago; GW2 for 6; Lotro for 10. I didn't leave any of them as a "bitter vet". I just got bored and moved on.
All new Final Fantasy MMORPG for pc. I played FFXI for 5 years from when first could start playing it, I played Aion for about 4 years till cheating got so bad on it and played FFXIV since beta to it.
The only 3 times I've unsubbed was due to tight money, but there's no other reason why would I want to stop playing FFXIV. The game has its flaws, like any other game, but it's still better than what I've played over the years. If I feel like I'm bored out of my mind, I'll probably take few days off to play something else, and return with a refreshed mind.
There are three possible reasons why I'd unsub to FF XIV:
1. I feel like I've run out of stuff I want to do (not happening any time soon).
2. The game goes offline (really up to SE but doesn't seem likely soon).
3. I go offline (suppose it's inevitable but hopefully not for a while yet).
Gunbreaker gets "Simplified".
If they turn it into another 2 minute burst spec with a busy burst and 9000 years of downtime where I do nothing but spam 123 while slowly going insane I WILL Riot.
...Also don't you dare take my healing/utility away. It's one of the few times I get to actively feel like I'm helping.
True, and there shouldn't BE a non-vessel Shiva, not because there technically couldn't be, but for the same reason why we needed a vessel for her on the First - because Shiva in FFXIV = vessel. It's an opportunity for XIV the be unique and if that is discarded then I believe it's because it was either forgotten, aka they stopped caring or it was forgotten how meaningful it is, aka they stopped caring.
Also, imagine how flaccid Eden's excuse would feel if you play it as a Summoner who learned to autonomously summon Shiva on their own.
Shiva has always been summoned in battle instances so yeah, 100%. More than just not an impossible ask I think it's neccessary for her to function like that.Quote:

The Phoenix "transformation" is a dumb meta reward for an event and let's be real - it's not a transformation, it's just a shitty moneysaver mount they didn't need to put in the work with to have the WoL actually sit on it. A transformation mount wouldn't have the classic horn blow to summon it, but instead a transformation sequence which they didn't add. Cause it would have cost them. So at the end of the day it's an unusable mount for people who like mounts and people who like transformations both, cause they didn't care putting in the work. They should have never released it in my opinion.
I will unsub when the game dies (shut down) or when I die. Let's see which one happens sooner, lol.
How they handle the native American-themed content in Dawntrail tbh, if it feels gross like they haven't learned anything even after the community pointed out various issues (Hello BLU mage questline, some tribes and New World outfit set) that would break my patience for the game's setting. They've been told their problems and they need to learn from them.
Decouple housing (and by extension, gardening) from subscriptions.
The only time i unsubbed was when i ran out of playtime days. Other than that, im not unsubbing anytime soon til my next playtime days runs out.
I'll unsub when I buy SE... >.>
Simple, ill unsub for a better MMO, which for me anyway still hasnt or looks to be happening anytime soon. Will see what Riot cooks up in the distant future but really nothing potential on my radar with MMOs.
Personally? If Dawntrail is as bad as Endwalker has been.
The new graphics update is nice and I appreciate it, but I think the novelty will wear off very quickly. If that's genuinely the only big new thing we get, then I don't see myself sticking around.
Good point, I was wrong about this.
Still if they wanted to make us transform into a Phoenix they should have included a transformation animation, which they chose not to create because it would have cost them. To then forgo the option of just including the player models again and make it an actual mount shows bad judgement, as they thought the transformation without transforming was somehow cool. Terrible sense of aesthetics.
Mandatory overworld PvP
Switching to action-oriented combat from tab targeted
Mandatory weekly grinds to access raids/trials
If the combat is just ShB V3.0, and maybe another decent MMORPG hitting the market.
I've already been picking up older MMOs to change things up since FFXIV's combat design is awful.
Continuation of the 2-minute meta will be the downfall of this game.
Considering only about 30% of the player base gets into content where the 2 minute meta matters, and the majority of JP players evidently prefer it, I don't think it will be the downfall of the game. The game would end up much less popular among the raiding crowd in NA and EU but others would still play.
I am a solo player and a casual to boot. I still have a very long list of things I want to do in the game. 4 years and still haven't made it into the current expansion. I am in no hurry. I enjoy the fact that I can go on a detour project for weeks or months at a time before going back to work on MSQ.
Given all that I don't see myself leaving the game any time soon. What would drive me out? When it stops being fun for me. That simple.
If healer gameplay gets dumped down even more I would most likely leave. Pressing 1 button 100x of times during every content is just not interesting.
The reason why the two minute meta matters outside of the content where it's required to adhere to is because it's through the lense of those same similarly-playing jobs that we HAVE to experience the game.
Even the limited BLU job is becoming further limited with arbitrary restrictions on WHICH old battle content it can enter, let alone be rewarded for doing.
Losing my primary job and having every plotline I was interested in wrapped up in the most unsatisfying way possible. So ... basically now. January is make or break for me, sadly. I've been a huge Final Fantasy fan since around 89 and I've enjoyed my time in XIV up til Endwalker but said expansion destroyed most of my love for the game.
Another Endwalker.
Well said. I'm basically the same. As long as I'm having fun then that's the main thing.
Although I have to also add that if SE made PvP open world with no restrictions and the game's focus... then yeah, I might have to reevaluate my commitment to the game. But I'm pretty confident that will never happen (based on Yoshi's past comments on the subject).
On second thought, it might depend on what mechanic they try to shoehorn into the game in Dawntrail.
I think everyone just collectively forgets about the "stealth" mechanic they tried to force into EW because it was so bad. Ex: If they add something that's as frustrating and badly implemented as Fall Guys platforming to the MSQ that might be a deal breaker for me too.
Yeaaaa, that was the worst part. It might sound silly, but my character was tied to that job, it was part of his identity so that was part of my tether to the game. I tried very hard to like or enjoy nu summoner but I just couldn't. I finished off the main scenario and did something I hadn't done in years: I unsubbed. For a substantial length of time. I only really came back because my nephew asked me to play with him.
To be clear, I don't want nu summoner removed, I don't want other people to have to deal with that. I just wish they'd made it it's own unique job and left mine alone.
Lobotomizing DRG would seriously make me consider moving on, my reasons for quitting every MMO in the past have always been ignited by my favorite job being destroyed, tick tock.
It would take a RL situation that forces me to cut back on expenses. Even then, this would have to be pretty significant because the monthly sub fee is a very minor expense in comparison to other things that cost more that I am willing to cut out.
When I quit FFXI, I knew I was done. I unsubbed and resubbed several times, but eventually arrived at the conclusion that my time in Vanadiel was over. There wasn't anything I felt like doing, all my friends had left, and I had no attachment to my character. The last two are the quintessential tell tale signs that it's over. Right now, the very thought of leaving FFXIV behind is heartbreaking, so no chance of unsubbing anytime soon.
When there is no jobs/class left - that I enjoy playing,
I currently only like 3 jobs, so the list is already short..
I have to wonder what the hell game one thinks they're playing if they think there's ANY chance at no holds barred open world PvP. Like, it just suggest a lack of understanding about the game on a few fundamental levels.
For me, the mechanic I loved to mock that they introduced was escort quests.
Finally! Technology that existed and was hated long before 2004 and original WoW makes it into the modern age to slow you down as your NPCs get out of range and need to be babysat. They fixed some stuff about it but man, it's really just about people that want to take pictures of their characters with NPCs nowadays, isn't it? I'm not sure how the story was ever improved thanks to escort quests functionality that they couldn't just do with the old ' NPC chills at the next quest point of interest'.
Simple: another MMO that is better FFXIV.
Every times I hear someone talk about "FF14 is dying and we should jump ship when we can" I feel I don't even need to defend the game. Just simply point out: sure, show me a better ship then I'll jump. Tbh, as much as I like FF14, it has been about 10 years. Even if the Dev didn't mishap, I would be lying if I say I don't feel the game is getting old. The biggest issue isn't with FF14 itself, it's with the market. As often as anyone can point out singular shortcoming of this game, the fact is it's still the most polished package available on the market without any other MMO remotely come close. As trust me I tried, I have toured most of the MMO released in the past 15+ years, and I find no other MMO that has a balance of gameplay/story/aehthestic/QoL like FF14 do.
Again, if someone can show me a better ship, I'll gladly make the jump off this old ship. But there is no point to make a jump when all the alternative are inferior, or jump into the ocean (just quit MMO altogether).
My list:
- goes the way WoW did
- making everything locked behind group content
- introduces an competitive M+ like system
- adds even more buttons to our bars
- forsakes the RPG/solo element of the game
The above would kill it for me.
Finding a better MMO.
Another Endwalker post patch Story/Expansion
Personally did not care for Zero's story. Gaius was the only redemption of it. Couldn't wait for it to be finished.
As far as Content outside of the 2 ultimate fights, we got Island Sanctuary and Criterion dungeons on top of one of the worst if not the most unappealing raid tiers as far as Glamour and rewards go. More reused assets from older expansions (You thought you could re use the Shadowbringer crafted set for a endwalker dungeon gear set SE nice try) If I didn't have a small house/ help friends with ultimate raids I would of unsubbed for a few months. If classes don't feel great in DT then my drive to keep playing will diminish.
